Cool. I just picked up a new one of these bikes yesterday for free at work and had never seen this setup before. I haven't taken it out of the factory box yet, until I knew what all the parts were so I wouldn't have to worry about loosing any of them. Today thanks to your video I'll be putting it together.
Thanks RJ for the helpful videos. Especially this one. Been building some old school BMX bikes for cruising. Had to install 3 gyros from scratch. This made it a lot easier! Just takes a lot of patience to get that detangler from flopping.
Just installed and tuned my first G2 using your video. Thanks for the tutorial . Really helped a lot
Been a long while since I've instsl3led an old school detangler...put it on a '88 Haro Sport Vintage...very helpful...many thanks...
Great thorough explanation, thanks! I am building an old GT and have a Gyro that I never used and planning on finally putting it on my build, don't remeber much about putting bikes together anymore haha.
Thank you for your well informed vedeo on gyro box brakes. Those brakes I always in the past I use to avoid adjusting, because I did not know how.,well I took a look at your vedeo ,and I'm an expert, thanks to your vedeo!
Thank you! Very helpful your instructions, thanks from Brazil.

I had the blue subvert 3 back in about day , awesome bike , especially for a mountain bike company.
Trek makes more than mountain bikes. They started with road bikes and still make some of the best.

Ahhhh...So Diet Pepsi. Thats what makes RJ tick. Thanks for the great video!
I had a BMX scooter back in the early 90's that had Bulldog brakes and a gyro. It was sweet!
Hello. Thanks for video. Soon will be installing a gyro onto rebuild. Question, does the bottom gyro plate go in between top of frame and top headset cup?
Can you adjust the height of the gooseneck and handlebars on a diamondback joker with this same gyro setup?
Nice vid ... subbed
what is the part called you use to pass trough the front brakes cable inside the steering tube and can i use this on every BMX handles ? because i am new to BMX and coming from normal bike riding i prefer to have 2 brakes. nobody talks about front brakes in BMX scene. i plan to get a 24" cruiser BMX.
gracias!!
I got a question do you need holes on your bike frame if not then which gyro kit should I get. I am not drilling holes in my bike I don't want to mess it up also I also don't want to ride brake less. So please tell me if I can install a gyro kit with no holes on my bike.
Thank you
I need help I my headset keeps on moving away from my tire and won't track with my forks any suggestion
Awesome video, thank you! Why is Marine Grease better than Regular Grease or White Lithium Grease?
Marine grease doesn't break down when it gets wet, and it lasts a long time.
what size rims ant tires are them im looking at to get 20 1.75 but im not sure yet i dont want to thick or to thin
Very nice very cool seraaaaa

Anyone know how to take of the gyro I got a new bike and didn't notice it had brakes and I ride brake less
Hey RJ, question.. I have a bmx and the handlebars are out of alignment with the wheel.. keeps turning when I hold the wheel between my legs. Do you have any advice on how to fix this?
Tighten the stem.
Can i just remove it and just install hendlebars??
Where do u get that stem bolt with a hole that goes the cable tru under the fork where can i get ...what do you call this thing????
It's part of the gyro system.
Great video RJ! Are gonna post any more videos of your 1954 Indian Scout?
That is a long term project. I can't do much on it until I get the parts which are not easy to find. I also need to get down to Hershey, PA to get a close look at a 1954 Indian Scout bike they have down there in a museum to see what it should look like.
Alright good luck
Me refiero al aro donde se lee O2,gracias
Are all detanglers like this? I've been given a bike with a detangler on it that the frame is likely ruined because someone burned it with a torch or something. I was thinking of taking the headset and fork and using it on a different bike till I can find the proper parts. My intended doner bike is around a 2014 huffy so I have no idea if the sizes are the same though I do think they are because it's still using the old one piece crank. I fully intend to upgrade to better parts when I have the money but I 1 inch headsets and forks are not as easy to find these days as they were 20 years ago
I think this is pretty standard.
what year is tht bike i been riding flatland for over 15 years and i never saw a flatland bike like that is nice
1997ish. bmxmuseum.com/bikes/trek/47007
that bike is hideous (to me at least)
You have no idea. But thanks so much 🙏
We need a sealed bearing headset for the 1 inch and gryo system. Can't believe no one has made one yet. Wow
Can you do another tutorial on this but with a bmx threadless headset?
Probably pretty much the same thing, except threadless. czcams.com/video/Q79-Jfekm9A/video.html
Hey RJ the bike guy! I took off the nut that was holding the fork, stem and handlebars together completely off and now when I try putting it back in turn tighten it, it won’t tighten. Now my fork won’t move when I turn my handlebars can you help me out?
Sounds you re-assembled it wrong.
I miss that bike so much! I had my trek for 16 years and it got stolen out of my truck at an impound lot :( been searching for it or a clone for a few years now no luck
I Am YZDEMON it’s called a trek subvert 1.0 maybe search that up on eBay and you’ll probably find one
RuthlessGamer110 BOSS everyone on there is beat or they want 1k for one that dont even have the original parts
I Am YZDEMON true...
How many times did he say "here"
How can I get a gyro that long?
I have a mongoose bmx that’s missing the original front calliper for the gyro system. As you know it’s a bit different as the cable loops and connects to the bottom rather than the top of the calliper and i can’t seem to find one anywhere. The rear calliper is a Shimano brand so I’m assuming the front would have been as well but is there a special name for that type of calliper? Hell maybe I should be so lucky and you even have a part number for me. Cheers in advance.
No idea. You need to do research, and watch ebay.
I figured it out. If you look at the calliper on the bike in this video you can take the barrel adjuster and the cable holder and simply reverse them and voila. So you can have a standard side pull from both top and bottom using the same calliper.
Glad you got it figured out. These is so much variation of parts, it's pretty much impossible to tell people what bikes have what parts.
What size of ranch do you use to take off the part that was already loose on 1:52
I used an adjustable wrench. Those vary from bike to bike anyway.
What year did that trek came out bcs I got a 2001 original dimond back bmx
Google it.
Ok
thats the first time i have ever seen that
Hey RJ, i'd like to remove my gyro brake and don't put it anymore. Can i just put my bar back ?
Shimida yea I wanna know too
Yes. Just take it off and put the bars and stem back on with out the rotor.
My Bmx bike won't release the handle bars with the stem(removed the screw )? Could it be that it is stuck? Trying to revive my old bike.
Thanks

czcams.com/video/7GvN7w386U0/video.html
Thanks, that helped. Now I just need to get it out of there. Much appreciated.
Does it matter which bearing u use???
Yes. you want to the same size bearing that was in there. Anything different may not fit properly.
can i put the rotor in a bmx that doesnt have rotor?
no. not enough room
Where did you get that cool little grease gun?
Edmund Fournier Amazon: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0025UGOVW/ref=nosim/youtube25-20
There are other brands that look almost identical. But they generally don't work as well as the Dualco.
Edmund Fournier I even made a video of filling it: czcams.com/video/Bysp3VfYxVI/video.html
Thanks! You rock!
RJ The Bike Guy kinchrome tools has one in their range,i'm getting one as it would be more convenient than handling grease & making a mess.
neil crompton As I have said previously, there are a bunch of mini grease guns that look like the Dualco, but many have mixed reviews, or downright bad ones.
If I completely take of the gyro, do I just need the bearings?
You will probably need a whole new headset.
RJ The Bike Guy ok. Thanks
Dude you didn’t even explain why you loosen the cone nut. Could you elaborate?
mine isnt that cheap screw on, so its harder
what do you do with all these bikes RJ the bike guy?
+Issiah Ornelas I resell most of them to make room for more bikes. I keep some of the ones I really like.
Do you have anymore bmx videos coming up I'm a big bmx rider
Not soon. Not sure what else I would cover.
On more modern bmx the sealed bearing show how to over haul them or one the brake tune on all different brakes over haul sealed bearing for a head set
I'm pretty sure he's not you Unstable Wun
awesome great now how do you remove the last peice omg
+jhill0962 Which last piece?
+RJ The Bike Guy the black bottom piece that's on the frame
+AquaLady 420 (HoodChick) The cups are pressed in.
so you cant get em out to remove the entire rotor
You should be able to remove the whole thing. Watch this video at about 4:45 czcams.com/video/CINjuispG5g/video.html
The rotor headset might have something more holding it in though.
how much is that one worth I have one I'm selling
www.rjthebikeguy.com/faq/
Can someone please tell me how to remove that bottom piece at 3:46
you have to remove the bearing cup that's on top of it. That's what holds that bottom piece in place.
czcams.com/video/VkY879pMafE/video.html
I would call that a swash plate, even if it does not need to swash but only use a collective pitch effect, rather than a cyclic pitch as it is used in a helicopter. .
What year is that Trek?
Research it and let me know.
SMS CUSTOMS 1997
Impossible????
It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Lol, Ijust took the thing off and made my bike "STREET"!
I'm looking for videos on how to do that very thing! Having to "reverse engineer" the process, since I know zero about bike repair. sigh. Thanks for confirming that it can be done!
This is so old school lol
My carbonated drink of choice is Coca Cola.
so much diet Pepsi!
