In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks...
Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy.
And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father...
I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day…
Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home.

Bifocals seems to mess everything up....bought some safety glasses that have a 1.5 magnification in the entire lens and this helps to keep that front sight in focus with out having to lift your head up to look through the bottom of your bifocals. You are so right, in that it all comes down to training your eyes. I made something similar that you discussed in a previous video and it worked great.

Chris, great video and great tool. Just got it for my bday from the wifey. I have 2 questions. 1...if I normally wear contacts (I'm not blind, but they help) should I be wearing them when using this? 2...I had no issue seeing the x clearly along the length, 6" to front sight. Is the exercise about speeding up the time it takes to get that good focus?

I've had the advanced front sight focus string for a while and I've had better luck using it in a well lit area with corrective lenses. I just uploaded a video on my channel about it and what Chris says on this video is very true as well.

The idea is to see an X before and after the bead and they should intersect at the bead. This means your eyes are working together. If you only see 1 string leading up to the bead than it means one eye is not working with the other. The whole point of the exercise is to get your eyes to work together and see the X before and after the bead you are focusing on. And if you are truly focusing on the bead, they will intersect at that point. If you are not, they will intersect where you are really focusing.

Great tool! Quick question Chris, what does it mean if I can’t focus 100% on the closest bead 4 inches from nose? I see the bead somewhat blurry, still seeing the X. 6 inches and further no problem.

You are supposed to see the X at every bead. Seeing the X exactly at the point of the bead is what you should be seeing as it means both eye's are working equally together. If you only see 1 string leading up to the bead, one eye is not working in concert with the other eye.

Should you practice this with or without your glasses if you have vision issues?

    • @jacobharrod6912

You should practice with your corrective lenses. You want to be able to dial in the detail as much as possible. I made a video about Chris Sajnog's Advanced Front Sight Focus String on my YT channel as well.

Alfred did you ever get the advanced one? If so do you still use the regular one? I have the same question as yours.

@@Charlton_Kekston If you want a better tool for the job I would go with the advanced. I thoroughly enjoy mine and it works very well.
