  • Handgun Training Tip That Will 100% Increase your Accuracy.
    Proper Trigger Gap Will Increase your Accuracy.
    Hi guys, John the Firearms Instructor here to talk to you about shooting with a trigger gap.
    There are many different things to think about while shooting and some of them are easier to notice than others. When I teach my classes, a lot of my students struggle with hand placement and using the right amount of pressure. When you hold a pistol, if you're doing it correctly, your dominant hand should have three fingers directly in contact with the firearm with your trigger finger out. Your non-dominant hand should have all four fingers gripping the weapon. The uneven number of fingers on the gun is the reason the grip I train my students with is a slightly uneven one. This makes it easier to hold the gun level. The ratio I use is a 60% - 40% grip, the dominant hand is holding the gun with 40% of the pressure, and the off hand is using 60% of the pressure. If you do this properly it will make holding the gun level significantly easier.

    I’m a lefty and was shooting low right. I figured this out on my own and noticed immediately I was more accurate. I was looking for a video to prove my hypothesis, thank you sir!

    I found that technique works well with most semi-autos I own. However, I do carry a Ruger SP101 with a 10 pound hammer spring and trigger return spring. I mostly practice shooting double action and I need a bit more leverage on the trigger. I feel like I’ve mastered a technique that works well for me. I shoot my 3” Python the same way with really good results.

  • @kodiakkeith
    @kodiakkeith Před 8 měsíci +1

    A simpler way to put this is to just say "use the pad of your index finger to pull the trigger." If your finger is so deep around the trigger that the first joint or even the middle pad of your finger is on the trigger then you haven't been taught properly.

      @Firearms Training By John G. Johnson actually it's a Springfield Hellcat. I own 2 of them and they both shoot poorly. My other guns that I shoot are a Walther PPKS, M+P Shield and a Beretta 84. These guns are all single stacks and the Hellcat is double stack so maybe the grip is too big in my hand?

    • @johnthefirearmsinstructor
      @johnthefirearmsinstructor  Před 10 měsíci

      It could have something to do with where your finger sits on the trigger. Some triggers curve more or less and what you have may not work with your finger. Or you at least haven’t found the spot yet.

    No. No gap. I want as much meat on the grip as I can place. I train into my hand. A loose grip even on an air soft gun. Allows it to shift.
