  • Gardening is hard work! All that lifting, bending and twisting can really take a toll on a body that's not ready for it. So I partnered with my dear friend Toni Moran (she's trained Olympic athletes) to give you some exercises that you can start doing right now. No gym required!
My goal is to garden for the rest of my life and I believe that by maintaining my strength and lifting properly, I'll be able to do it as injury free as possible. Everything we share here can be done in the comfort of your home.
Just be sure to clear it with your doctor first!
Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.
If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and if you'd like to see more garden content from a DIY gardener, click the bell to subscribe. That way, you'll never miss a post.
As always, thanks for your support and I'll see you in the garden!

During gardening my mother tripped on a big citrus tree root protruding above the soil years ago, and broke her arm. Physical resilience and balance is important stuff!

I use to love stretching, when I was in shape! I have many bands of colors with all the therapies I've been through. This was great. Thank you Toni and Heather. Excellent info!! Where's my print outs? 😆

Hi Gina! We've accumulated "many bands of colors" too as we've navigated sports-related injuries over the years. Thanks for watching!!!

Love it!! Great exercises, stretches, and reminders to use proper form - while working out and while gardening (which can be a workout in itself!) Thank you!!

Such a great video! This is the first video of this type thank you! I have really bad spine issues. I've had one surgery on my lower back and about to get my neck fused. So i have had to learn the hard way how I can garden. Ive spent many years pushing through the pain just to hurt myself worse. Bless you and I hope to see many more of these types of videos! Happy gardening❤ (ps...i told the dr he needed to do my surgery asap because my last frost date is May 18th 😅)

I'm so sorry you've had so much pain and I hope it's eased up for you. I love that you based your surgery on the last frost date. Sounds like something I would do! Please don't hesitate to toss out ideas for future videos. Would love to hear what you have in mind! And thanks so much for watching!
