Wow! I actually have a 27 inch Panasonic Tau series TV sitting in my basement as of right now… I actually got it for free from a friend of mine nearly a decade ago who got it from someone who got it from a local motel that recently upgraded their TVs, and I actually used it as my bedroom set for quite a while before I finally upgraded to an Emerson set that we bought back in 2012 and still works great today!
Ah, so you got this pretty much the same way I got my Philips 20PT643R. I don't think mine has a headphone jack, but it does have "front" A/V (they're actually on the side). Mine has component input too, but oddly enough, it does not support progressive scan. Either way, I'm not complaining since I got the TV for $free.99
I remember our last tube set we ever purchased was one of these Tau sets because of the distinctive logo...it was a large heavy tv and I think we got it used and maybe got a year or two out of it before a decent flatscreen could be had on black friday. The flat glass was really nice but the set had no hdmi and was rapidly aging as soon as we got it.
Our family did the same thing in the early 2000s, we had a 27 inch one that had component but no HDMI so TV was watched through RF on it right up until the house was sold with the TV still in it!
Many TVs I have seen made in 2000s I have noticed the contrast being turned up as high as it can go so the picture looks good and bright at the store but it will ware out the tube faster if left turned up all the way as it will overdrive the tube.
If you use a scart to component transcoder and the Retrovision HD component cables, yes it’s bad. Stick with-video for SNES. The picture also has way too much red push.
I just picked up a 20” Tau (CT20SL15). It’s solid. Very good picture.

These Panasonic sets I think are some top tier models. Right up there with the Trinitrons and the Toshibas from this era.

This can’t compare to the rare EDTV PD30. It’s 480p up to 1080i, zero lag, progressive scan, RGB scart, component, s-video and composite inputs.
