honestly, I feel so bad for loosey. she was my favorite from day 1, and I think everything, including the edit, really screwed her. It gave me “I’ll call everyone who speaks Spanish SPANISH, even tho they’re Latinx and not from SPAIN” vibes , her accent doesn’t match the “chola” look, cholos are this huge subculture and is mostly based in Mexican American communities, her accent sounds puerto rican to me. That’s NOT a chola accent .. it’s almost offensive 😅

Please remember Anetra make/sew almost all of what she wears herself. She doesn’t hv a team working for her like some other queens.
Not only that…compared to Sasha, a lot of the queens in this season and past, don’t have the money like Sasha. Sasha is a seasoned queen. Established and also inherited land and money from her father. Sasha even said herself when she won the first maxi challenge that she can afford to buy her costume. Yes it’s not about money for her winning but you can’t be coming for Anetra and other queens who do not have a lot of money.
Salina has said in interviews that she intensifies her accent when in drag but also codeswitches out of drag, forcing herself to sound more 'white' in certain contexts. this is actually very common for immigrants and ppl with accents in general so to act like it's fake is, imo, disingenuous and completely misunderstanding how ppl with accents often talk

This is almost like the same concept as using your "customer service" voice when you want to make a more professional and less personal impression on people. It feels like her intensifying her accent in drag is a way of being more vulnerable and personable. It really puts her stamp on the way she expresses herself.
That's an interesting concept to me, since I can't turn off my accent even if I wanted to so idk how people do it. I have a Finnish accent when I speak English and I can't even adjust the strength of it 🥲

i think loosey's color scheme and overall the way her clothing folded and looked was also a reference to her construction worker by day kinda thing! at least it looked like that to me

It really upset me when loosey started crying after luxx and mistress went after her. When she said it reminded her of being in school and kids laughing at her for whenever she opened her mouth to talk, I'm assuming because she was a feminine sounding gay child, it broke me. They went too far and they must have seen her crying in the same room after that. I hate that fellow queer people made another queer person feel like that...

Maddy is my partner's number one fav as well and we finally got to see her at a drag brunch. AMAZING. I really wish we could have seen more on drag race but Maddy is doing an awesome job post show with Give It To Me Straight and the show reviews. ❤

The Selena scenario: I've grown up in the south my whole life. In highschool years and early adulthood (with exposure to various medias) I spoke very clearly with minimal accent. There were a lot of negative connotations to sounding "like a hick". However when I was around my family, relaxed, tired, or angry my accent would thicken. Now that I'm older I don't try to sound non-southern, have a specific "phone" voice, tamp it down in public or professional speaking opportunities. I have kind of settled into it and can better consolidate that my accent doesn't make me professional or not professional. And that I don't have to "play a part" to be taken seriously. That is coming from a white woman... This topic is much more complex with BIPOC and groups where English isn't their first language, or are 1st generation, etc. I can't speak to the specifics of Selena's background, but her speaking without an accent on a video meant for public consumption I don't believe is evidence enough to be labeled as faking Hispanic accent.

I felt the exact same way, even though I started giving a second thought after hearing someone else say she has a dry sense of humor. I could understand that but it's just giving mean girl to me personally. And the "you hate to see a confident black queen" comments always makes it worse to me because associating this behavior with simply being confident while black feels... not right. Especially being black myself and knowing where that defense is stemming from. It's just not a fun time imo.

This fan base has shown a long history of iniquitous treatment of black compared to the white queens so it’s not a stretch of the imagination.
100% there for Trin's response to Luxx. While I enjoyed many of Luxx's looks, I wasn't a fan of her attitude towards others. We don't have to cut others down in order to lift ourselves up. Sasha proved unequivocally that humility and kindness always wins 💖💖Hoping Luxx gains some truths from this season. She's a very young queen with much to learn.

Bob's track was clean, witty, and technical. I adored it! I wish Mistress's vocals were cleaner, because the audio quality really tanked my ability to hear and comprehend her reads, which I was looking forward to.
My thing is I love when queens know they’re fierce but fighting all your cast mates and especially former winners is not a good look for your own brand and certainly not for RPDR. learn to just play the game fairly like Sasha did js

I’m not defending Luxx as her delusion is very apparent and obviously there, but I KNOW that having a fight like this against someone popular, even if the fight is irrelevant and stupid, will cause many death threats and hate to be sent in Luxx's way. I definitely believe that the tweets she made addressing trinity at the end were because of the fact that she feels like trinity is helping endorse all the nasty things people are saying by liking and commenting on tweets. I think that the fight between them should be left between them and there is no need to rile up rude fans more.

As a bilingual non English native speaker, you literally can switch on and off your accent. We tend to switch off our inherited accent to fit in and blend into the background. Salina speaking with her accent to me is a power move, and yes, she probably can speak with a perfect Californian English accent

I don't know if this is weird - I almost never watch reunion episodes. I find them boring.
I am not at all invested in the interpersonal drama, I watch for the fashion and the humor and all around wide range of artistic skills the queens demonstrate.
But I am glad the reviews like this exist so I can be low-key informed about what I purposefully missed :)

If you haven’t seen Sugar’s finale look, you’re going to be gagging. Good god is it beautiful. As for the reunion, I hate that Loosey’s real issues were just shoved under the rug like they didn’t matter. So we can focus on someone apologising for calling Luxx et al bullies, but we can’t focus on the fact that…they were bullies. Systematically trying to tear Loosey down and even stating on camera that they wanted her to crack and break. Picking on her every chance they got, ganging up on her, attacking her weakest points knowing full well what they were doing. That’s not shade anymore, that’s just bullying. And it’s not cool. And it’s just as bad to gloss over it like it never happened.

I guess we'll have to wait until All Stars to see how she comes across with more screen time. She was definitely shady, but said that was part of the drag scene. A lot of us didn't like the way Mistress and Luxx TEAMED UP against Loosey. It was 2 against one, and everyone could see how emotionally vulnerable Loosey was getting. I wouldn't call it bullying, but there was some gaslighting involved.
I'd be so mad if I was one of the queens who got featured almost not at all. Maybe the cast is too big if you're going to pay this many queens this much dust.
If you want to be featured, make yourself featured. Irene had no problem inserting herself and bringing things up, and the other queens could have easily done that. If you want to be memorable, do something memorable on the show. It’s literally all in their control.

The bird app Drag Race fandom is riddled with disgusting trolls. And sadly they seem to always make up the majority of the fanbase. Whenever they're on some bullshit, their bullshit becomes a fandom-wide problem. In reality, they alone are the problem. That's why I stick my irrelevant opinions on YT comments and the occasional reddit posts, where people seem to be gathered up quick if they start to veer into toxic territory. It's a personal rule of mine to send nothing but love if I'm on any post or video dedicated to 1 specific queen. Going out of her way to send hate to queens is disgusting.

She only got the Golden Boot & that one response to Irene. AND lemme just say, look up code-switching!!! Because sometimes we use different accents in different company, okay? But I'm glad it got resolved.
Looks like producers were affording more time to the "main characters" who were giving more on the show. I know it's not a new concept to give more screentime to the most fun and entertaining people, but I still would have liked to hear more from quite a few of the queens. I wonder just how much was edited out in favor of the other queens
People need to look up The Chameleon Effect. It's a behavior most humans do. To copy accents, body language and mannerisms of people they are around. It's so people will like you and don't feel threatened.

To speak in Salina's defense here, I'm korean american and speak fluent korean and english. I was born and raised in the states so I have no accent when i speak UHMERICAN... UNTIL I hang around a bunch of korean expats for an extensive period of time. I sound like a full on fob after a bit and it's completely involuntary haha. Sometimes when our environments change, the standard of what "normal" changes as well and a lot of us unknowingly bend to its will. Just my experience tho!
