5:04 is the fundamental idea of cognitive behavioral therapy and IMO is one of the most powerful idea in human thought. And I agree, it is not about positive illusion, it's about non judgment and not feeding the machine of beating yourself up constantly.

Well....sounds like your first question oughta be "HOW do you get something?"
But maybe asking "HOW do we KEEP what we got" may be important too. No worries though, im 32 and i aint got shit but a horrible cussing habit 🤣

"The tragedy of a species becoming unfit for life by over-evolving one ability is not confined to humankind. Thus it is thought, for instance, that certain deer in paleontological times succumbed as they acquired overly-heavy horns. The mutations must be considered blind, they work, are thrown forth, without any contact of interest with their environment. In depressive states, the mind may be seen in the image of such an antler, in all its fantastic splendour pinning its bearer to the ground." - Peter Wessel Zapffe

Has Peterson ever read or discussed "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race" by Thomas Ligotti? And by "discussed", I mean discussed among serious adults without bringing up manipulative scenarios about a child in pain?
I appreciate what he says about betrayal being so destructive to people and to society in general. It destroys trust, and trust is priceless for a well-functioning community.

So my problem isn't the fact that I'm suffering from clinical depression, it's the fact that I'm surviving in SSI due to mental illness, I don't have friends, I've lost all interest in my hobbies, life has lost all meaning and I don't have the affection of a significant other. My life is just empty.

@@Tyler_W You'd be surprised. I agree with you, however there are many people who actually lost people (a parent, a friend...) and they still think like that. "It's part of life", "it's natural", "it's the way it is". I cannot fathom how they can think like that. But lucky for them. I'm 35 and, in my case, I had the first existential crisis and started to feel death anxiety at 19. That was before I even lost someone (my dad, when I was 26). You don't really have to lost someone to start being aware of your mortality and thinking about death.

Normalcy is the understanding you are being naturally dealt with fairly like anyone else. You are exposed to consequences or rewards by your own actions, just like the next person. Government's foolish programs of racial preference like Affirmative Action is very depressing. Affirmative Action should be abolished.

Yet another video showcasing that Peterson has no idea what he's talking about. Nietzsche himself said that the self is a fiction, not a falsehood. In the same way Pragmatism sees truth as being operational and true based on its positive outcomes. Stop watching this video and pick up The Genealogy of Morals
