The scene with Killua running away from Netero's aura was a flashback to a much earlier episode (I think ep.99). Meruem and Neteros' fight was miles and miles away from the palace, in a completely deserted wilderness, DBZ-style.

@@godofthisshit The intense aura was generated during Netero's extended mediation session on top of a giant rock formation, some time before the palace invasion. It was during the time that Killua was running around warning the townspeople to not trust the government's propaganda. Pretty sure it was episode 99.

@Chair of Truth depends on how long ago they watched it. Plus, they aren't binge watching the way most of us do, or have seen it multiple times. Imagine watching a couple of episodes every three weeks, on top of ten different new anime you are also watching, while still having a life, working, etc. I don't expect them to be spot on in every reaction anymore, and they read the comments to learn what they missed

I don't think the meaning of Netero's words are meant to be taken one way or another, the double meaning of being able to be translated as malice or evolution is very intentional, and wordplay like that is pretty common in anime. While nukes are designed with malicious intent, they do not arise out of a vacuum they would not exist without decades of scientific research and technological development that made the bombs possible in the first place. Richard Feynman who helped develop the first atomic bombs said “To every man is given the key to the gates of heaven. The same key opens the gates of hell.
And so it is with science.", basically saying every discovery or innovation, anything that gives you the power to do something gives you equal access to causing suffering or causing salvation.
Another extremely common theme in anime (especially shonen) is taming the "beast inside" and using it for good; like Naruto's fox, or Ichigo's hollow. Notice how it's not about banishing the evil inside you, but subduing it, and using it. It's the archetypal story of growing up and becoming a balanced person, neither too kind, nor too cruel. I feel like Netero's last words were equal parts praise and condemnation. Humans have an unimaginably cruel side, but if we didn't, we wouldn't be on top of the food chain, and wouldn't have the luxury of showing kindness.

The japanese he spoke doesnt have double meaning, however in the manga both words were written. netero says malice but implies it drives humanity's evolution. Here in the anime he simply says evolution.

Where the bomb was activated, where the palace is, and where Killua felt Netero's Nen charge up are all different locations... it was the Hunters plan to bring the King to that tomb and Killua felt his power building way before the mission started

The moment Gon threatened to kill Komugi if he was made to wait any longer was the moment you know Gon doesn't care about anything in the world besides avenging Kite at that point.
And even then it's probably more about satisfying his own anger than avenging Kite.
Threatening an innocent life, even one affiliated with "the enemy" is something Gon would never have done before this arc.
Hell, in just the last arc Gon & friends all decided to forgive and not kill Genthru The Bomber, even though he killed tons of innocent people.
But when Gon has someone he personally cares bout affected, it's entirely different to him.

nnightkingj Depends on how you teach/parent them. There are some 5 year olds who are able to properly care for others and differentiate right vs wrong, prioritizing others over their own greeds and wants. Gon is just on another level. Probably due to parenting.

Gon is able to do that as well under the right state of mind but a 5 year old can easily be manipulated into thinking right is wrong and vice versa they don't have the deductive reasoning or brain development possible for complex thinking even some people who are grown lack this no amount of raising a child can help that especially for a kid with super powers whose never experienced grief like that before he's probably never even met a bad person where he lived to understand the difference

The Evolution/Malice thing is a fun-with-words in the manga's text, it has nothing to do with the translation.
As far as the anime is concern, it can only be translated evolution.

I'm not denying the malice, I'm just saying that linguistically in japanese evoluion (進化/shinka) and malice (悪意/akui) aren't related to one another and do not share the same pronunciation/phonetics/alternate reading.
In the manga the author had malice to be read/pronounce as evolution via furigana, so the anime vocally said evolution/shinka and that's what they put in the subtitles since they lost that context in the anime.
The dubbers were probably aware the context of the manga and decided to go with malice.

I honestly think it was a wise decision by Netero to not sit and converse with Meruem because at the end of the day there is really nothing meaningful to talk about. No matter what, the king is going to fight for ant superiority of the earth and Netero is going to fight for human superiority of the earth. There's no right or wrong between either side, it's just nature. And personally, as a human, i'd rather nuclear bombs do exist, with all of it's immoral destruction, if it means I don't have to be a slave or food for an ant.
