Nowitzki did this many times in his career. Would re sign early and forfeit a lot of money on the scaling payment to help his team. Per athletic nowitzki overall forfeited more than 100 millions to help his team.
Now there's the unfortunate circumstance that Mark Cuban in his infinite wisdom gave that money to chandler parsons but that's another story.

Knicks fan here, LOVE Jalen; I would've totally understood him wanting the bigger contract next year but him accepting this one and studying success as self justification and team flexibility makes me love him even more.

As a Knicks fan, this nearly made me cry. He continues to put the team above all when he's the heart and soul of it. He's going to score the same amount of points this year per game and his assists will reach at least 7.5 per game adding Bridges to the Knicks. However, we still need a back-up center and need to figure out if Randle fits what we're doing for the future and right now. Still a couple of big question marks there (same with Mitch Rob simply because of his health), but I think we see one more big move soon or at least like resigning Achiuwa.

I'm a lifelong Knicks fan, since 1980. This is more than a pretty damn good deal - this is an alltime great understanding what he needs to do to help get the chip home. Brunson is perhaps the greatest Knick point guard of all time, and I'm obviously aware of the others who have played the position for us.
