  • Hi everyone Happy new year!
    In this video I will be showing you how to install a bigger 1/24th scale ecx barrage motor in a scx24!
    The drill bit I use here is a 7/64" carbide bit from Ace hardware.
    In pt.2 I will be flipping the transmission to move more weight forward and lowering the battery tray!
    Note: If you do not flip your tranny around you will need to langthen your motor wires by soldering a bit extra wire between the plug and motor. You could make a extentoin wire to if you have the plugs.
    Sorry for the auto contrast crap and the back ground noise its the heater lol.
    Hope this helps someone out there!
    here is a link to the micro barrage motor if anyone that wants 1:

    Enjoy everyone!

    You need to get the wow stick +1. It's a cordless mini screwdriver. Its the best tool for working on the 1/24 scale crawlers. I love mine ,I use it for all my RC's.

    I just bought my deadbolt yesterday and right out of the box I noticed that there was a little noise so after I used up the first battery charged I decided to open it up and I saw that the spur gear was wobbling back and forth when I would accelerate which then created the noise that I was hearing! I’m hoping I can just adjust the spur so it doesn’t wobble

      You can try to tighten it s bit but it most likely warped like mine is. It should be fine it happens allot in micro scale the parts are so tiny 😅. You can try setting the mesh a tiny bit loose sometimes that helps. 😊

    Man, I didn’t even think about pulling the motor out like that. I was pulling it out the bottom, this is so much easier, I had to pull it again to fix a loose gear on the motor. I just used the stock barrage gear.

      Basically if the esc is flashing red that’s your lvc talling the the battery is dead. But if it’s solid red the motors probably bad. You can hook the motor straight to power and see if it spins up to test or plug a new motor in to the esc. ✌️🙂

      You can run multiple no limits with 2.4ghz. if you get some for your kids don't let them use it alone. There rated 14+ for a reason. Also make sure to get a real hobby grade charger to. The stock 1 does not balance right and tends to fail or puff the lipos. 😅

      @marcochavanne Před 4 lety +3

      @@TJthercGuy I'm new to this whole hobby so any suggestions are appreciated. Is there a specific charger you'd have in mind?
      You're right about the chargers. Both my son and I's chargers failed after one charging session and was a big buzz kill. It was Christmas day shortly after we had opened them.
      But Horizon Hobbies answered my emails over the holidays and sent my two replacements and an extra one as a spare.
      My boys are 2,3 and 5 years old. The oldest is on the spectrum and can already name all the parts on a car including internal components. He is LOVING his "Yed-doe Jeep"
      The 3 year old had a turn and did extremely well climbing over the storm shelter. It is pretty steep and has lots of thick tall grass.
      I have already established it isn't a toy we can play with without dad being involved. I don't want to take any risks with the boys or their toys getting damaged.
      I'm going to use upgrades as incentives for good school reports and positive teacher feedback.

      @TJthercGuy  Před 4 lety +2

      Harsh Fire yeah if you have a wheel nut or the spur nut to tight or even the pinion mesh to tight you will fry motors left and right.
      Oh before you buy a barrage motor I would test a motor not installed and see if it fries in a min or so. If you go through my video the deadbolt esc glitched and started frying motors. It took out the barrage motor and several litter testing the issue including a big beefy servo motor. 😔

      @HarshFire_ Před 4 lety +1

      TJ the rc Guy yea I’ve been driving mine out in direct sunlight and the motor gets super hot after a good 10-20 mins Of driving it can the motor dry from getting too hot

    • @TJthercGuy
      @TJthercGuy  Před 4 lety +1

      Harsh Fire oh yeah heat is what what kills allot of motors.
      On a real hot day you have to let it cool down or the brushes will melt inside the motor. If the motor is too hot to hold your finger on for at lease 10 seconds it’s to hot let it cool for a few mins.
      Even a 1/10th scale can over heat on a hot 90o+ day if you push it to hard. ✌️😊

    • @TJthercGuy
      @TJthercGuy  Před 4 lety +1

      Stuck in First no you don’t have to flip the tranny but the wire might not reach and keep in mind you might have weight upfront but the bigger motors weight will offset that. Also flipping prolongs the life of the motor because it’s not running reversed all the time and helps with torque twist by moving the weight to the opposite side.
      Yes it does hit the chassis rails but not to bad. Mines jammed ageist the rail and it’s been fine. But if you use the stock barrage pinion it might a louder like mine. But my spur is a bit warped to so who knows. 😂

      I can't say I haven't Burnt out the barrage motor yet. But I'm sure it will last longer because it don't get as hot being it's got more torque. Just keep in mind micro motors don't last as long as bigger rc the brush's are tiny. 😅

      @TJthercGuy  Před 4 lety

      Randy Chamberlin yes you can pick up some small rubber orings put them on the ball ends between the steering link and knuckles to reduce the slop in it. Also you can glue the servo saver solid it makes a huge difference. Just be careful and don’t over tighten the screw reinstalling it.

    • @TJthercGuy
      @TJthercGuy  Před 3 lety

      Did you remember to drill the spur cover and flip the barrage pinion? If not the pinion and motor shaft will hit the spur cover and if your using the stock barrage pinion without flipping it the teeth won’t line up right. 1 other thing it could be is your spur nut might be to tight you want the spur to have a tiny bit of wiggle on the input shaft. Hope that helps. 👊🙂

      @@thegreatrc9302 I’ve used both in this video it was the barrage pinion. @@ponderin tranny flip puts the motor weight farther forward and to the opposite side of the torque twist to help fight it. Also the motor isn't running in reverse to go forward.
      As for the weight allot is on the chassis and body that's why there top heavy out of the box. But some axle weight or wheel weight helps. Added weight also helps with grip to.
      If you check out my mil-stone wheel widerner video you can see how they affect the handling.
