  • In this video Big Tractor Power is out in the field with two Case IH QUADTRAC tractors planting the 2021 corn crop. This video will take viewers out in the field with and up in the cabs of a Case IH 470 and 620 QUADTRAC. The 470 tractor is preparing the seedbed with a 39ft 9 in Mulch Finisher ahead of the 620 tractor operating a 47 row CASE IH 2160 Early Riser planter.

    Case 580 quadtrac pulling a 50 foot krause soil finisher. Case 535 quadtrac pulling a 70 foot land roller after the soybeans are planted. Johndeere 9400t pulling a kinze 3800 24 row 30 inch planter . Johndeere 4960 pulling a kinze 3600 24 row soybean planter . We have 560 acres of soybeans planted and 200 acres of corn planted but we now have 2 inches of snow so we will have to wait for the ground to dry . Nice video keep up the good work and stay safe!

    Great to see the field work is at least happening in some places. We've already been up to 80 a few times here and now it is snowing lightly here in MI today.

      It’s in the 70s here in Kentucky with most of the corn planted now but it may snow tonight here as well.

    I would have thought the tillage implement would require more power than the planter. Why do they have the 620 HP tractor on the planter, and the 470 on the tiller?

      This farm had three 470 ROWTRACs until last year. Case IH recommends a 620 for the 2160 planter. The 470 is plenty of power for the 2310.

    Looks like they have the implements hooked up to the wrong machines. Looks to me the bigger one needs to be doing tillage.

    Almost seems like you would want the higher HP tractor running the tillage?? Any explanation?

      The 2160 Early Riser is recommend to run the 2160 planter by Case IH. Previously the farm ran 470 ROWTRACs for tillage and planting.

      @@henrylopez5252 that planter pulls harder up the hills and weighs more than the soil finisher . By the time you add the weight of seed fertilizer and then add all the hydraulic power needed to run the vacuum fan and down force it really uses and requires the extra power.

      @@henrylopez5252 we got about 1 inch of snow but mostly rain . The wet snow actually insulates the ground . It kept the beans from getting cold . Honestly it happens every year . I've had beans sit with 6 inches of snow for 4 days and they survive. The corn is what worries us it cannot stand the cold. We warmed up quick today so the crops are fine .

    Can you please convert the numbers in description into metric, just as an additon to the imperial ones you put there? Feets, bushels, yards, pounds...? It would make undestanding the field work you guys do there in the US for the European viewers much easier.

      @@freebooter247 Yea, one can easily convert the units online but average viewer would be annoyed to do it all the time, pause the video, google the conversion site, convert the units, figure out the values, go back to video...Imagine the number of viewers ready to do it.It would be much simpler for author to put the converted values next to the original ones.I am mechanical engineer so i have no problem with imperial units but I am sure that lot of european viewers get very confused.It would make channel better and closer to the large group of viewers.

      This farm is mostly no till for corn. Some fields they work up depending on the soil and how wet the harvest was.

    Never thought about it before but I notice the steering wheel doesn't move when the tractor is in auto guidance - would it be the case that the driver could override by moving the wheel in an emergency?

      Yeah if you turn a certain amount it disengages the auto steer.

    6:45 wouldnt it be better to turn the ground with a plow to burrow the weeds? The shown way wont kill the weeds, they will come back soon.

      A plow would be to aggressive for a decent seed bed. Those weeds won't survive plus they will spray again to kill anything off

    What would happen if you planted 15 inch corn. To dense to yield well?

      15 inch corn is often popular for silage. It produces allot of feed.

      For narrow row grain corn I see mostly 20 and 22 inch. There are some farmers that combine 15 inch corn but it is much more common for silage.

      The corn will be fine. The planter pushes through the soil. Wet weather delayed the herbicides pass so there was thicker clumps of grass to work up.

      Not in corn. All 47 row units are engaged for 15 inch soybeans only 24 for 30 inch corn.
