    I’ve got a 2006 Sorento from new , I drive it to Spain every year from the UK , 3 passengers Bike rack on tow bar , fully loaded . We do 1,250 miles in two days . The car is comfortable . It buzzes along at 90 MPH . The only thing that we have had to change was a worn out air pipe , and a solenoid for the air conditioning . I haven’t really taken it of road , but let’s be honest who does . I would highly recommend . Ok it doesn’t have a desirable badge , but trust me , speak to a mechanic who knows his stuff , and he will say these cares are more reliable than a German car , and not as demanding on service’s . That’s why these days they give Kia’s 7 years on the warranty , Nuff said .

    I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa FE LX, it's a V6 with 4WD, the thing is awesome and has really wonderful passing power. It turns on a dime and I have taken it over some really rough terrain, it handles well. The price range was wonderful, I love how it looks but mostly how it drives. I don't feel like I'm driving a truck, but I'm up high and have the power that a truck would have. I'm very excited for winter driving, I can't wait to see how it performs!

    • @davebusink2019
      @davebusink2019 Před 5 lety

      Same here. First year owning a '03 Santa fè. V6 2.7, I think I'll enjoy driving again in the snowing season.

    I've got a 2.5L diesel sorento and the testing they did is nothing comapred to my dirt driveway in the wet season. cost me $400 for springs to give it a 40mm lift, added a pro vent catch can and a 10 micron fuel filter. Really impressed, the low range transfer case has let me drive myself out of a lot of sticky situations. Shame the 3.5L petrol version is such a lemon.

    • @kustu
      @kustu Před 4 lety +1

      Lemon? The 3.5 has so much torque. It isn't very fast but it is a strong engine for sure. The Automatic transmission is probably holding it back anyway. I prefer the manual gearbox.

  • @CRYST2SHELL
    @CRYST2SHELL Před 14 lety +4

    he is REALLY tall. At 5'5" i have no searting issues in my SantaFe. And I lov it. of course, I haven't any need for off roading. But it's a great fam. vid. Plenty of room for road trips. The back is great for luggage or pets. I even moved my uncle out of his 0ne bedroom apt to his new one. the only thing that couldn't be carried by my SantaFe was his sofa. Really comes in handy, especially as a single woman w/ extended family needs

  • @Daracon1010
    @Daracon1010 Před 11 lety +4

    The Kia Sorento has 2x2, 4x4, 4HI and 4LO. I've taken my Kia Sorento 4wd'ing before and it handles pretty well. My dad's Toyota Landcruiser obviously beats the crap out of it, but it can still handle itself quite well.

  • @MrBibo24

    Thanks for the video! Loved seeing the off-road comparison!

  • @mangus7175
    @mangus7175 Před 15 lety +2

    It's a real 4x4 because it has a transfer case which allows you to operate in either 4LO or 4HI but I don't think it comes with a center diff lock or rear locking diff. Definitely something to look for in a 4x4 if you plan on taking it out on some trails.

    • @kustu
      @kustu Před 4 lety

      Sorento has LSD in the rear axle and a locking transfer case

  • @WoZIMoo
    @WoZIMoo Před 13 lety +6

    Funny thing is that the traction control on the Santa Fe slowly and smoothly sends torque to the non-spinning wheels. With the LOCK mode on and traction control, it acts similar to a truck with limited slip differentials, minus the low range of course. Too bad they didn't have TCS in this test because as much as it doesn't seem like an offroader, it has an excellent system, much better than the junk the competition offers.

  • @sn0m0ns
    @sn0m0ns Před 13 lety +5

    Its funny I took my 2002 Santa Fe to the same hill I used to climb with both my Grand Cherokee and Cherokee Sport and not only did it bottum out in the rear it did not have enough torque to get up the hill. Now on the road its a different story, it drives more like a car then an SUV when on road. We had some 20" snow storms this year and it never got stuck once even when I tried to get stuck it had no problem getting out. If they had put a 4LO in and raised it about 2" It would dirt no problem.

    We own a 2020 Santa Fe Ultimate 2.0T. What it doesn’t have is 4wd, trailer hitch and roof cross bars. Otherwise EVERYTHING! The car is perfect as our every day driver. Actually we have to pick between it and our G80 so it depends on what we are up to. Headed to a fine dinner? Drive the Genesis. Headed to load up at Costco? Drive the Santa Fe. We love both cars for each of their capabilities. We had a Rav4 before the Santa Fe and find it is much better for us than the Rav4 was. Safer because it is newer. Anyhow, great well done video.

    @joenmass I know exactly what you mean. I had a Toyota and a Mitsubishi Galant. Didn't think I'd be in a Santa Fe, until we started looking for an SUV as a new(er) car. I looked at all the competition, and since I don't buy cars for their snob value, but rather a combination of looks, performance, comfort & features (I'm big on these) and general maintenance costs + recall/performance issues, the Santa Fe won out! I remember going to "look" at one, and after the test drive, we own it now!

  • @joenmass

    I have a 2007 Hyundai Se that i bought 2 years ago, I never thought I would buy a Hyundai especially after I owned a 1996 Toyota Camry and a 2000 Honda Accord, but after taking one for a test drive I fell in love with it. I never had a problem with my Santa Fe.
    As far as for the Hyundai ney sayers, I remember in the early 1970's (myself included) down playing how inferior Toyota was and how they were junk. How wrong I was.

    Hello! I've had my car for 2 years now, it is awesome in the snow. It's very sturdy, the height is nice if you get a lot of snow, & the 4WD really helps. It all comes down to what type of tires you get. I have Firestone Winterforce tires, which are not expensive but grip really well, I use synthetic oil because it doesn't thicken like regular oil, and just make sure you have a good battery. I have driven it everywhere and I love it more and more every day.

I have a Vw, and i know what its like to go through about with dealer, your right i heard many people having these experiences. i love my Vw but im going too rid of it becuase its expensive too fix. This why im looking into Kia or Hyundai Suv's I just bought a 62 nova, and im either getting back into a sports car or into an SUV. im a student i think a KIA Sportage would do me wonders. and stay economical. The Vw dealer near me is pretty nice but paying for labor is a joke.

    Good review but work needed on the presenting and the background music is awful. Bottom line is if you want an off roader then don't buy either. If you want a cheap reliable car that will cope in the snow and on grass for camping and such like and you're not bothered by badge prestige then this is for you.

    We have tested korean cars (hyundai, kia, daewoo, ssangyong, ...): no worthy buy, because they all have many faults, incl. communications errors, no nice design, non-reliability, no stability, no soft dampering, bad quality-performace-ratio, etc.
