There are many methods of selling cars as employed by the world's vehicle manufacturers. For a long time, Hyundai was committed to one of the most simplistic. Build a big, impressive-looking vehicle and sell it at a low price. Modern Hyundai models have grown a little more sophisticated since then but the Hyundai Santa Fe 4x4 launched in 2006 is a fine example of the marque's old guard. On the used market, it looks like even more car for the money.

My niece has a 2009 Santa Fe with the 3.3L engine. Everything mentioned about this car has pretty much happened to hers. The alternator R&R was the worst. So far, I haven't seen anything conclusive on the oil pressure sender leak. I heard today Hyundai and Kia have a combined 517,000 recalled cars.

I have a 2009 3.3 I bought for 2000$ cad had a few of the mentioned problems which I fixed pretty easily like the fuel gauge sending unit and the horn wasn’t working at all, did some work on the suspension elements and it probably dint cost more than a few hundreds fixing it myself. 322000 km and still going strong

Check into the ignition switch - there’s a few known issues that cause stalls to Santa Fe’s upon coming to a slow down suddenly, but more have talked specifically about when making a turn, in what I learned, if it’s due to the switch, it’s bc the kill engine part gets bent so that one little swipe inside causes the short or signal to disconnect the engine same as if you cut off your key , right ? So, use your intuition to feel out , is the stall more related to the actual turn , or more related to a slow, bc a slow, this is gonna happen some at red lights or sudden stops or slows on a highway and that’s another known issue, AND sometimes the ignition can kill engine at a straight steady speed no turn , but specific to the turns I’ve seen this alot- as I’ve spent the day looking for my issue

If I want a sturdy and reliable 4x4 SUV with the ability to lug around 7 people I'd probably go for a nice Nissan Patrol and run the engine until it inevitably dies and swap it for a Mercedes OM606. It's pricey and unconventional, but it'll last a very long time.

There's no getting around the longevity issues killing Kia/Hyundai engines way before they should die. I want to like these cars because they provide a lot of what you want, but in an all too Russian roulette and cheap package.
They also love to rust in ways that makes repairs a chore.

Interesting. Was looking at a Sorento and the seller informed me the engine died last weekend.

I have a santa fe 2003. I had a crankshaft position sensor fail twice in 2 different engines . It brakes and tangles in the timing belts, destroying the valves and pistons. BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT CAR. i ALSO HAVE 2 HUNDAY SONATAS HYBRIDS. 2013 2014 respectively. Also they brake around 110K to 120K mi. The dealers and the hunday corporate also a terrible experience as far as customer service and honoring warranty when the cars brake down. They never have enough technicians to service our cars and then the ones they have do not know how to diagnose hybrids. Hundays are a real terrifying error to keep buying them. SO DISSAPOINTED. here in nashville tennessee.
