    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    My second Broadway show was Mame with Jane Morgan. I was a mere teen at the time. Fantastic performance.

    The lovely and talented Jane Morgan is now 99 years old. She has had an extraordinary career and life. Google has images of her in 2011 when she received her Star in Hollywood. She looked great.

    Angela's role Forever...but I would've Loved to see Judy Garland do a version!😍💯

      She would have been phenomenal. Jerry Herman himself was campaigning for the producers to hire her to replace Angela Lansbury (which she very much wanted to do), but they sadly but probably wisely told him that they could not entrust her to do eight performances a week.

      They should have given Garland a 3 month run with an alternate doing the matinees. And then they could have kept extending her contract if all went well. Maybe it would have changed her trajectory, and she might have been around to do the movie. ❤ Jane Morgan is fabulous in this clip. 👏

      I am also a fan of the theatre.
      I can tell if a girl is theatre trained or classical trained.
      I think I like them both.

    Please give us more of these Broadway ensembles. Request - "Oliver!", featuring future Monkee Davy Jones on February 9, 1964, a show famous for another performance.

    On CZcams there was a segment from the “Danny Kaye variety show” with Caterina Valente. They did this song with dancers. It was great. It is no longer on CZcams.

    Where's Angela

    • @netram28

      Angela left Mame after a year or so. Janis Paige replaced her first, then Jane Morgan. Broadway shows often appeared on Ed Sullivan after they had been running a while and they needed the publicity to boost the box office. Incidentally, Jane Morgan was replaced by Ann Miller who kept the show alive on Broadway into 1970.

    Boy! The costumes and choreography are really bad, looks like a second rate HS production. She's good but doesn't interact with the guests at her party which is something Angela did beautifully.

    • @brucebider
      @brucebider Před 9 měsíci +1

      That is the original Broadway production, only difference being Jane Morgan and some of the other performers, as it was three years into the run. The choreography and the costumes are exactly what was on the stage of the Winter Garden.

      @IHAPPENTOLIKENEWYORK Před 8 měsíci +1

      The sets used here actually are not exactly the same as what was on stage at the Winter Garden in fact they are quite different. Most notably the staircase at the Winter Garden was a large circular one that moved automatically on a track for various scene changes. The set used here is much smaller and was likely an improvised one at The Ed Sullivan Theatre where it was filmed. @@brucebider
