This dish is of Chinese origin. Even before Spaniards came to Philippines, there were Chinese merchants already living in the Philippines so Siomai, Siopao, Pansit(noodle dish), lumpia shanghai(egg rolls), etc. are all of Chinese influence. As you will discover more and more, there are Filipino dishes inspired by other countries because Philippines is rich with natural resources, abundant in spices, and booming trade and have always welcomed foreigners and treat them as "familia" or family.
Like you and your family and Andre's family, lots of Filipinos have welcomed you so plan a visit soon and make Philippines your second home!

I am glad you discovered and cooked siomai! It's an inexpensive but very filling street food in the Philippines served with chili garlic, soy sauce, and calamansi (Philippine mini lemons). Uncooked siomai can even be frozen and, on a rainy day, be used in soup by boiling it together with some shredded chicken, diced carrots, and cabbage. It can also be eaten with rice by either steaming or frying them. Put the meat without the wrapper inside some dough, and it becomes siopao.

Hello! Congatulations on getting recognized by your Favorite Filipino chef!
Your siomai looks good for a first timer. Try folding the pinched ends of your siomai to the side so that it looks rounder and nicer. And while sweet chili sauce is a good sauce for it, you should also have soy sauce mixed with lemon juice.
Siomai is popular because it's cheap. You can have it as a snack or eat it with rice for a meal!

Magandang Umaga, Olya & to your mom.. Both Dumplings and Siomai, looks nice and tasty.. Thank you! for cooking another filipino food.. Kudos to your 2 daughters who are willing to be your assistant & help you.. Yay! Finally, RV Manabat notices your cake & give a compliment to it.. 👏👏👍 And i can see how happy you are after you found out.. Seeing you and your mom, talking about foods is delightful to see.. Btw, i watched Andrei's vlog, last night and i'm happy to see you are altogether in one vlog & one thing that made me laugh on his vlog when you & your mom, jokingly said that you will both make a lechon baboy using Andrei & Liza's pig while they are both in the 🇵🇭.. That really made me laugh.. 😅🤭 This is just my suggestion why don't you make a small business with that since you are good at making both russian & filipino desserts, dish & foods.. It's just my suggestion but, still it is still you who can decide.. 😊 Anyway, Congrats! again on doing a successful Siomai & Dumplings.. Keep safe and God bless! Olya and Family.. 🙂🙏❤️ 🇵🇭❤️🇷🇺

Wow, you really did it! It looks like the real Siomai we have in the Philippines and probably taste like it, too. The Dumplings looks great. I also buy the fried dumplings when I order from a restaurant. You should try deep frying the dumplings sometimes, they're delicious fried. And try making the Filipino dipping sauce by mixing soy sauce with lemon or vinegar, add red onion, some diced garlic and a little bit of pepper and then add some sugar to balance the saltiness and the acidity of the vinegar or lemon. Both the Dumplings and Siomai goes really well with this dipping sauce, since your mom is not a big fan of chili sauce. That mix of dipping sauce is what we usually get from the street vendors and it's very popular. Job Well Done, Pinsan Olya!! Oh yeah, "PINSAN" means Cousin in Tagalog😉😊😅

Your dumplings can be boiled too, with water it turn out as pansit molo. Filipinos are very creative in cooking that is why every food we cook varies just like adobo it can be pork, chicken in grilled it can be pork, chicken, squid, fish we try everything until we come out with the best
If your recipe is lacking try anything that you know the best replacement.. Just like cooking sinigang if we lack of a certain vegetables we replace it to something that could give the same taste. It's the creativity that makes the food to be yummy.

I'm very proud of you trying to cook Filipino dishes & you're doing great! Remember you can also substitute or add other ingredients like vegetables wt whatever you have or available in your country that you like. Filipino dishes are very versatile & forgiving, you can add potatoes bec it's your favorite to anything wt sauces or soup broth. Lastly maybe you should put measurements to the engredients that you use so your subscribers can follow. Most Filipinos cook according to the taste they like & no measurements. But for those who are not familiar likes to follow recipes. I wish 1 day you & your family can also visit the Philippines. ❤ from Filipino in USA 🎉🎉🎉 Goodluck!!!
