  • This is the second train today.
The east bound California Zephyr #6 made its station stop in Fort Morgan at 0711 MDT (10 hrs. & 55 min. late due to engine issues in Sacramento and numerous slow orders). A rescue motor #78 led the 8-car consist. It was assisting #18, & #174 in returning to Chicago. They brought the train to a stop with car 7 to the station platform for passenger work with 1 departing passenger and 2 new fares who had been waiting here since 1700 last night.
With them safely onboard, the high ball was issued and on a clear signal at east Ft. Morgan CP the #6 Zephyr departed for its next stop at McCook, NE.
My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings this morning.
    Everyone please stay safe!
Temp. still 74 F. and still felt like 78 or hotter.

Good afternoon, Ginny; I thank you for dialing in as well as the comments. It was decent on the platform this morning. Then it rapidly warmed up. With my laundry done, and everything home it is time to chill in the A/C for the rest of the day.
Have a great Sunday afternoon and evening.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe!

Good morning Mike. You're getting good at catching the #5 and #6. Just got back from a 50 mile motorcycle ride. Slowly breaking a new one in. Have a great Sunday out there and stay safe and coooool.

Good morning, David; Thanks for dialing in along with the comments. The trend of seeing #6 Zephyrs happens about this time of year over the past 4 years. I hope it doesn't continue for long. Hope the break-in ride was enjoyable. It was done at the right time of day.
Yep. I'm in front of a fan and the coolness in the house feels great. Don't see any reason to go outside until tomorrow morning.
Have a great Sunday afternoon and evening up there.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe!

Good morning Mike, I love your upload of two videos of California Zephyr trains number 5, and number 6 at the same time.
Have a wonderful Sunday, Mike and our fans of your channel!

Good morning, Chris; I thank you for stopping by and the comments. I appreciate it. I am in hopes this is the last "Two-fer" for a while. Tonight's #6 originated in Reno instead of Emeryville due to shortage of equipment and some fire that has broken out not too far west of Reno. It is about 1.5 hours late the last I checked.
Anyway, please have a great Sunday.
Take care, stay cool, and safe!

I thank you, Gerald. I appreciate it a lot. Just hope that the "two-fers" come to an end after this one.
With that done, I am into the chill mode for the rest of the day.
Take care, stay cool, and safe down there.

Good morning, Mike. Thank you for the added videos of the eastbound Zephyrs for the last few days. This morning’s added a pleasant touch to counteract my irritation from last evening’s news. Have a great day.

Good morning, Robert; I thank you for dropping by along with the comments. The "two-fers" seem to happen this time of year when the sun kinks and heat kinks are at their worst in Nevada. There were other issues as well but that was a cause of some. Tonight's #6 was 1.5 hours late from its origination in Reno. They bussed the California passengers to Reno.
I am not planning on being there to catch it tonight. LOL!
I hope that you have a great Sunday afternoon and evening. Don't put much trust in all the disinfo about the events of last night in PA. As bad as it was. Let the truth come from the secret service and FBI.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe!

Good Sunday morning again Mike! I didn’t see the gentleman in the red shirt board for Illinois like I saw him in the other “number 5” westbound video just before this video. I sure didn’t recognize the car attendant either. Stay cool today and if it gets too warm (like here!) stay cool! I’m in the air conditioning for now but will have to get out in the “oven” here in a while! Good grief it’s humid something awful here today! Have a great day regardless! Mark in Iowa.

That gent had donned a long sleeve plaid shirt. The A/C is named Mike as I recall. If I have it wrong, he can throw paper napkins at me later. '
Yep. I like the idea of chilling today.
Take care and stay safe, Mark.

    Two/4 Sunday. Good day Mike!
I feel like a piker, just about 12:30 here, but the temp is 93° & the humidity 76%.
Do have the heat advisory until this evening, and the chances of rain -slim.
    Ah summertime in the Lowcountry!
Take care with this weather. STAY SAFE & STAY COOL!

Good afternoon, Jim; Thank you for tuning in along with the comments. I'll chase your temps but NOT the humidity. I'll allow that to go elsewhere. LOL! We are in a heat advisory until 2000 this evening and again tomorrow. Might catch a break on Tuesday. May have to send this one to the Sahara.
I think my glider with a fan and other indoor amenities will do the job today.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe down there.

Wow yeah Mike you got to do double duty today. And so we going to see the eastbound right after the westbound. Probably some residuals from that derailment and that screw up they had yesterday or friday.

Hi again, Robert; This east bound had a defective engine and the rescue motor (number 78) was brought to Sacramento from the Oakland yard. Tonight's #6 originated in Reno and is 11/2 hours delinquent the last time I checked. Oh well.
Have a great Sunday back there.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe!

Again, afternoon Mike. Great to see a twofer, but must be a bit trying on you. This is the 3rd day in a row that you've done this? Nice to see #6 come through, but I bet even the crew would rather see Ft Morgan at 8ish in the evening, by now. Between heat related slow orders in the day ahead, a lot of connections are going to be broken when she finally gets to Union Station! We are finally dropping to 109, today, but with the dewpoint back above 70, again, it's going to still feel like the mid teens. You take care, stay cool and dry, and I'll be back tomorrow.

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před měsícem +1

I think the operating crews are seeing areas that they normally transit in the dark. They may want to just do that run in the night after seeing it in daylight. LOL! Tonight's #6 was 1.5 hours late from Grand Junction the last time I checked. Tomorrows #5 has not departed Chicago due to unspecified equipment issues as per the AMTRAK main web site. UGH! That dew point is ugly. We are at 101 F with a DP of 48F. More tomorrow. I had to check to see if I had translated to a different place with the temps staying in the triple digits. LOL!
Anyway, take care, stay cool, and safe down there.

Nice to see the train from the other side. Reading a previous comment brings up a question. It looks obvious that the engine crew works both # 5 and #6 but to the rest of the crew do the crew do the same? Probably a dumb question but thanks. Have a great day.

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr
      @MikeJensen-jt9yr  Před měsícem +2

The operating crews are the same. They have one part of the schedule where they work from Lincoln to Denver in the morning and then return with the evening train that night. There are two other days with runs as well. The train staff (car attendants, diner car folks) stay with the train from Chicago back to Chicago then get several days off before they do it all again.
      Not a dumb question.
Take care, stay cool, and safe!

Surprised BNSF has not sprayed the weeds

    • @MikeJensen-jt9yr

Good evening, Jim; Thanks for stopping by and the comments. Yep. I live in BNSF's forgotten sub where the weeds grow free and tall.🤣🤣
It is too late in the season for them to spray now. Oh well. With the cuts and furloughs they have enforced; the bean counters will happily save on weed spraying because they don't have to deal with them on a day-to-day basis.
Have a great evening back there.
Please take care, stay cool, and safe!
