#warhammer40k #miniatures #gamesworkshop - Jak na to + styl
I just feel this so much. I'm 31 years old but between work and being a husband and father, I just need to preserve my inner kid, but with adult money of course 😅
I turned 38 this year and decided to finally embrace this hobby. I just felt that I needed something more to do at home that wasn't just chores, parenting, and then dreading the next day of work. Video games used to be my escape but there's too many Activision-like news and anti-consumer practices that keep occurring for me to really care anymore. GW isn't any better, but assembling & painting YOUR army set feels more fulfilling than fighting scalpers for that expensive Collector's Edition or overpriced Amiibo any freaking day. I mean, you only live once. So find a hobby that makes you happy regardless if it's professional or for just pure mental enjoyment.
@@84jesterx couldn't have said it better 😊
I am 49 (pushing 50) and have been playing since I was 18 (Rogue Trader). Despite giving up for a while in the 2000s (I got back into 40k around 6th edition) my pile of shame tends to eclipse the sun when I transfer it to our den so I can set up my gaming table. Nonetheless I have painted masses over the lockdown period (finally it feels as if the end of my metal minis collection might be in sight?). So I agree that we need to preserve our inner kids with adult money!
@@84jesterx I just turned 38 on Saturday and bought my first starter set on Sunday. Did it for the exact same reasons
as a person who is relatively new to the hobby your channel has been to great help
That's great, I still buy random Battletech figures or terrain despite having not played a tabletop game of battletech in 20 years. There's something freeing about going in a game shop and buying a model because it is neat or exciting instead of because you need 30 more troop models to round out your army.
The interesting thing about this is by highlighting the panel edges on a black prime you've done the opposite of the typical airbrush preshade. And it worked really well.
I’ve done a few Aeronautica models now, never played the game. They’re fun, quick build and you can get really good results because of the detail packed into them. The Ork jets in particular are a great time.
Awesome! Do try the game some time though… I really enjoy it!
Not going to lie, I would love to get one of the thunderhawk minis...and I would totally fly it around the room as well 🤣
Jay, "The way I refill my energy bar is by hobbying; alone with my toys..."
Nick, "Am I just a toy to you?!"
2:43 The flying sequences really made me laugh. Vroom-zoom, indeed. 🤩
Oooh, the freehand, especially the Maltese Crosses, is very cool.
Great Paintjob!
Every game of Aeronautica i play is full of "Woosh" and "PewPew" noises from both player.
There is just no way NOT do it and its super fun.
Whener i get new ships, the first thing i do when im done building is give oen to my daughter so we can run around the house Wooshing and Pewing
I think the best part of this channel is your enthusiasm and the fun you have with the hobby. It makes me want to pick up the brush.
Jay your final message was very wise. Enjoy your hobbying!
I think it's absolutely important for a human being to "play". Everyone picks his own ways of doing it but psychologically I think it needs to be done to preserve the freedom to imagine and create. I'm in quarantine with two small kids right now. I've started building a ship model made of wood, I bought a bluebrixx kit, a wooden big ben puzzle and some Lego toys for my daughter (the younger sibling just wants to eat everything). Building sth really or playing boardgames with my gf really relaxes me and helps me get through this hard time not being allowed to leave my home. And everyone with kids knows how much simple playing can be and how creative small children are when it comes to free playing. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with the childrens imagination and being able to allow every "game rule" there is to be bent. But I'll try my best. It's just about having fun next to all the crazy and stressing things we adults are forced to do.
Great reminder about what really matters about our hobbies. Thanks!
Thank you for all these videos. Returning to the hobby after 20 years. Your full of tips and cheers. Really enjoying the hobby, and getting better. Thanks (will get a mini thunder hawk now)
Really liked that window glow technique! Great end result and that free handing
Thanks for the video J. Love your positivity.
Kudos for making my favorite chapter! It is hilarious how badly they are painted by most. Your work really translates the spirit of the chapter.
Ah I know that introvert recharging need very well. Hobbying is a great place to do that 😍 Can't beat getting new goodies!
I love the view from the thunderhawks point of view. The little flying bit. Keep up the great work.
I can dig this. I'm almost 50 and I've been playing miniature wargames since I was a kid. It keeps me young and it's kept my imagination intact.
I’m so happy I stumbled upon your CZcams! Love your content!!! ❤️
Dudes! This video was awesome! The camera work and editing are getting better all the time. And those cockpit windows... *chef's kiss*
Loved this video!!! Made my day.
The aeronautical models are probably the most detailed and nicely made models GW has ever made.
I don't think they're more detailed than the Adeptus Titanicus models. I build both, and while Aeronautica kits have some of the tiniest pieces, I don't think they quite reach the detail of the Titanicus stuff.
The base is easily enough pulled apart. They are just clipped togeather, no glue. Once painted the dial only go back in one way, so really easy to re assemble. Give it a go. Custom bases make a difference.
That wraparound checkering is wild!
100k subs! congrats Jay and Nick!
100k LEZGOOOOO AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I just found war gaming and your channel a few months ago but I'm so happy for you guys :)
I just built a Deathwatch Thunderhawk and used your Land Raider Crusader painting guide for doing the black panels. The method you suggested is worked so well and it looks mega on a large model
Good video, Jay. Paint the models you like and play the rules you want to play. Forget FOMO and chasing the "best" army build.
I've always drybrushed without water. This subtle tip is definitely something I'm going to try.
check out the Artis Opus channel for in-depth dry brushing work.
Nice model! Great job on hitting 100,000 subs!
Spaceship go vroom indeed
The angle of the dangle on the red rocket is definitely important 😆
It's fun seeing painters who are used to doing 28mm+ go into the smaller scales. I grew up with 6mm and 15mm mini's, so scaling up to 28's (thanks to KT21) has been a REAL challenge painting wise.
Your hair grew fast! I too want a thunder hawk to fly around my house. I just might have to get one! Thanks gents! Enjoyed it!!
Spaceship go vroom indeed. Nice build and a nice video. Now I need to find me one... or two.
This was a great video with a great message.
Great video! I also bought this ship with zero plans to start AerImp. It's just a cool little ship to have on the shelf
I found an old Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Cruiser on ebay that I just "had" to have for the same reason, they are COOL. Zoom zoom, boom boom. I they started trying to brainstorm how it might connect with the Sister of Battle I'd been collecting and came up with the ship being some kind of reliquary ship on loan to the church like so many others. I kitbashed some stuff I thought was cool, (building/modeling is my favorite part of the hobby, after the lore) and now I have an entire backstory behind my ship that places it as the homebase for my Order of the Ebon Chalice gals and the Pronatus Order they work with. I'm excited to get some Voidbreachers here soon from Kill Team to add to the family, haha.
The chances of me ever playing BFG are next to zero, but that didn't really matter. Although I will admit to making sure my ship could pass as a legal ship if such an event ever happened. I kept it a standard cruiser, for example, as Battlecruisers can't be fielded without having more ships. Sometimes it's hard to turn off the smolder of hope that someday you could play, haha. XD
I also found painting my thunderhawk bases difficult. I ended up putting a little bit of parchment/newspaper into the turning parts to protect them from paint and then paint around it. They look better with matching paint to the aircraft in my opinion (though now with Imperialis there are bases with rims for them).
Great vid. And look, so close to the big 100k! Congrats in advance.
Nice job on the gunship and congrats on the 100k Jay!
Impossible not to give a like after such a great video and message! Grats on the 100k!
Excellent video!
This technique looks so cool and I was stoked to find this vid now that I will be painting several ravenguard THGs. Lol though that you ended up doing the Reaver rather than a forgeworld Thunderhawk recently ;D
Nice paintjob! Changing up the model scale from 28mm down to in my case lately 6mm Battletech has been a fun change of pace, and like you said brings some different perspectives on coloring and highlighting such small (but in universe large) vehicles.
Eventually id like to expand my chapter to having a navy fleet. Everytime I see a ship model I think of a tested video with Adam and Fon Davis talking about iridescent paint and specular highlights to be able to break up large clean surfaces and add visual interest while maintaining the clean uniform aesthetic. Space marines can be a lot more dirty and worn but whenever I get a FW stormbird, I definitely want to try it. Or maybe if I start eldar.
Oh hey, you guys have hit 100k subscribers, congratulations!
I've definitely used your method of painting whatever inspires you at the time and not get hung up on any one project. I found I get much more painted overall because I don't burnout as much.
YOOO CONGRATS ON 100K NICK AND JAY
Great video guys👍
100K! congratulations!!
Nice closing message.
I'm painting a large force of Black Talons for Heavy Gear Blitz (20+ models... lol). During the test painting stage, I realized that when I used Vallejo's brush-on matte varnish it would reactivate on edges, living the white/grey primer showing. Pretty edge highlights for next to no effort.
Looks amazing, I tend to avoid mat varnish over metallics
That checkered pattern looks great
happy 100k guys
I love the smaller scale stuff. I build and paint Aeronautica and Titanicus stuff all the time. Epic scale has always been my preferred way to enjoy the 41st Millennium.
Congrats on hitting 100k subs 😁👏
great vid! I would love to see some terrain making tutorials from you guys. not just foam and plasticard, but also some nick 3d moddeling vids
A good video but I was very distracted by the 1988 Adeptus Titanicus Warlord Battle Titans Box that I noticed on your shelf; pretty cool.
Yea! Spaceship go wroom!
Amen brother - just turned 52 - the older you get the truer it is 😁
Congrats on 100K
Great video bro
I like how much you enjoy the actual hobby and that’s really what the channel is about. Too many painting videos are about a technique or something you HAVE to do
Absolutely agree, hobbying is about having fun, at 38 years of age the greatest lesson I've learned is to do something that makes me happy everyday, even if it's something small like watching an old movie I've been thinking of watching again or goofing around for five minutes with my toys. At some point in the day I try to do something purely because it makes me happy, no over thinking, or trying to be productive, just pure self indulgence. life is too short to waste it making plans that may or may not lead to happiness later. Enjoy it while you can!!
that black recipe is chefs kiss!
also loved the outro thoughts about keeping things fun!
Just painting my own that was bought for the same reason, I've since played a game of AI at the club and it was surprisingly good. Would also recommend the Adeptus Titanticus models for the same sort of interesting build
Almost to 100k !!!!!!!!
As a display piece, I'd be tempted to paint the base as a technical readout, glowing green etc to contrast with the red and the dark tone of the model. Maybe pure black or blue/black stem with or without speckled white starscape?
Amen brother! Its a hobby, let's have fun and enjoy.
congrats on 100K 🙂
"Spaceship go vrooooom!" - said a wise man once...
Great channel dude I don't play 40k but love painting and you have a fun channel. like and sub👍
Needed that lecture at the end. keep not buying minis because "that doesnt fit an army, i dont have a game system for that" but.. i want it. lol
My local group has started to lovingly refer to our Warhammer models as "War Dollies" LOL
Closing in on 100k 💪
If you want a diorama idea you can get a few 8mm epic space marines and have it look like they are disembarking onto a battlefield. been thinking of picking up a couple of these for my own epic 40k games.
The space marines from the Warhammer 40k Risk game are actually the perfect size for this.
Hey man I really only get into WH anymore for the lore and silly gun stuff, but I just wanted to say thanks for having a positive channel. You seem to enjoy yourself -- that's why I dig hobby content. If you ever wanna' gripe about GW feel free though. haha
Hey, Jay! Now with the new gw shades it will propably not possible to proper tint a model down with a shade like (a new) nuln oil. What shade you gonna use for this purpose in the future?
I want this tiny thunderhawk too 😭
Lovely table at 0:37 - Would love to see how you made it
I personally fly my FW Thunderhawk around making "Pew Pew" sounds so I know where you are coming from.
Loved the video and finished model. I also totally agree with "enjoy your hobby". I tired of all the whinging I see on youtube. This was just the opposite and so thank you.
He proceeded to get no 1, but 2 warhound titans lol
Quick question about how you applied your varnish? Did you apply it via brush or through an airbrush?
This turned out so great! I'd be very interested what you'd do with the Forge World one, but no pressure, that thing is expensive.
I cannot fathom who is the person those massive forgeworld models market to. The multimillionaire type doesn’t strike me as the one who plays minis - yes I know about Robin Williams and Henry Cavil but that’s more exception than rule.
I can’t imagine they sell many per year. I’d love a titan sometime to throw into a mega 40k battle someday with another fan up for an 8 hour battle in the 41st millennium
Common Jay W 🙏
I do that sometimes myself with my X-wing minis as well. >_>
I really like the message in the last few seconds of this video. Too many people treat games like professional sports and Hobbies like they should be a second income. They are there for you to enjoy. If you don't like them, don't do it! I no longer enjoy 9th edition 40k, so I stopped playing. I picked up One Page Rules and like the 5th edition vibe. So that is what I do now.
I hope this video inspires lots of folks. I wat someone to play Aeronautica with
Totally feel the video and purchase… buuut… may I recommend trying aeronautica too? It’s really fun!
Talking about forge world....I'll be possibly acquiring an astreus super heavey Tank
you should play aeronautical. it's a fun game . also paint the base. you can pop them apart easily so you don't get paint on the dials
Will you free hand the guys in the cabin glass and there would have been a nice pic fit led and that crappy clear plastic and there maybe a decal eldar for hover bikes for that checkers and other setouts as that must have taken some time!?? Nice 😃😄😁😆😅 5 Smiles.
Enjoy your model. Pew pew noises intensifies!
Epic Armageddon is an awesome game, you should definitely give it a try someday 😁
Nice paintjob but... I'm still waiting for you to finish your genestealer cult 👀
