    A bit of my effort in reducing the use of plastic bags.
    In this video I tried to show how to Crochet with Grocery Poly bags and how we can re-use poly bags to make a bag for life and can avoid buying poly bags from grocery stores.
    We can convert poly bags in PLARN (Plastic Yarn) and can make a stylish, beautiful looking and sturdy bag for life using these Polythenes.
    With a little effort and no extra cost we can make this beautiful looking (& ever lasting) bag and can pay our part in saving mother earth. :-)
    If you love doing Crochet, you can make a elegant Crochet bag for yourself using my step by step tutorial:

    Tip: if you are wanting to take up less time you can always use a bigger hook (instrument to crochet the piece) and do triple or double crochet

      Half-double is good too. I always feel like I’m getting more done faster (pulling through all the loops at once 😊), while still maintaining a thick pattern with the HDC.

      @Marfels Lifel so you don't ever end up with plastic bags. Cool cool but us imperfect mortals do and other than wadding them up under the sink or throwing them away, this gives us an idea to reuse those bags long term.
      Plus I don't know if you've actually tried to reuse an empty plastic bag but they are hard to fill, don't fit back on the metal rack that holds them open, often have holes in the bottom that rip open or end up necessitating a second bag to keep the goods inside, they also tend to break at the handle making it a moot point anyway because you cut the handle off when making plarn and a plastic bag without a handle isn't reusable but by all means continue being a self righteous prick

    I'm totally trying this! I was struggling to find a clear and informative video, and yours also showed how to make the plarn, which helped out a LOT. Other videos were old and low quality, but yours was wonderful! The only thing I found a little confusing is the slip stitch. At the beginning, you referred to chaining as slip stitching. It didn't mess with anything, but I just thought you might want to know! Absolutely love the video, though. Your editing was on point and overall I think everything was very relaxing and helpful. :D

    For several years I crocheted bags using plastic bags and enjoyed mixing colors for various schools, parties and etc. However, there has been a shift in the quality of plastic and nearly most of them are programmed to disintegrate faster. So I now make bags from fabric as my time is a huge factor in sewing /crafting. But it was a worthwhile project before the plastic bags were changed.

    • @howiewill
      @howiewill Před 2 lety +4

      It all depends on how thick or thin you cut your strips or want your “plarn”. The wider the strips are the bigger hook you’ll need. You can play around with strip sizes and hooks/needles. It is a workout on your hands so you might have to take breaks. Have fun with it.

    This is great! Couple of tips, though. Get sharper scissors, there’s a quicker way of joining loops, and what you call slip stitches are actually chain stitches. Also, you’re tightening your stitches too much. Loosen up a little. 😊

      Hey Mahad, Thank you for your kind words😊. In 5th row, I put an extra stitch in each corner making 4 stitches increase in total. By adding an extra stich at each corner, it gives a bit more width to bag making it more curvy rather than just cylindrical.
      This is an optional step, if you don’t do it, you’ll get a cylindrical looking bag.

    • @casa5080
      @casa5080 Před 10 měsíci

      Using the loops is sturdier than one continuous strand. If you do not plan on the plarn holding weight, like in a bag like this, you can use the single strand all you like! The loops provide stability and structure. If you twist the loops into pline (plastic twine), that is the MOST sturdy.

    it's wonderful that you are not bringing more plastic to your home and using recycled carry bag.

    Does the bag not stretch badly after a lot of uses?

      No dear Leandra, it’s so strong that is like a bag for life :-) . Surely but every object has a tensile strength.

    Thanks to my random 12am energy and braincells for searching this up. Our house is full of plastic bags and we have no idea what else to use it with except for trashbags. Also as a nature enthusiast I love this project imma do this even though I have no experience with crochet whatsoever.

    Is there a way to do this on a loom? I’m super intimidated by crochet and knitting.

      Hey Chole, sorry to know that - seems your stitches are tight. Try with loose hands or a one size bigger hook. That should help.

    The only thing I would question, is why did you use cotton for the handles? It harbours bacteria, and can't be washed in this application. Otherwise, awesome use of plastic bags!

      Hey, thank you. Yeah agreed to your farsightedness. I mainly used cotton for handles so that it’s soft on hands while picking up loads of groceries :-)

      @@WhizzyCraftsByNaina Yes, that makes lots of sense. Keep up the good work! We don’t reuse nearly enough plastic!
