  • It's time once more for another installment of Stamp Verses Stamp, the monthly collaboration between Snail Mail with Smokey and That Dad Guy. In The Great Stamp Debate, Smokey and Rob face the challenge of selecting a single postage stamp for this month's theme. After sifting through the myriad of stamps produced globally, Smokey and Rob will then present their case for why this solitary stamp deserves a spot in their collection, as well as reasons for its exclusion.
As always, thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing.

Wow! I so pleased you liked my suggestion and I absolutely love the twist you gave it. It made it so much more interesting. Great choice of stamp and great reasons why to collect or not collect it. I also love that the stamps you and Rob chose were so very different and your reasons for and against were also very different. As always, a great collaboration with Rob leading to a fun and interesting video.
Sorry about the phobia. Interestingly, when I was working in Turkey, it seemed that half the people I met were afraid of clowns, so you'd be right at home there. I remember that there was a kindergarten on the way to work there that had a giant clown at the front gate and it looked like something from a horror movie. No wonder they all had a fear of clowns!

Thank you! It was a really great suggestion and one that made us both think. Those people in Turkey sound like smart people, clowns are super scary. Thanks again my friend and have a great day!

LOL. Yeah, leave out stamps / philatelic material that triggers our phobias.... And, as "Bob" the Stamp collector said so well, "Collect what you want and how you want." Thanks for another interesting Philatelic video !

Bob was correct, stamp collecting is about what you and how you choose to collect. Thanks for the wonderful comment!

Oooh what a great video! We shared this fear so I totally relate with the no part. I'm arachnophobic, but I love nature related stamps, so I can totally related with your other arguments. Very enjoyable video! 😊

I sign with both hands under Graham's definition. As a collector, I am constantly fighting with myself to set some limits and slow down my dive down the rabbit hole. The hardest thing is the category: "stamps I just like" - I never know which purchase will escalate into a new topic that I will start collecting maniacally. I have ADHD and a midlife crisis, so you understand that it's not easy (did I mention vinyl records, comics and Masters of the Universe action figures?)
I share your fondness of colourful, cartoon stamps and I must say that clown puppet freaks me inside out... I'm a huge Muppet fan but stiff, wooden puppets don't talk to me... So a wooden puppet of clown is a bit too much for me so I fully empathize with you on that field.

Great comment! I totally understand what you are saying, there have been times when stamps I like have become a new theme of collecting for me. I also agree with you on the Muppets, I love the Muppets!

Dear Smokey, I think it's more than funny that you chose this particular stamp! I think the Orange Clown stamp is really great and would love to have it in my collection 🤩
Why? Because orange is my favorite color and because I collect clown stamps, as they are not very common.
I also find the phenomenon of clown phobia very interesting and exciting, sorry for those who have one. Is it like a fear of spiders?
It's a good thing that everyone prefers a different collecting area, otherwise it would be boring 🥱
Thank you for your interesting explanation!

You are correct, A fear of clowns is just like a fear of spiders. I agree that a great thing about the hobby is that we all have our own tastes and interests and that is what makes each collection unique. I am happy you enjoyed the video.

This was a great video which I really enjoyed! I laughed so much at the unfolding of the clown story and how you became aware of your clown phobia. I wonder how it was triggered. It indeed is a beautiful and bright stamp, and I actually like clowns. 😊Thanks for video, Smokey. I really enjoy these collaborations between you and Rob!!!

Hi Smokey) I watched your video and Rob's video. This is the first time I've seen a Stamp VS Stamp. and I thought you were choosing the same postage stamp for both videos. and it would be interesting to see if your arguments match))) but videos with different postage stamps are also interesting)

I laughed so loud, watching this on my phone outside, the neighbors probably think I’m nuts, but I did not expect it to be a clown. I don’t think I have a phobia, but I hate them enough that my younger brother has found it very amusing to gift my one from Circe de sole for Xmas, and recently, (secretly) seat belted a marionette clown in the back seat of my car. That isn’t funny and could have caused an accident if I had caught it in my rear view while driving. I grew up in Elkhorn, WI. Very near Delavan …which famously was responsible for the U.S. clown stamp. There is a wall mural downtown which portrays it.
Fun topic for this episode 😊
When u were talking about wanting to collect one thing, it made me think about skunks 🦨 on stamps. I have a pet skunk, Milly. She’s the love of my life, but there are so few stamps w/ skunks. Chili had one in the ‘40’s. Canada had one ( bought a block of 4 at the last stamp show)…but hardly any others that I know of🫤

I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. Thankfully no one in my family has decided to gift me clowns. How awesome that you have a pet skunk! I don't know if I have ever seen a stamp with a skunk on it but now I am going to research them. Thanks for watching!
