Poi Corkscrew Tutorial

  • Learn my favorite horizontal poi trick of all time: the corkscrew! Horizontal plane poi moves can be rather rare, but this poi trick is a rite of passage! It has a lot in common with both the weaves and reels that we've learned in past weeks but the trick is you have to keep the poi spinning parallel to the floor the entire time. I'll show you step by step how to do this and you'd better believe it's finding its way into a poi combo sooner rather than later!

    Thank you so so much for making these videos! I just picked up veil poi less than a week ago and there's no one on here I've found that has as much helpful content as you! I've already got a 3 beat weave and the reel turns! Please keep doing this amazing thing! And thank you again!

      Thank you so much for saying so! Great job getting down all those basics! Keep watching the tutorials and I'll keep making them 😉

    I am so grateful to have him on by my side during my flow journey! Besides the tutorials and explanations, the sheer spirit and positive vibes help me keep my mind alive when I spin! Forever a fan!

    I started learning this because I will be darned if I don't learn spiral wraps, and this seems to be a prerequisite. Thanks for helping me re-visit this and learn it properly!

    I happen to be 3.5 years in to spinning poi (on almost a daily basis, half hour+) and I still haven't learned this trick. I am thankful that you revisited what some might consider a basic / simple / not-so-useful(?) trick in order to encourage me (and hopefully others) to learn it. Been following your channel for years now and rarely turn elsewhere to learn something new. Keep up the good work- it's greatly appreciated!

      For me, it's a little the opposite ^^" I always found the corkscrew a bit boring and thanks to Drex I'm starting to see that you can do really cool things with it and I should play around with it more. So I join in with all my heart: Keep up the good work, Drex- it's greatly appreciated! :D

      Yay! That's so great to hear--I definitely was sleeping on these for several years as well and I'm really hoping more people get into more horizontal moves in the coming years!

    I could do this but I feel I have a better understanding. I messed around with the bottom of the screw being on each side of the body and turning while the poi are above my head. Would love to learn the 4 beat corck screw as I cant get my head around it. Keep up the work. You are keeping a lot of people sane in the dark times

    I just realized, I have been doing something else the entire time without realizing it. I switched up the sides each hand circles the head with. This is actually like a horizontal windmill. The real corkscrew isn't, since it circles the head the same direction. Or am I wrong?

    • @DrexFactor
      @DrexFactor  Před rokem

      It should be like a horizontal windmill (the way I was first taught to do a windmill was actually to do a corkscrew, lean my head over into it, and shift both up to vertical planes). There is a horizontal move in which the poi are spinning in opposite directions rather than the same direction, but I’ve never heard of a name for it.

      @Bronchipret84 Před rokem +1

      @@DrexFactor Yeah, sorry. When I just tried it out I realized that I have been doing it mirror-inverted, that's why it felt so weird. Sorry for the confusion. I learnt the corkscrew in a couple of minutes and to this day I can't believe I am doing it right. 😅Usually I need a couple of days, sometimes weeks to figure out a new move and this happened so fast that it had me totally confused. 🙈
