- Joseph Ades, the man who could sell anything -- but especially vegetable peelers -- died February 4, 2009 at the age of 75.

Born in England but with a voice that recalled Australia, Joseph Ades was a legend in New York City. He was featured in the Daily News, Vanity Fair and other publications which he displayed next to the little table where he sold vegetable peelers. The peelers flew out of his hands like magic.

It is fascinating to know that there are people who have all sorts of talents. One must admit this man had a personality which fitted well in a city crowded society and he did it with such simplicity. He did not just sell but he entertained and he broke the loneliness of a city with giving people part of himself. He was a brilliant salesman but I would say that he also had a good product to sell.
JOE ADES is a LEGEND always will be,, I had the pleasure of knowing the man working with him,, I was glad to know him,, he taught me many things,, theres no SHIT in joe he spoke hes mind and kept me on my path when was young,, he got me to realise who it was I was hanging with,, he came o Australia for many years worked Sydney and Melbourne with the Melbourne boys working the streets till they changed the laws ,, he was GENTLEMEN AND A SCHOLAR WAS PROUD TO KNOW HIM ,, IT SADDENS ME TO KNOW OF HES PASSING !!!

Remember that Joe bought them wholesale... he was probably buying them by the gross (that's 144 units). I wouldn't be surprised if he was paying just a dollar per peeler after buying in such bulk amounts.
I’m guessing I must have bought ten of those great potato peelers from him over the years.
I liked to watch his show while he worked several street corners, all over the city. He had quite the performance.
