Calif. Zephyr in Ft. Morgan on 07JULY2024

- Today's California Zephyr #5 arrived in Fort Morgan at 0636 MDT (51 Min. late due to weather and freight traffic in central Nebraska). Leading the 8-car train were P42s #37 & #15. They brought the train to a single spot two car station stop with passenger service to 2 departing passengers from car 3 and 2 more passengers from car 7.
With the station work safely completed, Joe gave the high ball and on a clear signal the Zephyr departed with the next stop being Denver's Union Station.
Mt thanks to the operating crew for the greetings today.

Good morning, Jim; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. All good things come to an end and our weather is to change for the hotter early next week with upper 90s and triple digit stuff thrown in. I knew that summer was on the way. It's time to get back on the trike.
Have you noticed the days are getting shorter with the daylight already? We have lost a total of 9 minutes' worth out here. Oh well.

Good afternoon, Carolyn; I thank you for dialing in and the comments. It started out cloudy and cool. Then the sun burned off the clouds and it did warm to about 77 F. There is a thunderstorm over Fort Morgan right now and it had dumped some hail as well as rain. There is also a light and sound show with this storm. I am in hopes of more later this afternoon and evening. Tomorrow, we head back into the upper 90s and triple digit temperatures. Summer finally got here.

Good morning, Robert; I thank you for dropping by as well as the comments. I felt a click and heard a noise from the cam as I started the recording. I am still checking that out. I'll have a camera operating for tomorrows Zephyr. The humidity is relatively low at 23% but expected to go up later this afternoon. Might even get a rain shower if I hold my mouth right. LOL!

Good Sunday morning again Mike! Nice to see number 5 come through! Cloudy there this morning just like here in southeast Iowa this morning 👌. Actually I won’t complain too loudly! We should get some rain off and on today here. We still need it as our ground still has some cracks in it! A quick stop for them again this morning. Do have a great Sunday out your way Sir! We don’t always see those freights come through ahead of Amtrak. That was special to see! I commented on that video too. Thank you for 2 videos today! Mark in Iowa.

I still am watching the V/R cams at Burlington and coverage of the high water there. The river is looking rather mean and roiled there. Our river has more or less dried up. The runoff from the mountains is over. Now they need more snow already. LOL!
Yep. There wasn't too much time lag between the unit train and the Zephyr. We do see that out here in single track land.

Good morning Mike. It's going to be a great day, two videos, platform action doesn't get much better. Weird squeaky brake on #5, almost sounded like something was loose. I'm sure they will get it back to proper working order. Have a great Sunday.
Good morning, David; Thanks for stopping by along with the comments. Had I the time to have stuck around this morning, there were three more trains that went thru after the Zephyr departed. The camera operation had me vexed to say the least. Felt a click and an audible thud as the blur took over. I'll have an operating camera for tomorrow.
The brakes on that rear truck of car 4 were noisy. Hope the mechanics in Denver did check them out if they were reported.
Anyway, have a super Sunday up there while enjoying the weather. Gets really hot in a couple of days.

Marne had what appeared to be raindrops on his car last night. My windshield was mudded up so there may have been a very brief shower here. Supposed to have a better chance this afternoon and evening. That would be nice.

Morning again, Mike. Two videos in one day! Do we get a discount? As for the zoom issue, remember that old Irish man's prediction. Always happens when we least expect it. Didn't have a major impact on your shot of #5 coming through town, though. I noted the litte one who got off of the 31 car. I hope they enjoyed their trip and eventually take more Amtrak trips. Good afternoon, Phil; I had noticed your comment on the Unit coal drag and carry the conversation over to the Zephyr. I felt a click and heard it from the camera as I started the camera. None too happy with Mr. Murphy this morning. I am still investigating the camera.
I was somewhat startled to see Joe step from car 3 after I saw Kelly looking his direction. That youngster wasn't quite awake to start. I think he got more shut eye on the trip to his Grandparents house. His grandmother lit him up with hugs and kisses of camera.
The weather guessers are stating that we may get a sprinkle or two here this afternoon and evening. Tomorrow the heat returns with upper 90s and triple digit stuff.

Morning Mike. Getting ready to go home from the hospital today. I've been in since Thursday due to severe ventricular tachycardia. Im very grateful for the doctors and nurses. I was minutes away from a massive heart attack. Its incredible how much medicine has advanced. Stay safe and cool over there. I got the ok to go on the Zephyr in August. Wanted to make sure with the doctors it was ok before I go.

Morning Mike from Phil out here in PHX. Congratulations on your release from the hospital. I hope you get plenty of rest and Dr recommended exercise. Don't forget your meds. Then have a ball on your Zephyr trip. You've earned it! Best wishes from a fellow ticker issue survivor.
Yeah Mike that weather is hitting everything. You know it just won't let up. And I'm sure that Coltrane was probably running in front of the zephyr for a long time. And who knows how long that thing is going to be ahead of it. But I bet it was in front of it since you're right.
Good afternoon, Robert; Thanks for stopping by along with the comments. The coal train joined the sub at Brush Junction 11 miles east of here and is headed to Texas. The come south from the Powder River mines in Wyoming and thru here in route to southern coal fired generation plants. We also see the empties headed back for more. That is a problem with single track mainlines. Not many of the sidings are long enough for those trains and the shorties like the Zephyr have to take the hole and wait. Oh well. That's railroading today.
Ive heard it said that Hell is like Miami but less humid.

Have a thunderstorm overhead right now that dumped some hail as well as a lot of rain in a very short amount of time.

Did somebody leave their bags or something in the platform? It looks like there's something there with the cameras facing the westbound. I see that there's something there I don't know what it is it looks like someone's baggage.
The bags on the platform belong to the mother and son who got of the sleeper car. They stayed put as their ride drove around to pick up all the luggage. Joe has a tendency to do single spot passenger drops leaving the first-class passengers stranded 2 blocks away from their transportation.
