  • Discovery sport, Ingenium balance shaft fault. replacement of the shafts require an engine removal and heaps of special tools.
it appears that the needle bearings fitted are the cause of the fault im going to mic the bearings surfaces. the races are quite blue'd but i think that might be part of the hardening process

My XE has been making this noise for a few weeks getting progressively worse. Jaguar Assist suspects its this issue, and it does sound exactly like it. Booked in for a dealer visit - thanks for posting to help compare!

The blue color is from the heat treatment in the production

The blue is the factory heat treatment process to harden the shaft surface for the bearing

DPF regeneration excess fuel passing the pistons is causing oil dilution. I bet that's 99% the cause of this failure. Oil is cheap, engines are expensive so change the oil sooner.

I have discovery sport 2.2L diesel 2015 model, I don’t have any noise but the engine shakes like crazy, in idle or sometimes in the highway, when going on a long trip, check the injectors , the engine mounts and EGR, no issue, but can’t find the problem behind the extreme shaking.

Oh no!!! The blue color is from surface treatment, how can you not know this? Its on crankshafts too, and many other parts in an engine.

In the Land Rover service instruction N128 only model years up to (including) 2018 are mentioned as being potentially affected by this problem (I assume same goes for all Jaguar models with Ingenium Diesel). Does that mean that, from MY 2019 on, different balance shafts - or its needle bearings - have been implemented which are less prone to that problem? What exactly changed between
