- In an exclusive interview for Eurovision News in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has told TV reporters that he is ready to discuss a commitment from his country not to seek NATO membership in exchange for a cease-fire, Russian troop withdrawal and guarantee of Ukraine's security.

Just wanting to praise the interpreters in these interview, it is much clearer than other interviews with Pres. Zelensky in the past.

The other translations were “simultaneous”, real-time translation. So the translator had to listen, understand and playback into English, while also listening to what he was saying next. Translator must also not get the words wrong as it could to further diplomatic complications. It’s a very challenging task. This translation doesn’t look like it’s “simultaneous”. Looks like it’s been translated and dubbed to VDO after the interview, so there was time to listen to the interview and translate and transcribe properly.

@@MegaTippy This is exactly what I came here to say. I translate French to English/English to French, and that is exactly what that looks like here to me - that this is not a real-time translation. Real-time is really hard, even in French/English...it would be even more of a challenge in Ukrainian to English, because the langauges are more different, in terms of things such as grammar structure, etc. I mean, as everyone probably knows, it's not even the same alphabet - Ukrainian uses the Cyrillic alphabet.
Okay, now I'm sure the translation was done aftewards, not during. I know a handful of Ukrainian, and, listening closer, I can hear a part where (because of the grammar structure of Ukrainian), they voice of the translator says a word in English BEFORE Zelensky says it in Ukrainian.
This is also a good example of why simultanous translation is so hard, and sometimes comes out weird. Just the way different langauges are structured, the word order will be different.
Imagine if all the leaders would have this level of humanity and courage!

Imo it was the best translation/interpretation of Zelensky's talk, the nuances of the topic were clearly delivered to non Ukrainian speaking people, great job, and of course Zelensky was brilliant, as usual.
