That's brought up in the multiverse of madness. Christine says that reason why she and Strange didn't work out was that he "always had to be the one who holds the knife." And that while she can respect that, she can't love him for it.
And to drive it home, there was one version of dr. Strange that....didn't take that very well.

The Watcher this episode is that older brother that watches his younger brother do something stupid and hurts himself.
I've got a suspicion that this was one of the first episodes they came up with in the writers room, because this episode just feels so complete in every aspect. It is still currently the best episode in 'What If...?", in my opinion anyways.
I agree. It was very well written and tight episode. No second wasted. It genuinely felt like seeing a whole movies condensed into one episode.

That's twice we've seen that tentacle monster, I really hope Shuma Gorath does make a fully fledged appearance in the MCU (He's essentially Marvel's version of Cthulhu, even Dormammu respects him and he's arguably the most powerful magical being in the multiverse).
Also all his appearances are just avatars/proxies of his true cosmic horror form which can end all of existence with his mere aura.
That's the scariest part of him. They're literally never fighting the whole thing, because the minute he breaches their dimension it's game over.

So Iâm pretty sure he turned himself into an infinity stone, specifically a power stone. In the MCU the stones are burn from the death of a universe. Also the Watcher is the original reactor. He has more views than anyone too I bet lol.

What truly broke me was the realisation that Strange never stopped trying to be a hero, misguided really is the best word. He truly believed that saving Christine was the right thing to do, no matter the cost, that her inevitable death was WRONG. The second he realises what he's done he begs the Watcher, not for forgiveness or his own life, but everyone else's. He immediately understands the gravity and futility of what he's done at the exact same time he realises its too late... and there's nothing he can do.
Hearing Strange apologise to the void he created endlessly for his actions hurts my soul: you can tell he truly means it from the bottom of his broken heart.

I read this on another comment, but what Strange is doing with Christine being unable to let go, is what he did with Dormamu. Heâs suffering and looping back over and over and over again until things work out for the better. He has incredible conviction and patience. Unfortunately it wonât ever be enough to save Christine.

Doctor Strange went through the time honoured tradition of using magic for personal gain will ALWAYS lead to consequences.
It's one thing to see a Hero lose, it's another thing entirely to see them become their own worst enemy, turn into a monster and by the time they realise their mistakes as well as show true remorse, it's already too late... :/

I love how they show what an absolute problem Doctor Strange is. Makes me even more pumped for his movie seeing him as full power Strange.
14:55 I guess in stories that have a multiverse, like Marvel or Dc as stories, everything can be canon, from the "main avengers story" to the silly cartoon versions of them. Even different adaptations of the same storyline, like the animated "ultimate spiderman" is as canon as the comic "ultimate spiderman", it could just be considered a different universe.
For Roshi: so apparently the watchers are powerful beings that watch a universe and just love knowledge, until one watcher tried interfering to help but made things very worse some how and clapped a universe, so now because that one watcher interfering they donât and canât do that anymore they just watch.
They can interfere at anytime they took a vow not to.
What's funny is the Watcher says he can't intervein or he won't, but he is all the time. Just by watching. It's called "The Observers Effect", if something or someone feels like there being watched they will act differently. And Strange literally felt it in this episode, so Watcher already messed up.

NGL. Watching him try over and over again and descend into insanity reminded me of certain parts of Re:Zero. Also, the suit from the last episode was Hank's Yellowjacket suit. It was representative of his anger issues phase in the comics.

Nope. Theory has been debunked by official promos. He will get redeem and be apart of this What IF Avengers style team called The Guardians of the Multiverse to save the multiverse.

And/or Mephisto. And/or is the Dr. Strange from the No Way Home trailer, because he still has his Eye of Agamotto. Our Strange's eye was crushed by Thanos in Infinity War.

Dr Strange in NWH is OUR Dr Strange. He has always acted like that. Stated by Thanos, the eye of Agamoto we saw was a fake one that Dr Strange had made with his magic
U can have character development but still have the core traits. Dr Strange loves testing his limits and is egoistic like in the comics.

This episode was my favorite piece of Marvel animation ever made. Masterfully done. That OST was S-Tier. Really tugged at the heart. It's such a tragic scenario. Uatu says he can't interfere because of his people's oath, but he's known to get involved all the time. However, I honestly don't think it would've stopped this Strange from pushing forward. Even if Uatu physically tapped him on the head and showed him a vision of this exact outcome in the end, this Strange would've likely been so arrogant as to think he can just find a way to avoid it and proceed with his plan.
4:08 The show you want is pushing up daisys, the MC can bring anyone back to life but if its for longer than a minute someone random dies and the resurrected person just continues to live. it was a good show from what i can remember.

Yes, Uatu swore an oath to observe and document only. All Watchers take that oath.
In the comic books, Uatu breaks that oath (usually to save the Earth) and he breaks it a lot. He's supposed to be an impartial observer, but he is clearly emotionally attached to his subject. He let that universe die, but admitted that his motive was to protect the other universes (and thus the other Earths).
Can you explain one of his times of breaking the oath like how did he do it and who or what did he stop

Not only did this version of Doctor Strange pulled a Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars episode 3 Revenge of the Sith but also became something out of HP Lovecraft, sometimes you have to accept the Grim Reaper and let him or her do it his or her job.
Something I hadn't realized until now, the loop where Strange asks Christine would drive was kind of an attempted suicide right? Like he thought if they switched positions in the car she'd survive and he'd die in the passenger seat like she had.

I love this episode!! Yo! Even though the outcome was miserable, I needed it to end that way. The "mad" Dr Strange spent CENTURIES absorbing the powers of mystical creatures and studying at the library. He was more knowledgeable and powerful than "sane" Dr Strange. Plus he was focused. If the good/sane Dr Strange had won, I would have been disappointed. A last minute win by the good guy would have been corny.

Fun fact: Initially the watchers did try to help worlds and universes , but because those worlds would end up advancing so much that they ended up destroying their own worlds they decided it was best to just sit back and observe, ie Watch. The Watchers are a race where each watcher is in charge of a different sector. Uatu which is our watcher is in charge of the MCU. I might have gotten some things wrong but that's generally what happened and what's happening.
Yo pay attention to the watcher, he becomes more visible in each episode, and you see him interact with Dr strange here. What Disney did was they tried to attract more viewers to the show, so they pushed this episode earlier, and thats why the Watcher is more relevant.

If he saves her, he won't become sorcerer supreme and won't gain the power to manipulate time in the first place. Saving her creates a paradox that would cause him to fail to save the he universe.
