Why NONE Of My Tortoise Eggs Hatched

- Today I go through the failure of not being able to hatch out a ton of eggs in 2023. This is a learning opportunity for me to do better.

Who is Sota's Exotics
Sota's Exotics is run by Sam Schulman, along with help from my girlfriend Cota. We are originally from Illinois, moved to Knoxville TN in May of 2021. Then down to Chattanooga TN in June of 2022. I’m so excited to see how candid you are! That’s exactly how I feel we should be as well! My leopard gecko laid her first clutch about three weeks ago. And I made the not incubate mistake because they had dried out, due to where she laid them. She was a first time mom. One was definitely not viable I know that based on the shape of the indentation and the coloration of the egg and such, the other egg though I kept questioning and it had slightly dried out. I didn’t think it was viable. Well, couple days later I noticed that tell tail donut. 🍩 and I couldn’t forgive myself for three days! Like, literally, even though, as you said, I knew I hadn’t killed something that could feel any pain. I still felt like I had I had killed my first viable, leopard gecko! I had planned on showing both eggs what they look like and go over the mistake that I had made. However, one of the eggs disappeared, and I’m not sure where the heck it is or why it disappeared, lol! 😆 so it was a video I couldn’t really make. We are really excited because we got our second clutch yesterday from the same leopard gecko! This was great news for us in the face of the news about Brian! And even though the eggs had dried out a little bit, I was able to rehydrate them and get them in the incubator. I set up the incubator got it on the right temperature, which was frustrating as heck to figure out how to do, made sure the water Receptacle was full, then went to bed. I woke up this morning and apparently either the hatching medium wasn’t wet enough or the incubator just doesn’t humidify enough and the eggs had dried out a lot. So I did all I know to do and have rehydrated them, changed the hatching, medium, and I am crossing fingers for 2 Months! I really pray that at least one of these hatches out because it will be named Brian. Even though we’re all going to make mistakes still doesn’t make them any less difficult to deal with at least not for someone who put a lot of pressure on themselves. I actually reached out to the donor and bought the cards myself ! I also got him some extra customers so he gave me one for free ! And yes I love showing everything successes and failures. It’s all apart of sharing we have going on and what works and what doesn’t. And definitely get merch!!!! I don’t have an actual merch store but I got some custom shirts and hoodies and stickers with my logo. It’s fun !
