- A Colorado woman captured the moment a bear clawed his way into a second-story window. Thankfully, the homeowner was not inside when the intruder showed up. The bear sighting comes as more information emerges about the Arizona man who was fatally mauled by a bear. Steven Jackson, 66, was enjoying his morning cup of coffee when the black bear suddenly attacked. His neighbor, David Montano, later killed the bear with his rifle.
This was the most tone-deaf piece in regards to someone losing their life. Good job inside edition.

No, no - the smiles and giggles was for the bear who climbed in through the window and ate pork chops, not for the bear who mauled the man to death. TBH, I was shocked too, till I realized the laughter was for the pork chop bear.

Very disturbing to report someone's death while smiling and making jokes
There's very little chance to surviving a bear attack. People who think they can out run or use whatever technique clearly don't understand the size and power a bear truly has. Your best bet just stay away from bear areas or carry a gun maybe bear spray. Ultimately if a bear wants to end you it will. Stay safe
If you're gonna fight a bear, then the black bear is the one you have most chance of surviving against as they dont typically grow to huge sizes. That being said the poor dude was 66 years old so there wasn't much he couldve done in that moment.

Basically if an aggressive bear spots you and you're unarmed, you're pretty much dead. You're not gonna outrun it, you're definitely not gonna beat it with your bare hands but his bear hands will beat you, and feigning death... yeah.
Feigning death only works with brown bears. This bear was a black bear and was going to eat him. Brown bears want to eliminate the threat. The only chance you have against a black bear is to fight for your life.
You might be able to bluff a black bear. Against a brown bear you should basically crawl up and hope he doesn't kill you before losing interest.

That advice only works for brown bears. The guy was mauled by a black bear. It was going to eat him. The only chance you have against a black bear is to fight and make it not worth the fight.

You cannot outrun a bear or climb a tree to get away. Bears can climb a tall tree in seconds. Sometimes it's better to play dead. You will probably be seriously mauled but some people have survived by doing what he said.

Most survival classes will teach you to play dead with just a brown bear. For a black bear...you fight like your life depends on it...bc it does. A black bear attacking a human is doing it to kill you. A brown bear is much more likely to allow you to live if you play dead. A black bear will make sure the job is finished.

You could look up the youtube channels that make their money by having bears come visit them everydays.The one guy invites mom and cubs up on to his deck all the time. He sits in his chair and records them. One tried to taste his knee once. He and his subs did not like my comment that he was being foolish and if not risking his own life, he was risking the bears by making them too used to humans up close. Can't remember the name of his channel, but i do now if you look up( bear simone and or cubs) it should pop up.

Up here in Alaska they say play dead if you're attacked. But I've heard others say if you don't fight a black bear they will eat you alive. Either way I think 99% of people instinct would be to play dead and likely going to die either way

The guy at the end of the video said to do the complete opposite of what to do if attacked by a black bear. Playing dead doesn't work with black bears, we were taught at a young age. We were always told to fight like hell or make yourself look bigger somehow or pick up a stick and hit the bear on the nose, the same as if you're attacked by a mountain lion., but DON"T play dead with a black bear as it doesn't work.
That is good advice for grizzly bears, but for black bears you have to fight like hell, and then maybe it will back off.
Unless it's a predatory attack, in which case it'll aim for your throat and you're dead. Black bears typically only attack out of predatory instinct, which means you're a dead man anyway. Best bet is to have a gun. That's it.
This is why you ALWAYS carry a gun
