CROSSOVER | The Carmelo Anthony & Allen Iverson Experiment | Short Film

- čas přidán 5. 06. 2023
- "Crossover" is an original short film that takes a deep dive into a time where the Denver Nuggets attempted to create the ultimate scoring duo, bringing All-Star Allen Iverson to the Mile High City to play alongside rising star Carmelo Anthony.
Years before the Denver Nuggets ever found themselves in the NBA Finals, they were desperate for a contending roster in the midst of the extremely competitive Western Conference. With a disgruntled Allen Iverson wanting out of Philadelphia, the stars aligned for the formation of one of the game's most unlikely duos.
This short documentary is not associated with Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, or the Denver Nuggets.

Thank you so much for this video, subscribed.. it really brings me back to HS/College as a Nuggets fan, never missing a game. We always underachieved but those were fun times, AI KMart Smitty Melo Camby Birdman - incredible personalities made those teams so exciting. K-Mart used to bark at dudes like a pitbull, man I missed those teams over the years.
This video was pure nostalgia, thank you!!
@@jobbrown7847 I appreciate the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed! Always cool to help people go down memory lane. Those late 2000's Nuggets teams were alot of fun!
Instrumental name starting around the 7 minute mark please.
The fact that they were 8th see with more than 50 wins shows you how the league was then. Kobe, T Mac, Spurs, Dallas, Blazers. Man that era was crazy. They did AI wrong. He could’ve stayed in Philly if they were going to use him for one & a half seasons.
@ The Trap That's true..i have been a nuggets fan since the mid 70s and i remember some of the great Nuggets teams of the late 70s and early 80s with Issel and English would consistently win 45 to 55 games but the western conference was ABSOLUTELY loaded throughout those years. Im thrilled to see them finally on the brink of winning a title this season
Facts the west was tuff back then
And it’s crazy how melo gets so much slander on his name like folks forgot how tough the west was to have 50 won games and still the 8th seed was crazy
EXACTLY!!!!!!! KOBE BEAT THAT TEAM!!!!!!!!
@@rocknroll7065 nuggets fan since the 70s.. talk about delayed gratification lol
Allen Iverson made me a fan of basketball. Loved that Denver team
Gotta love AI!
50 win 8 seeded squad is crazy 😭😭😭
Facts!
Man AI & Melo could’ve been a crazy duo. Wish they could’ve won a chip together.
Would've loved to see them both get a ring!
It was amazing. No ring but the memories are forever
I loved them both but unfortunately they were both defensive liabilities. Nuggets were better off when they traded for Chauncey
They was already in motion slightly blackballing A.I. by then
Kobe was in their way
An era where basketball was so tough. Great respect for those who stood out and put on a show.
I'm from Philly, and I was sick when they traded AI. The whole city was gloomy and depressing the next day after they traded him. We took it hard when they got rid of him. It was the saddest I've ever seen a city be as a whole. It still gets me emotional when I think about it
Here's a documentary we produced recently about Iverson's MVP season in 2001. Definitely worth checking out if you feel like reminiscing on his time in Philly! Link:

Wow
That punch changed Melo’s career for ever
50 wins was only an 8 seed that’s crazy they finish top 3 in todays game
Facts! Incredible how competitive the Western Conference was that season. To win 50 games then be stuck playing the #1 seed is just insanely bad luck.
They had issues defending
The west was having their way with the East during these times
🙄
As a Die hard Nuggets Fan I Wish the A.I. Melo Duo Worked out 💯
Agreed!
We have a project on Nikola Jokic's 2023 season and playoff run set to drop soon so stay tuned!

Great video, bro.
Iverson’s steep decline in the season after being traded to Pistons was perplexing to me. He went from arguably his best season as a high-level efficient scorer to barely averaging 17 with the Pistons.
I agree, it's really strange. Honestly, after looking into it more, I just think the structure in Detroit was deteriorating and there wasn't enough around AI at that point in his career for him to thrive. Mix that with his own personal issues with the franchise suggesting he should come off the bench, and you have a pretty bad combination. I would've loved to see him stay longer in Denver, it seemed like they were right on the cusp of figuring things out. Billups brought the winning mentality and experience Denver needed, and If there could've been some way for AI and Chauncey to be on the team together with Melo, you're talking about a legitimate title contender.
Glad you enjoyed!
@@TriceOfficialI Didn’t Know It Was People That Felt The Same As Me!
confused the hell out of me too.
Bruh the coach I forget his name but he was a unproven coach. He wanted Chauncey Stuckey to start over A.I. he though Stuckey was better lmao. Killed A.I's number that season. A.I said he was confused about the move cuz they told him BEFORE he came to Detroit that he would be that starting 2 guard. #CRAZY
@@EJByrd Yoooooo!!!! I forgot that Rodney Stuckey was suppose to be the Pistons future lol That was a perfect example you can’t bent over backwards for young prospects without results.
I truly believe to this day that Carmelo and Lebron should of share that mvp of the year
Game of basketball needs more of this. This should be on ESPN and really hope you keep these going. Helps keep the game in the proper perspective as opposed to a lot of the media stories
Thank you for the support! That's the goal.

@@kabubisarkcess9691 chunk a 3, if that don’t work, chunk another
Melo was like ya better have a answer for getting rid of the Answer and they said “we got Billups”….understood lol 🤝🏾
They couldn't do anything with him he was a BEAST ONE OF THE BEST TO PLAY THE GAME
Facts!
That "We had it all, just had zero guidance" from JR Smith falls 110% on George Karl. Had 2 of the best iso scorers, who could have been an all-time great 1-2 punch, were left hanging out to dry. They should both have a ring in their retirement. Damn shame.
Nothing but truth spoken here.
Karl should've been fired especially when the fight broke out because he had already lost the locker room
That’s a fact
Kobe stopped us😭
Karl is a cancer coach
MAN I want sooooo much wanted that to work MELO & Ai..priceless
I loved this Nuggets team, regardless of there success. A.I. and Melo!!! To of my favs when I was a teen
That man that outro music has a mystery uncovered vibe to it. Feels great, like I just finished discovering some shit
Yessir! Glad you enjoyed.
Melo deserves way my credit for his contributions to the NBA. Respect King.👑💯💪🏾
This was a dope short-film👍.. I didn't realize how productive AI was when he went to Denver🧐. Too bad he never had a guy on the wing like that in Philly, cuz that team would have been unstoppable😬. Although he played the 2 a lot, he's still a natural PG, and an ALL-TIME GREAT.💯
Glad you enjoyed!
They were so close to getting mcgrady in 99
@@maartenvz 👍Him and T-Mac would have been the most athletic backcourt EVER 👍.. Imagine the league trying to defend them together 🤔😥👍?

Completely mind boggling that 50 wins only got them the 8th seed. I remember some of the great Nuggets teams of the late 1970s losing in round 1 or 2 of the playoffs because the western conference was absolutely loaded
But “The East wasn’t weak”

This was 🔥... i didnt even realize iverson was still in his prime when they tried this. Great work bro!
I appreciate you! Glad you enjoyed.
He was past his prime, it was embarrassing
@@MC-kj7dy 31 is still prime bruh. Yes it's the end but it still is. He even did really well those 1st 2 years.
If you really take a look at AI’s game his years with denver he was actually better than he was with philly. His years with denver he was way more efficient and he changed his jumper. His shot selection was way better too. I just think he never felt like it was his team so he didnt know how to lead. Melo was good but not a leader. His career has showed that. That denver team was very good 50 wins is not easy to do in the nba.
@@sparemaggs6060 Nah, he was completely washed when he got to Denver but still was after his stats. Pair him with another stat whore in Melo and it was the ugliest "winning" basketball in the league. You're insane if you think he was better in Denver than in Philly.
Appreciate you doing this video Brother, Much ❤ and respect to you!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed.
Great video! If they’d had a couple more years, who knows?? The ending music is truly something else. I could listen to that while driving, working out, anything…….
Great vid' two of my favorite players of all times' I remember this era very well'

@@TriceOfficial Respect, you dug deep for this vid, I always called Melo the 6'8 A.I. I always knew The Powers that Be' where never going to let A.I. win a chip esp with his background same for Melo' plus AI. never play with a elite team, like Kobe Duncan Wade LBJ and others who have chips' in the vid you said they played together for 2yrs, but really it was less than that,
This team was good and very likeable given the popularity of players. The West was incredibly competitive at that time unfortunately. In the East they might have made NBA Finals
Agreed. The West was ridiculous that season!
This team sucked their bench was horrible and JR smith should have been a starter
@@philminor2880 Nah they were good. Won 50 games and would have been #4 in the West. Bench was not bad. JR and Kleiza were ballers. Nene was good. JR didn't need to start as you already had a lot of offense in AI and Melo.
@@MeLoveParisHilton Klieza was a BUM Demarr Johnson BUM Anthony Carter BUM and a starter back was too short what you talkin bout Earl BUMBoykins JR Smith and Nene was not enough so beat it the west was too loaded
@@philminor2880 Kleiza was definitely NOT a Bum. Don't know what your definition of a bum is, but mine surely doesn't include someone who scored 41pts in a game and averaged 11ppg with great efficiency on a 50 win team.
They deserved a ring !
@zone 3 thank goodness its looking like they will get a ring this season ( I'm typing this as the Nuggets have a 3-1 series lead in the finals...I loved AI and Melo but unfortunately they were defensive liabilities and the team chemistry just didn't mix well
Thanks for putting this together! It was much needed

The A.I./Melo experience didn't work simply because the team played ZERO DEFENSE. Offense was fine but they couldn't stop anyone.

A true second option? If AI was averaging 26 as age 31-32, all they needed was a big man. I didn't see anything wrong with Melo and AI. I agree with JR Smith, no guidance. I believe they should have gotten a big man some depth in the bench
Better bigs than Camby, KMart and then Nene off the bench? Come on now, quit that
Camby was fine especially at that time you needed a guy like him, Martin, Nene, and Birdman to battle Duncan, Yao, Amare, Pau, Bynum, KG before he went to Boston after the 07 playoffs, Dirk, LaMarcus Aldridge, David West, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph. What they were lacking was leadership what Chauncey provided was not only elite defense, but leadership and championship pedigree.
They both needed the ball in their hands
They played no defense.. had no bench.. what do you expect
@@deez8686 never the case Lebron wasn’t the leader on none of his teams except when he return to Cleveland. The best player never be the leader.

The success to the naked eye that the nuggets had with Billups looks like a higher success result than with AI, but the things that are overlooked is that AI and Melo didnt play together all that much time, the first season Melo and as you said other roster were out on suspension, Melo had injuries, and AI was pretty much on another Sixers team for a while til they returned, we all know Iverson wasnt really committed to those practices like that, Billups was traded with 2 other players unlike Iverson that came alone, the results probably would have been alot different if Iverson went to the Nuggets with a player that he got a chance to get experience with prior to coming to Denver like Billups coming there with Mcdyess, not to mention the Nuggets were eliminated by the same team as the last season, so would they have gotten further in the playoffs if they played the Lakers earlier? I doubt it. The only thing that Denver team was truly missing to stop the Spurs the first season, and the Lakers the next season, was some actual defense, which Camby was truly the only noteworthy team mate known for good defense and a proven top tier defender, Iverson naturally was going to be somewhat a "liability" for defense in a 5 on 5 sport that the average height is probably 6 5, he simply didnt have the length to be able to stop a Kobe, or even be any sort of threat defensively to a Lamar Odom or a Pau Gasol, so offensively, there was no issue, the defense is the thing that was heavily lacking, and as J.R Smith said, they lacked any true leadership person to make them all really mesh, thats probably the only thing Billups really brought there to Denver, the Pistons' game was probably built on strong team values, being that they didnt really have offense as something to really bully players with, so the defensive mindedness is probably what he was able to bring, Billups had the size to more effectively challenge bigger guards and make it harder for them to score; no one is going to take a 6 footer seriously attempting to get in their way honestly.
Ofc they got to tha wcf with billups
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't K mart ( a pretty good defender) on that team also?
@@rocknroll7065 Im not even sure, but whatever the case, Iverson was going to be a mismatch vs anyone anyways, he was a little boy lol, and Melo was no defensive threat
