This can be good or bad, depending on the kid; some will work hard, graduate, get a trade or college to take care of Mom. Others will start making money earlier in illegal ways. it's a damn hard way to live, and she's past worry, and feels she has no ability to change her circumstances. She should qualify for WIC, wonder if she applied?

That doesn't work. State-level politicians receive relatively low pay (not minimum wage level of course), but all that has lead to is their ranks being filled with rich businessman who can afford to do legislating as a sort of hobby and often fundraise their own campaigns (and make laws that suit the interests of themselves at the expense of the rest of us). You need publicly financed elections and a fundamental overhaul of the lobbying/legalized bribery that dominates the political process to get real change. Constitutional amendment-level overhaul because the corporatist Supreme Court justices were literally appointed _because_ of their willingness to enable/legitimize the bribery, so they'll gut most federal laws meant to change things.
Saddest part about it all is politicians decide their own salaries and also decide when they “deserve” a pay raise
Most of the politicians with offices are given a budget higher than the average American salary, SOLEY for furniture. And they get it every year.

I think this nation doesn't do enough for prevention of unwanted pregnancies with its youth, something European countries do right.
I make $16 an hour and that still isn’t enough, and what sucks the most out of it is that the government claims that I make too much to receive assistance such as housing or WIC/Stamps. I have a two year old daughter and in a month we’ll be bound to be homeless due to the whole renting progress being broken as well. I cannot get into a place without somebody telling me that I need a co-applicant, but I don’t have anybody. I don’t care if I have to live in a studio apartment, I just want the best life for my daughter that’s not in a shelter.

That's true for a lot of families. Plenty of stay at home moms until kindergarten because they won't earn enough working to pay for the child care. That's with a second income of course. Single parents or anyone on assistance of course has to follow the rules set by politicians who are convinced everyone is out to game the system. They need her to "prove" she earned the assistance by working, never mind that it makes zero financial sense. She doesn't work she won't qualify for any of the programs, so she works, costing the government more money.

When I have a child, I will inform them that being a social media star or an influencer is not a real job. If they like the camera, I will arrange for acting lessons so they can become a legitimate actor, or work in broadcast journalism or something along those lines. The day is coming when these platforms will be demonetized (Tik Tok, CZcams, whatever else is out there) and brands will come to realize that partnering with these "influencers" is hurting their bottom line (well, that and the fact that their products are of cheap quality, vastly overpriced and produced via child slave labor in places like Guatemala). I'm 27, making $75k a year (soon to be 90k) own a home in a good neighborhood, no car payment, no kids, and have a 401k yet still feel like everyone else is making more and has more. I can only imagine how these people feel. Puts things in perspective.

I don't know what I think about situations like this. At first you want to criticize and say "don't do this" "don't do that". I have been lucky, but I came from very little. I was also fairly smart, but I worked hard in school and got a doctorate. I'm not sure why some people fail to see the importance of school and others are lifted out by gifts, luck, or opportunity. It's unfornately the reality we live in. If we make it easier to be lazy then more people will be lazy. If we make it harder than we are failing as a society.

I was in her position and I was homeless many times. In the end...I moved back in with my parents and went to the career center and got a good job. I never stopped striving for a better career.
My parents both worked minimum wage job so that my siblings and I can have a better life. Now we are all pretty successful in our career thanks to my parents. It was very difficult for my parents to raise us, so i cannot image what she is going through as a single mother.

This is NOT a representation of working for $7.50 an hour it's a representation of somebody working PART TIME making 7.50. Grew up dirt poor. Had no one but my parents. Both my parents worked retail jobs at the mall. They always told me to study hard and stay in school, to stay away from drugs and make friends with the right people. I listened to EVERYTHING they told, and I'm glad I did.
When I got old enough, I started working to help my parents out with bills. We couldn't afford a car, so we took the bus everywhere. I used to stay up until 3a.m doing homework and sleep about 4 hours. High school was hell for me, but I was the first in my family to graduate.
Couldn't afford university, so I went to my local community college. Fell in love with Biology and decided to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse. Took me 5 - almost 6 years to complete my Associates Degree because I had to work 2 jobs just to support myself and my parents. Now, after 26 years of busting my ass, it's all paid off.
Currently a Registered Nurse, making close to 70k a year. Saving money to attend university and complete my BS to further my career. Nothing was handed to me. I worked my ass off for everything.
It pisses me off when people like this woman here, who makes all these shitty choices, then expect other hard working people to help them out because they're too damn lazy to get an education. I grew up with nothing. Now look at me. I started from the bottom. You make the bed you sleep in. Listen to parents. Stay in school. Don't have kids until you have a career. minimum wage is for kids going to college until they are done and are able to get a better job , it is not ment to raise a family , this is why we must show our kids that they need to better them selves before starting a family , be able to pay for child care , food , rent , and insurance , if not you fall into this type of situation on foodstamps housing assistance childs assistance , and once you fall in its is one of the hardest things to come out of it could take generations or never happen, but the youth doesnt listen as didnt i and had to learned the hard way ,

I made that at my first job at a grocery store and I can attest to the fact that it’s nothing. I didn’t even have bills at the time, I just lived at home. I can’t imagine the stress of trying to support yourself and a child on this amount of pay. Our system is so broken and it breaks my heart. I hope they paid her well for this interview and I hope she and her child are doing better now. I wish we could get an update. Also social programs are a lifesaver, we need more of them in this country.
I didn't even know places gave that little of hours even at part time. At the very least she could find a job paying a little more, even $10 an hour isn't hard to find and would increase her income a lot.

I worked as an IT guy for a home care agency for awhile.. and I ended up learning how they do their scheduling and doing payroll.. today I'm one of the managers( not bragging) .. if it wasn't for me willing to learn stuff I had no business learning I wouldn't be here or improved my situation.
