  • Chris King talks us through his personal values when it comes to sustainability and how he translates these into his company.
    King has never sacrificed his environmental commitments for the sake of making a quick buck. To this day, he is still making as many products in-house as possible to control the quality and, importantly, to control the impact it has on the planet. He makes sure that all his parts are serviceable, long-lasting, and in many cases, reconfigurable to ensure their longevity in the ever-changing world of cycling's "industry standard" components. He also looks after his staff and rewards them for taking care of their wellbeing. It is commitments like these that helped lead Chris King Precision Components to become the first company in the cycling industry to become a Certified B Corporation.
    "Profit for us isn't just in money terms, it's the success of the product... in the eyes of the consumer. You already paid for it once, we already paid for it once - collectively as the Earth's inhabitants - why pay for it again?"

    I'm the proud owner of two bikes with Chris King Components on them. One LOOK road bike with a King headset and a Schwinn mountain bike with a King headset and red anodized disc brake hubs. I aspired to own Chris King parts since I was a teen. This is a very cool video. Thanks.

    I needed a drive shell for a '07 disco tec hub. Could not find a replacement listed on their web site, and thought I would have to build a new wheel. Sent an email, and King has the shell in stock. So glad to keep the old wheel set going! Thanks Mr King!

    I own a Litespeed Ultimate from 2006 (!) with a Chris King headset and it runs as smoothly as at its first day.
    Now I am planning the new build of a titanium MTB and wondered if I really should spend that much money on the head set.
    Watched the video: „No disussion, CK i7!“

      Litespeed is for road, no? I'm sure a titanium MTB of similar build quality will last you a good 15yrs+ also! As long as we're moving away from throwaway items, we don't have to feel guilty about new things that help us enjoy the world.

      @@SaddlebackCycling My Litespeed Ultimate is for road, correct. They also have MTBs and I would have preferred to buy one of them as well. Unfortunately Trump and the EU made it very expensive to buy an US bicycle from Europe. Therefore I bought a titanium frame from a small german manufacturer called „Rabbit“.
      Before I had a carbon frame which broke. Exactly out of that reason that the carbon didn‘t survive for 6 years with normal usage I decided to choose a material which is timeless, has longevity and if broken, can be fixed or easily recycled.
      Titanium and Chris King anyway is a perfect fit! 😍

    Friends of mine don't understand why we procure an expensive components such as CK hubs. I saved months to own a pair albeit off set from the sale of the non-boost ones that I had owned of 6 years. With a higher resale value we inadvertently save the environment by keeping the product longer to a bike far long than the main streams ones. I have no qualms where it is made as long as the it is value for money and the environment.

  • @wenisman
    @wenisman Před měsícem

    The issue is the bike industry. The standards change so frequently that within 5-7 years your components are no longer compatible with anything. I have Chris king 1 1/8 headsets, iso hubs (100mm*20, 135mm *10) and they are all in landfill as they aren't compatible with any thing and there's no upgrade path for these old components. So great in theory, but Chris king made the t47 bottom bracket standard when we already had press fit, BSA, and the host of others so he's adding to the waste

    Cool insight, but as has been the norm for too long at Saddleback they never have stock, seems little point in promoting a premium product without inventory back-up, and please don't blame COVID-19 for lack of product support, as a customer it's frustrating.

    • @SaddlebackCycling
      @SaddlebackCycling  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm sorry you feel frustrated with us, Gavin. We would love to have more stock and we strive every day to get more into the UK, but we cannot shy away from the effect COVID-19 has had on both supply and demand. It is not just us that are affected, our suppliers like Chris King are affected, and even the raw material suppliers that they need to create the product in the first place are affected. The whole of the cycling industry is experiencing these problems, not just us. We do hope it will resolve soon, but in the meantime, we shared this video because we believe Chris King deserve the recognition for what they do, whether there is supply or not.
