Tasmanian Devil Versus Salmo Hornet

  • Decided to fish my two favorite trout lures against each other at Aurora reservoir in Denver Colorado. The Tasmanian Devil is my old favorite and the Salmo Hornet has become my recent go to for trout. I was only able to fish for two hours before the weather forced me off the lake. In the end, it was a close competition with the Tazie edging out the Hornet 3-2.

I’ve never used a Tasmanian devil, but it’s funny you posted this cause a buddy was just telling me the other day that I needed to try it!! Looks like you had fun, I’m definitely gonna try one now

Your buddy is absolutely correct! The tazzie is a great trout lure! I pretty much just troll it but I have seen guys have a lot of success casting it. It has great side to side action

Greg, I believe The Tasmanian won, because its profile is longer and skinny, more minnow like in appearance. Thats why a Jensen ," Super Duper" metal lure works so well, compared to a Mepos spinner or panther martin spinner.

Thanks Eugene! That is very good insight. I’ll have to check out the Super Duper this season.

Just found your videos. I’m digging them. Just fished Aurora Res for the first time yesterday. Wanted to ask, is your method trolling with those lures?

Hey Jonathan! I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. Yes…i pretty much troll those two lures. This time of year it can be a little tricky trolling at places antero because of all the weeds.

@@gregroden8523 Hi Greg, I absolutely agree on the weeds. Did a little research on the Taz lure. Thinking I might pick one or two up and give them a try. Thank you. Oh, maybe a rainy day video idea, for what its worth, I'd love to see how you rig these Taz lures.

I have never seen a leash on a pole in fresh water, what is the concept behind it? I don't think a trout is going to pull the rod out of your hands. Don't mean any disrespect, just curious.

Thanks for watching! Great question! Ya the reason I put a leash on those certain rods is…they are filled with leadcore line and sink immediately when I accidentally drop them in the water.
