    Matt is out here breaking hearts with the "maybe it's not the shoe for you." On a serious note, thanks for the block about looking to see if a plate is lining up with you. It confirmed some suspicions I have had with two shoes in particular (Metaspeed Sky+ and Boston 12) where I would come back beat up (shin pain, knee pain, foot pain, etc) from any run in those shoes and be fine the next day in something else. Changing sizes solved it so I figured it was where the plate was lining up for me. Great and informative video, thanks

    Altra, Topo, Xero make shoes with a wider toebox, but the shoes are not necessarily wider at the forefoot (at the base of the toes). In fact, Xero toe boxes are a bit tapered and their width is considered narrow compared to other minimalist shoes.
    I feel that the regular Topo is wider at the forefoot compared to Altra but they are narrower in the midfoot at heel.
    To sum up, wide toexbox doesn’t equate to wide shoes

    Do you think there’s a benefit for non foot shaped shoes?(aka shoes with a forefoot taper that squeezes the toes) Also why are lots of running shoes not foot shaped?(yes I know shoes are more accommodating than they used to be) I’ve always wondered why running and other performance sport shoes aren’t toe shaped.

    mind blown, this helped me gain a fuller understanding. Thank you so much for sharing this information. Ive been a too big shoe size to compensate for the lack of width but have overdone it I now realize. Again, very grateful man

    Recommendations for someone with a narrow and long foot? I’m always tempted to size down to make a shoe fit less sloppy, but I have the black toenail to prove I really need the length. I’m women’s size 10 and A to 2A width depending on store measuring. It’s so hard to find shoes in a narrow width

    We definitely still use the Brannock at RUNdetroit! I even have a favorite (old) one that sort of has the numbers worn off that one of the owners keeps trying to hide, but I swear it’s more accurate than the new ones 😂

      We also still use a Brannock at my store. I find it more accurate than most of the foot scanners. Most people don't even know what it is called. They just call it the measure thingy.

    Extremely helpful. I started curling my toes for some reason and ended up with PF and then post Tib( also caused by over pronation despite orthotics).
    If a forefoot rocker takes pressure off the ankle, does it do the same in a low drop shoe like a Hoka? Since low drop causes more ankle dorsiflexion.

    I have high volume feet. At fleet feet, one foot is barely over the line from normal to wide and the other is normal but my foot is fat. So midfoot is a problem like the ASICS Novablast 4. Feels good but haven’t bought them yet because I’m worried that the volume of my foot is too high because they were tight.

    I usually wear size cm27 but varies depending on the brand, sometimes I would go 1/2 size up. My left foot is wider than the right, now I consider to purchase Saucony endorphin pro 4 online but confuse to decide which size should I go to either cm27 or cm27,5. I heard that that shoes has narrow toebox.

    great video. thanks! i've been wanting to find a pair of the Xero minimalist shoes that are the best fit. I wear a 10.5 dress shoe; some of the Xeros feel a little big at 10.5, but i sometimes wonder if 11s are the best, especially if i'm going to be running with them and wearing them a lot. What's the best way to decide if a shoe right in terms of the back part--1/2 inch? 2 fingers in the back? thanks!

    What if your foot doesn't stay centered to the shoe? I don't know why but for me after walking a bit my foot angles outward in the shoe where I have extra space along my big toes but my other toes cram along the lateral side of the shoe? I don't know if this is fit, gait or something else causing this. Suggestions?

    I was disappointed as I was watching this video with great interest as I am in a bit of a pickle deciding on sizes right now. I was expecting from a 30 minute video to show some examples, of good fits, bad fits, how many cm your feet are and what size is your go to for your feet.... I find it pretty bad that in a video called "how should running shoes fit" and this lengthy to have such basic things missing. You could have shown us how that Salomon shoe looks on your foot that is too long, or where the metatarsals should be in racing shoe or any shoe with a rocker, so the rocker works correctly.... You talked that is important for the rocker to work correctly but never showed where your metatarsals should be in the shoe for that to happen.

      I think that he covered some of the areas that you are complaining about: for instance:where metatarsal pads are generally located in a shoe but as he stated, everyone is not the same so it's hard to cover every single person and shoe. The other thing about how shows fit, a good fit, a bad fit, etc . That's basically impossible. Like the thing about giving medical advice, he can't really go there.

    • @Dzaen2
      @Dzaen2 Před 6 měsíci +3

      @@jameswestmoreland9717You can talk about the general gist, what works most of the time, or at the very least show how it works for you. Exceptions will always exist ofc but what I said above wasn't rocket science for podiatry. Just that I would have liked the very basic fitting stuff with examples shown in the vid.

      I think that you are being g unrealistic. Wanting them to go thru maybe hundreds of running shoes and talk about fit in each one. And fit for who.
      I understand your frustration in some ways because shoe fit is a big issue. I don't know how many times I heard the "fits is true to size" only to get the shoe and find its not even close.

      @@jameswestmoreland9717 Hundreds of shoes? I said some examples, meaning for some of the shoes he showed on the video to show them while wearing them. So as to demonstrate what he considers a good fit, a bad fit, that's like 2-3 shoes.

    • @DoctorsofRunning
      @DoctorsofRunning  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Yes definitely!! Too early and your knee will pitch forward quicker, which in some people can stress the patellar tendon/ligament. To late and some people will hyperextend a bit
