    I think most of us Salomon loyals had a pair of Speedcross when we started. You see more Speedcross’s traversing the mall these days, than on the trails..

    I have the new Speedcross 6 and you are spot on with the shortcomings. You should try the new S/Lab Genesis from Salomon. I have found that to be my favorite trail shoe of the last two years. It to me is what the new Speedcross should have been.

    I have run in SC3,4 &5, they are great in fields, mud etc but I have done off road marathons include large sections of tarmac, rocky areas, compact trail they always worked well for me. Yes they can rot on toe creases line if you don't dry them out/clean up but it takes year plus. Since I started clean them and drying out afterwards they last a few years. They too me a well cushioned inovate Talon ! 😁

    Tried a pair of these in the Poldhu 10k yesterday. I'm no expert but they certainly gripped in the water, through puddles, on the muddy coast path, on the road, sand, etc,etc. I probably will invest in a pair.

    I own the speedscross 5s, they seem similar to the SC6. You're spot on about the midsole. I love the SC shoe but you get much more ground feel than advertised which in my opinion is a good thing but, Salomon probably should adjust the description a bit...

  • @BrutalEntity
    @BrutalEntity Před rokem +6

    I've had the Speedcross 4 and now the 5's. My SC4 lasted for only around 250 miles before they came apart around the toe box. Hence I bought the SC5. I've found them much better than the 4's. There were slightly wider at the toe box but apart from that not much changed. I still wear them on the trails now and I'm pretty happy with them. They grip well in the mud and wet. They aren't the most cushioned shoes so it sounds like the SC6 hasn't changed much compared to the previous model, plus they aren't the lightest either. Will I get the SC6.....not sure yet.

  • @brianhutchens4249
    @brianhutchens4249 Před rokem +4

    Personally, I love these shoes. The grip is fantastic. The fit (for me) initially felt too narrow as you described, but once I get strapped into these shoes, they feel like an extension of my foot which translates into much higher confidence on the trail, especially on slippery terrain. They do not hurt my feet and once I have them on, I forget they are there (which is a very good thing). I have run with these in snow and mud so far (my feet do tend to get cold in the snow with these shoes). Waiting to see how these hold up over time. I would not wear them on extended runs with a lot of pavement. They seem to thrive in dirt and mud. Overall, happy with the SC6.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před rokem +1

      That's great Brian that you've found a shoe that works well for you 👍
      The fit is pretty good on the Speedcross but I still think Salomon need to lower that 10mm heel off set, that's pretty high for a trail shoe these day and it does feel like it's getting in the way to me 🤔
      Thanks for watching 🙏

    I have 2 pairs of speedcross 5 ( wider version) . I loved the grip & does pretty well in wet and muddy condition .The wider toe box is okay for my foot. It still feel on the firmer side . I still struggle to get a good lockdown with the quick lace. I probably won’t buy the speedcross 6 in the near future .

    Had my speedcross 6 WIDE, fr two weeks, about a dozen trail runs…. Have to say the WIDE is welcome room… the high stack height is noticeable, but stable for me, Im 5,10” a 175… love them in the soft wet greasy stuff, works nice on downhills feels confident and stable… probably last one season of trail running for me, then into the pile of soft rubber sole… for day to day walking around .. thanks for the great vids

    SC3’s were my 1st trail shoes. Loved them at the time but would not go back to them now. Current fave is the SLab Pulsar and Pulsar SG. Super light weight, tight Salomon race fit and a bit of cushion! Not cheap but worth the extra over the speedcross.

  • @yalokim5264
    @yalokim5264 Před rokem +1

    Well, it's still my shoe of choice for mud and snow. This is my survival kit for steep a-/descends.
    Yet, I was expecting more from SC no.6.
    High heels 👠? OK, but why not softer? That would reduce the feel of 10mm offset and help me survive the hard road sections.
    I feel that Salomon is releasing so many other lines, just to avoid messing the character of the Speedcross.
    So it sticks firmly ...in the mud section 🤣

    Completely agree. I seem to always have a SC Im my closet. They are great for Canadian winters (snow, not ice. They are horrible on ice) but I struggle using them any other time. The wide models manage to fit my Sasquatch feet quite well. They are perhaps one of the better companies at making the wides very different from the standard (looking at you, Hoka).
    Also: heck yeah to the t-shirt (and cap/hat?).

  • @abigailrodriguez6868
    @abigailrodriguez6868 Před rokem +1

    I got a few blisters on the Mid Met of both feet during my first use today, (5 miles). I guess there’s not a lot of cushion in the sole…to hard. I have been looking for reviews and see if anyone else has the same experience. I am going to give it a second chance, using different socks and probably adding a different insert.

    • @sdemosi
      @sdemosi Před 10 měsíci

      I agree. It didn't much like the ones I tried. It's an iconic shoe but it feels too hard and too narrow. It exacerbated my plantar fasciitis. Salomon has significant resources so I don't quite understand why this shoe isn't evolving much over the years. I guess many people really like it

    Love that tech t-shirt, I want one. What I don't want is that Speedcross, too dame narrow. I had two versions and there uppers torn on both times and not many miles in them. The outsole grip was the only thing I like and the quick lace system. Looking for a better trail shoe now. I think you have this review spot on. Sorry Salomon this is a pass.

  • @SeeChadRun
    @SeeChadRun Před rokem

    I like the new styling/update of the SpeedCross 6, but my major concern is that the midsole is just as stiff and unforgiving as the past models. I have the SpeedCross 5 GTX and I love the upper and outsole for snow running, but just can't get over the stiffness of the midsole. I'm glad that I don't need to use the shoe on hard surfaces.

  • @CyrrusNL
    @CyrrusNL Před rokem +1

    My first trail shoes were the Speedcross 3's. They worked really well for the local terrain but agreed that they're more of a niche shoe for sloppy mud and deep sand.

    @melaniebailey3446 Před rokem

    Perhaps try adding a Boomerang insole? Although I appreciate that a) you shouldn’t have to, and b) there’s only so much that an insole can add to a deficient midsole! I have previously tried the Speedcross 5s, as there are very few trail shoes that offer a wide fit with a higher drop (a useful combo whilst managing an Achilles issue for example), but I agree that the midsole is most definitely lacking in cushioning unfortunately for mixed trail runs.

  • @datsunkuan5599
    @datsunkuan5599 Před rokem +2

    I have the sc6 and due to the drop, its dangerous on wet rocks, big or small. It's like wearing heels slipping off the big rocks & polished roots or twisting ankle on the small rocks. Apart from that, definitely comfy upper and great trip on soft terrain.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před rokem +1

      I totally agree Datsun, the high heel does make the Speedcross feel unstable on certain terrain! I've never understood why Salomon put sure a big off set on the shoe? However the upper does fit really well and it's very comfortable 👍

  • @aaronm6047
    @aaronm6047 Před rokem

    Never actually tried a pair of these. The heel offset has always put me off and I've stuck with hoka and inov8 mostly. Tried lots of salomon gear but not many of thier shoes. I'd love a t-shirt in a size small and also a cap if you're getting any more of those 👍🏻😊

  • @Odminey
    @Odminey Před rokem

    I just tried these for the first time today, and I'm a little underwhelmed. I am used to running in ASICS Gel Sonoma, I got through several pairs of those, and now my size is just out of stock everywhere, so I decided to give these Salomons a try. I've used lots of Salomons for hiking previously, so I thought their trail running shoes would fit me well. Anyway, I felt a little insecure around the heel, even though I'm certain that it's the correct size, because they fit perfectly everywhere else. It's difficult to tie them consistently. They either feel too loose or too tight, I had to stop and redo the laces a few times during my short run. I hope I will figure it out with practice though. The grip is good for my terrain, it's mostly sand, mud and logs. Sections of tarmac were a bit harsh, but I'm not a big fan of bouncy shoes, so I don't think this will be a problem for me.
    I'm more concerned about the heels. I'm not sure if it's the quicklace that I can't figure out, or the upper is too wide for my heel. Anyway, I'll have to test them over a longer distance.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před rokem +1

      I wasn't impressed with the Speedcross when I tested them. The heel off set is way to high for me on a trail shoe and I didn't get on with the lack of cushioning and protection in the midsole 🤔

    Just back from the Langdale horseshoe where I slipped on wet rock wearing these and hit my head. I got away without concussion or stitches. It was their first outing on wet rock and they are absolutely lethal. Do Not buy these and expect to use them safely on the fells. Fine for cross country I suppose. I’ve had the 3 and 5 before. Somehow it feels that the Contagrip rubber compound is harder, hence dangerous. The lugs actually break off. Back in the box with some Langdale bog. Time to change the brand .
