069. Hornby's LSL Class 43 Midland PULLMAN full rake Train Magnetic Couplings tested on Incline (4K)

- This video is a continuation of my videos No. 056 (carriages unboxing) & 057 (locos tested with original Blue Pullman carriages) but now the train has the correct full rake of BR Mk.3 carriages (all listed below). However, as the carriages came with Hornby’s alternative new Buckeye magnetic close couplings, I fitted them. Note, the Class 43 locomotive pair do not come with alternative magnetic couplings ?
John Harman’s layout is a great testbed for these couplings, because it has two opposing 1:60 inclines, ideal so see whether the magnets can take the weight of the train without parting. Also to see if the close coupling can endure the layout’s many points.
Reason for me buying this model train :
As soon as someone spotted this amazing looking blue & white train for real, leaving Eastleigh Shed or somewhere in the far south of England & uploaded their footage to CZcams, I was fascinated. I love the original Blue Pullman & have the Bachmann one, which is just gorgeous. So when Hornby announced they were introducing this one off HST 125 set, I had to have it, all of it, so ordered the whole train straight away. I think the train appeared in Hornby’s centenary catalogue back in 2020.
Initially I ordered the Power Cars through Hattons & the carriages through Kernow Model Railway Centre. However, Hattons couldn’t supply for some reason (political Hornby stuff I guess), so moved my whole order to Kernow. The order arrived early 2023.
The real Prototype train with its brand new Kitchen Cars can be viewed on the ‘Phil Clarke’ CZcams channel here :

Great running session, very nice hst set and rake, thanks for sharing.
Wow that is a lovely rake on the LSL Class 43 Midland PULLMAN also great video (:
Thanks Jai. There will probably be a little follow-up video some time to correct a Hornby painting error.
Quite a rake and a very attractive livery. Mighty busy at Ally Pally, alas our paths didn't cross.
A lovely thing, hence I wanted one.
I was looking for your orange hat all day, but not one visible 🤷
Certainly a lovely train. So good how these trains has been given a new lease of life. You asked about the kitchen car. It appears Hornby are correct, as the window shapes are clearly visible on pics of the real thing.
Just got to the end of the video realised you answered your own question, least we now know.
My live commentary whilst filming, then I check details later and add any findings to the finished product.
My next video of Stirling Single pulling Hattons Genesis GNR teaks does the same.
Not managed to add this to my HST collection yet, but your video does show how very gorgeous it is 🙂🙂🙂
Haven't I just commented on one of your videos running a Flying Scotsman ?
@@andrewdking yes, I always like to see what other's have filmed, especially if it's an HST 😍
@@mangleytown I can remember seeing my first one on the other side of the River Thames at Mapledurham nr Reading whilst fishing in the late 1970s. Also Concorde would regularly fly over. Magic, trains, planes and fishing 😀
I would love one of these sets but the price tag is hideous
Actually not, well the loco pairs are far too expensive agreed, especially as only one end is powered.
The carriages though are quite good value at £40 or less each, considering they are new tooling. Most other similar sized carriages are now around £60 each. However, to mimic the whole train, you need nine carriages, which I agree is a wad of cash.
So that's somewhere between £650 and £700, then if you add sound in each power car, that's another £200 ish, plus Hornby's new carriage light bars, hmm, now yes almost a grand 😬
Then we could add TRS Trains diesel smoke exhausts each end, at approx £600 per end.....
I'm not making it easy for you am I ?
I say that because Kyle at TRS is experimenting with diesel smoke effects.
