What I like about this boss fight is that at the start of the fight, you can see your player pull out his nail offensively, like a way of saying, "Come at me", which I think is pretty dope.
**Beats one** Me: Hell yeah! If I keep going like this, the other two will be a piece of cake! Remaining two Mantis Lords: **Attacks at the same time** Me: Aww, come on!!
a tip for anyone trying to do this: if you need to recover health before the second phase, there’s a pause between the two phases that’ll give you time to recover a decent amount of health before the second phase. also, during the second phase, if both mantises throw their boomerangs in the center and there’s space to stand under them, that’s a good time to heal too.
i adore the detail that once you beat the boss, all the Mantises in the area bow to you in honour and let you pass rather than attacking, as if you’ve earned their collective respect for challenging their lords and winning and you now have the right to move through the area unharmed
For those who think the fight is too hard or need help, the fight is optional(in my opinion) for your early game. Because, Deepnest is right after. Explore the kingdom more, nail upgrades help a lot. I used quick focus, long nail, and steady body for my fight. Beat them in less than 4 minutes.
Sega Dreams the City of Tears is where you get your upgrades !! One way is through forgotten crossroads. I’m not sure of any other way in as i haven’t played in a good bit. Look up how to get to City of Tears
If you time it, you can also do a LOT of down slashes when they dash under you. When you're fighting two of them you can hit both at once when they both dash.
Honestly this is the only channel that's seriously helped me with the game. Without the soul master video I probably wouldn't have ever beat it. And before this I couldn't get past the first lord because of the boomerang attack, but I think I can properly dodge it now, so thanks a lot.

They are challenging but the attacks are very clearly presented before they strike. You just have to be very patient, then they are actually pretty easy. The second phase can just be a little overwhelming because you have to dodge two of them and they don't always perform the same attacks. Dodge rather than attacking! Also, if you have the Great Slash nailart the first phase can be done much quicker. If you charge it again right away after hitting him the next slash will be ready when he is open for another hit. The Great Slash does 2.5x damage so it's faster than hitting him twice with regular strikes :) When they do their dual boomerang attack during the second phase you have enough time to heal at least once through focussing. Use that to keep your health up as they perform these attacks fairly often during the fight. You also get enough soul to do that because you habe two targets to hit. It's a difficult fight but once you figure out how they work it's a ton of fun and really rewarding when you beat them!
took me 5 or 6 attempts, but it was a good tactic. May I also add staying at around 1/3 from the left or right side of the floor makes dodging almost all attacks but one fairly easy if you need to heal and you have mantis claw, wall jump to the top and wait - at least 1 mantis lord goes up there and you can heal while theeir blade is spinning VERY far from reach
I just expected a video of it, I didn't expect a full-blown explanation, thanks so much! I knew the patterns thanks to the first phase (which I can do no problem) but I couldn't tell what was going on in the second
I tried to beat these guys so many times and It wasn't until I equipped the dream shield that I managed to do it. It also gave me time to focus heal if I did take hits.
Bruh just use baldur shell it’s an shield all around you and can take 2-3 hits instead of one and it gives you back soul if you get hurt during the focus💀

If you want to heal in this fight, walljump to the top of the wall. Once the Mantis shows up, quickly drop down and get a heal off. It works because the ranged projectile can't hit you since you already kited it.
Small note for phase 2 on double boomerangs. The moment you see them jump up there, you have enough time to charge up 1 heal, then stand/dash away after. Also, audio on video seems to have desynced after a few years now.
The mantis lords are my favorite fight so far, but I do want to point out that you said he/him. All three mantis lords are sisters, but since you're more gameplay rather than story it's not a big deal. Great video, very helpful.
You can safely heal during the boomerang attack in the second phase, during if it is the one where you do not need to jump and when it just ending which is the one where you need to jump. Being patient and not risking for double hits also helps alot. The fight is piss easy in the last phase when one is left, considering you would've gotten used to double that in the second phase.

thankyou mate, I finally beat the mantis lord. although if I can add more tips, it is to heal when the lord do a boomerang attack, use shield charm and the spore charm. it really makes thing easier.
Another tip since I don’t see it: if you need to heal during the first phase (you may be doomed already then but just in case) then wall jump to near the top and wait for the Mantis Lord to use the boomerang attack. Then you can drop back down to the platform and use one focus. Edit: You can also use focus during the attack in the second phase where you need to stay in the center. There’s plenty of time even without the quick focus charm.
Never understood why people had problem with this boss. I thought their pattern was so easy to get used to and beat it in like 3rd try. Spent 3 hours on nightmare king Grimm tho :D.
@@sungleong just upgrade your nail and this fight becomes so easy and since it's true that this boss is fast and you have no time to heal, you can spam the soul projectile while the Mantis are on the wall
Watching out for the second mantis really was a great tip. Being cautious after the first mantis' attack (by sometimes not even attacking it) made the fight so much easier, idk why I never thought about it myself. Guess I kept getting overwhelmed lol
They don't have the patience to learn. I think an average gamer needs 3-4 times to pass it. no need for a guide, when I beat them it took 3 tries and I did not even know you could downslash back then!
The thing is that the walk to the boss is too long. If the developers would put a bench next to every boss, then less people would struggle with it. The time it takes to get back to a boss could easily be spent on learning the patterns without any interruption in between.
@@hfcred6754 It takes me like 45 seconds to get back there and thats being extremely generous. I dont think it's too far away at all, unless youre stopping to kill enemies on the way
I wasn’t specifically talking about the Mantis Lords but they have that problem as well. Those 50 seconds or so you take to get to the fight could easily be used to practice patterns, if you’re not a very good player and it takes you around 10 tries to beat then that’s almost 10 minutes of time wasted just walking.
I like to heal after jumping over the lower boomerang attacks in the first (gives you just enough time to go up one if you’re quick enough) and then sometimes you can heal during the second phase boomerang attacks when the boomerangs do the thing where they stay in the middle and then split off
Thanks! I was kinda stuck on double boomerang part, even though first phase boomerang even allowed me to heal a couple of masks (with quick focus) during one attack.
I don't know if he said this already but heres a tip I discovered In the second phase where they do the boomerang attack there is a version of the attack where the boomerangs will both collide in the middle then go outwards. If this happens go to the middle and begin healing this will lower your hit box letting the boomerangs sail right over you while you get some time to heal. Nevermind they sail over you anyway.
Thank you for the video. Its really helpful! I finally beat them ; A ; I tried so many times > □ < because the bench in Mantis village was inaccessible to me at the time (thanks to a certain mean mean mean mantis), I had to pogo-jump on the mushrooms again and again and again and it literally drove me crazy ._. (I just can't get better at pogo-jumping...) Enough ranting, erm... for pple who are curious about my progress at the time, I had 6 masks and got long nail, stalwart shell and baldur shell equipped. Baldur Shell really helped me heal during phase 2 while the lords were hanging on the wall. Hope that this can help. Again, if sb like me can do it, you can as well! Fighting!
Took 10 tries and i finally did it, but here are extra tips One of the comments below mentioned you can bounce when they throw a boomerang at you and yes i will confirm that and it helped me a lot The second thing is after you beat the first phase you have a few seconds to heal if you need to (i managed to heal 3 mask) And lastly when it does the ground pound the second phase they stay there longer an. you can accidentally walk into them and they kinda home in on you instead of going down a straight lind
Tried this for about an hour now before finally pulling up the guide. I was at a point where I could dodge the first phase, but often misjudged wether the boomerang was high or low. Pair that with not knowing when to attack or heal and you have a very painful and slow death lmao That being said, I think I'll be fine now so thank you!!
When they dash towards you in the ground u can also hit them with the downslash. Also u can heal in one of the second phases boomerang attacks but dont get too greedy you cant heal more than one mask
In the 2nd phase when there is 2, if the boomerangs hover in the middle run to the side then when they start separating jump to the middle. If you stand in the middle its much harder to stand where they wont hit

For it was the hardest early game battle and was so annoying, I hated those Mantis so much and I still hate them.
i did it on my second try with no help, but holy shit this fight is scary at first lol
Thank you!! Ill give it a try!!
Spent 3 hours on nightmare king Grimm tho :D.
jalle88 the pattern is easy to read but they move so quickly and one wrong or badly timed move and youre hit
@@flamepool5309 yeah, not to mention it is a long ass boss fight, and they are fucking fast and you don't really have time to heal in second phase
Staying relaxed and not giving up helps more than this entire guide
Seriously, I though this fight was easy. I can believe people are actually struggling with it?
Those 50 seconds or so you take to get to the fight could easily be used to practice patterns, if you’re not a very good player and it takes you around 10 tries to beat then that’s almost 10 minutes of time wasted just walking.
why are you watching this if you find it sooooo "easy"
He!? Did you just assume their gender??
Lol they are females.
You made it look so easy!!!! I tried that boss fight, like, 15 times in a row, and I still haven't beaten it!
Dude, I’ve been trying to kill the mantis lords for AGES! After your video? Took me exactly 3 tries. Thanks! Now I can sleep again!
I'm trying this for days. I have a feeling I'll pass it tomorrow!
Did it second try with your guide. Easy peasy :D
OH MY GOD THANK YOU. I was always getting hit by the boomerang things then I got to the second stage after this video first try
Also it's possible to heal in battle, at least in phase 1. Just heal after dodging his boomerang attack if u were on the same side as him
You made it look so easy. It moved so much faster when I tried it.
I don't know if he said this already but heres a tip I discovered
In the second phase where they do the boomerang attack there is a version of the attack where the boomerangs will both collide in the middle then go outwards. If this happens go to the middle and begin healing this will lower your hit box letting the boomerangs sail right over you while you get some time to heal.
Nevermind they sail over you anyway.
Thank you so much!
BYE U MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY. and by the time i get to this fight i’m already beat up because everyone becoming AT ME
Thank you for the video. (I just can't get better at pogo-jumping...)
Enough ranting, erm... for pple who are curious about my progress at the time, I had 6 masks and got long nail, stalwart shell and baldur shell equipped. Baldur Shell really helped me heal during phase 2 while the lords were hanging on the wall. Hope that this can help.
Again, if sb like me can do it, you can as well! Fighting!
Thanks for help!
Took 10 tries and i finally did it, but here are extra tips
One of the comments below mentioned you can bounce when they throw a boomerang at you and yes i will confirm that and it helped me a lot
The second thing is after you beat the first phase you have a few seconds to heal if you need to (i managed to heal 3 mask)
And lastly when it does the ground pound the second phase they stay there longer an. you can accidentally walk into them and they kinda home in on you instead of going down a straight lind
Tried this for about an hour now before finally pulling up the guide. I was at a point where I could dodge the first phase, but often misjudged wether the boomerang was high or low. Pair that with not knowing when to attack or heal and you have a very painful and slow death lmao
That being said, I think I'll be fine now so thank you!!
Just started playing this did u upgrade ur nail before fighting them?
Quick tip: you can get a single heart of heal in after dodging the boomerang in the first phase. Not sure about the second one though
When they dash towards you in the ground u can also hit them with the downslash. Also u can heal in one of the second phases boomerang attacks but dont get too greedy you cant heal more than one mask
This fight was awesome it trains you to go fast for next bosses I actually beaten the first one but when 2 of them stand up I die XD
Thank you because of you I actually finally defeated the boss
In the 2nd phase when there is 2, if the boomerangs hover in the middle run to the side then when they start separating jump to the middle. If you stand in the middle its much harder to stand where they wont hit
