Very nice explanation and information
I have an XE with the 2.0D ingenium engine, I found out before buying this car new that this was going on…. They said this happens to owners that don’t change the oil often, like only the recommended every21K / 2years…. I hope that by changing the oil every 3000 miles I can avoid this happening in the long run?!? I also put ceratec with every oil change, and drive the car very VERY gentle!
I have an XF with the 2l ingenium diesel, have had the car from new and serviced every 10k miles or year whatever came soonest with flush and additives. my chain is booked to be replaced in a couple weeks because its knackered even though its been properly serviced, its just a fundamental design flaw apparently im afraid. My car is only 5 years old and 75k miles so you might have a while yet but know knows honestly. The upside is good indie garages stock and will fit the uprated chains when they sort it so the problem should'nt come back again and its one more thing to stop worrying about, £2100 though mind.
Is a rattling of just a second when starting the engine still ok/normal?
No rattling after one second, also not when the engine is running/warm…
Thanks 🙏🏻
It’s a shame you didn’t do a video of the actual start up noise so people know what to listen for - because without an actual noise to listen for, how is a normal person meant to know?
I came here for the noise as well..
Thank you so much for explaining all this information. I have the same vehicle. How much does this repair generally cost??
How many more Km you can still drive after this first rattling?
i found an Discovery 2.0 2018 they said the engine has a little rattle does it worth it for 17 k €
How many miles does this engine have?
Hi guys hope someone can help. I have a 2016 Discoverh sport, 81,000. Timing chain just changed now. Should the car last me for another 60k ?
Why is the chain stretching so soon on the Ingenium 2,0 diesel? Is it just poor materials used in the manufacture of the chain? Why are the sprockets wearing down so soon? Poor metalurgy?
Is the chain design on the D300 Ingenium 3.0 diesel engine the same, i.e. does it suffer the same chain stretching issue?
Because Land Rover produce absolute shite.
I have the same problem In the morning rattling but with VELAR 2.0L (ingenium)engine, could tell me if it’s the same problem and which part need replacement.thanks
you'll need all timing chains and guides replaced along with timing chain tensioner.
Hi good video. I'm maybe buying a discovery with 37k on the clock .landrover said they noticed a knocking noise from the engine and have fixed it but concerned o may run into problems. Also is the 3 litre engine more realbile in the discovery's do you know thanks Callum 😊
3 litre just snaps crankshafts
More than 1 sprocket there.😬
I put new chain kit on mine and it ran great for 3500 miles. And now back to rattle on cold start. What do you think can be causing it so quick ?
Did you use genuine parts
@@bigriff28 unlikely to be aftermarket, given how new this engine is, I would have thought... But maybe Land Rover subcontracts the manufacture of all the engine parts anyway, who knows?
@@tempestv8 Hi I ran my own car repair business for 36 years and know that you can buy after market chain kits for the igenium engine.
@@bigriff28do you advise to use only original chain or it is possible to use aftermarket parts? Probably you can advise some aftermarket kits.
Do you have to drain the oil to do the timing chain
yes
Hi how much does it cost to replace it.
3500-5000$ in australia
4500 chf Switzerland 🙄
3200e in germany
I wonder how many of tye owners know this expensive problem even exist. They just drive them
ours is on 160,000kms the only reason i know is because out PTU is leaking between the 2 problems 8800$ to fix
Land Rover Discovery Sport not Range Rover Discovery Sport
Sport doesn't have the 2.0 l
The Discovery Sport is a 2.0 diesel
Modern engines are now being designed by idiots. Chains in the wrong place involving massive strip down and costs. Old designs used duplex chains , in 50 years I have never seen a broken duplex chain , stretched a little , yes , I would not fit some of these simplex chains to my bicycle. Plastic guides that go brittle and fail...How was this not found in the millions of miles of testing ? The same could be said of wet belts....Engineering going backwards.
And some of .the old Yankee V8 flatheads are still running with no problems, no bike chains or rubber belts, just a plain old metal, toothed gear, driving the cam-shaft !
What the hell are Jag/Landrover thinking. Spoiling a great vehicle for a hapworth of tar. Single Chain. 💀👿👿👿👿
There are two chains, but what is odd is choosing to put the chain on the back of the unit so you have to pull the gearbox...
These cars are known for bad engines
i own one, i 100% back this statement
i have to fork out 8grand for an oil leak and timing belt
Shame, I really fancied one. I might go for Volvo XC60 instead then.
