And speak of pessimism at times but if you watch them, they are very optimistic. They just refused to be manipulated by a federation that pisses on their shoe and tries to convince them its rain. True. But, on the other hand, this is exactly what I felt about the team pretty much the entire period from 2011 to 2017 when the program finally collapsed. I've felt mostly good about the last six years compared to the prior period.
Berhalter for the first time in the job failed to meet the minimum required expectations. He deserves to be dismissed.
But I figure its only about 50% chance that it will get better once he's fired or resigns. There is some lucky MLS team that will pick Gregg up. But there just aren't a lot of great choices for a coach that are realistic and available right now. I don't foresee the team even having a coach until early next year if they release him now.

Uruguay population 3.4 mil - TWO world cup wins. US population 342 mil. Estimated total number of youth in soccer development academies in Uruguay at U14 -- 105K; for USA at U14 -- 2.4Mil. It's the quality of training, not the number of youth being trained. We need to focus on recruiting socioeconomically disadvantaged youth--we owe it to them and these youth have much more ambition/drive. MSL/USSF needs to comply with FIFA RSTP solidarity payment guidelines, so that US youth soccer development can shift from the short-term goal of extracting fees from parents to the long-term goal of actually developing youth skills/knowledge (This actually will make $$$$$$$$$ in the long term). USSF can also get a real manager for the men's team. Jurgen Klopp is out there!

@@steelace1LOL at your LOL. Quick short passes is how you play soccer and create scoring chances, plus not all the passes were short. Pepi had several chances SAVED which you probably consider a "miss." Our players are good finishers though: Pulsic, Reyna, Weah, Pepi, Balogun, Wright, Aaronson, Lletget, Mihailovic, McKennie. Only Musah is a bad finisher (so far).

@@colinreese Any shot on goal is not a miss, this is coming from a striker. I usually rate players based on work rate, creative play, and assists or goals. Musah is very bad and should never play, and I am fine with what you said, but Lletget is not good and Reyna is massively overhyped and takes up space on the field IMHO. I thought Robinson and Joe Scally were very good this tournament.

He was like “he apologized and we’re moving on.” Well, that was the root of the lack of discipline that led to Weah’s red card. The worst betrayal for me is that over say the last 2 international windows we've seen these *glimpses* of what this team *could* be. The chemistry between Gio and Haji. Puli's individual brilliance. Ream's stone cold defensive confidence. Our fire in the midfield. But even after some of the best moments I was never able to trust that we wouldn't get embarrassed again by Greggg's incompetence.
Berhalter's superpower is blame deflection, so your choice of the term "gaslit" is perfect. He *is* a narcissist. But I could accept that if he were actually any good. He's not.

Big up and well said on the state of the world side comment. Soccer or Football are one of the few escapes we get from the rigors of the world and even that is in flux. Also I would add that it's not only shameful, it is embarrassing the direction we put forth in this game. The US Soccer Federation is in a very similar place as our nation. It is not in a good place and certainly plays a part in this debacle we are faced with in finding some stability. Onwards and Upwards to my fellow USMNT supporters and I wish you well.

    Offside take:
The VAR team looks at all camera angles and frames, not just the one used by the broadcast.
They have a tool that draws the lines based on the dimensions of the view (the "not parallel" argument is ridiculous as this is factored in by the software)
There are limitations with certain angles and quality, but because of those limitations VAR needs to consider the complete range of frames where the header may be in contact, in this case, it is likely the first frame of the header
The presented "Frame" shows (1) contact with the ball, (2) the backmost US player, and (3) the foremost Uruguayan player. when a line drawn between 2 & 3 does not show any part of the Uruguayan past the line - VAR does not have a "clear and obvious" argument to challenge the call on the field. Even If the following 2/3 frames demonstrate a clear offside, it doesn't override the fact that there was at least one frame, from one camera angle that demonstrates onside.
That's how "clear and obvious" works: American's can stop crying about it.

I wish at least one player from USMNT just shows some raw emotion in a post game interview showing how much they just hate and detest losing. Show that passion. Show that desire. Bring that fire. Guys like Dempsey, Jermaine Jones, Tim Howard, had that intensity and just hatred of losing that i just dont see current guys having. And i dont mean complaining to a ref. I mean, in an interview and just sheer passion that they love this game and will do everything they can to win. I just dont feel that with these guys.

Because we don't have any "winners" in the squad, except Pulisic for his UCL victory. Some of the guys won other cups but I don't care much about those. In short, most of them don't know what it's like to win anything, except the meaningless concacaf trophies. This is another problem with not having players at the top clubs in the world that actually win things of significance. Besides not having the top competitive experience, they know no one will take them seriously if they talk about hating losing. I wouldn't. So they don't bother talking about it, and they shouldn't.

    1. First the competition:
1.1. I think it was a great decision to join CONMEBOL with CONCACAF, it makes a better competition.
1.2. US is organizing a continental competition where the USMNT participates, why doesn't MLS stop their championship while the competition goes on? Just watch and learn with what happens in Europe whenever national teams play.
1.3. The playoff pairings should be done in a way where the 2nd place of a group can only face the 1st place in the finals. Learn with UEFA.
    2. The USMNT coach problem:
2.1. Just look at the premiership in the UK. They always had the players and the money to get them but they only became the best league on the planet when they started getting the best coaches from the world. That completely changed the competition. Coaching staff is very important.
2.2. Get a foreign coach to build the culture. Only after that step is done you may start betting on your own.

Expect to be disrespected by every country you play against and even the ones you don't play against. Expect the worse possible conditions, accommodations, schedule, and anything else that could give you a disadvantage thats in someone else's hands. Then when you overcome all of that you get to watch youtube videos where everyone says you're still no good.
