Another Englishman here, first heard this watching the footage of the Hibs fans after the cup final, it was the best rendition of a song by football fans I’d ever seen, I had goosebumps.
Have looked up the song since watching the Proclaimers footage,an absolutely beautiful song, which I admit brings tears to my eyes.
Doesn’t matter what nationality you are this is a song for everyone.
Exactly that ❤
Your story is my story! A Scot friend of mine played me the video of that footballing occasion and when they sang this at th3 end , ha£ me in tears. Pure emotion dragged up from deep inside of me. I couldn’t and can’t explain it even after all these years.
I hated that final mainly because they beat glasgow rangers. but it's a beautiful moment
Absolutely spot on.
Nothing Scottish was ever meant to be kept to itself
Has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
the most beautiful in my opinion xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I agree
Yes
Have to agree Michelle
Heaven has lots of fantastic new angels ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️ god bless ya all x
Played at my brother’s funeral. He was a huge fan of the Proclaimers and this was his favourite song. Tears streaming but happy tears for the times we had together.❤️
Sound mate take care
Almost 2024 and this song jst still gets to you timeless classic ❤❤❤❤
I lost my best friend last year, he was a Celtic fan and 5 of us wore the shirts to his funeral to say thank you for your life. You were tough Scotty and I miss you brother, I listen to this song and think of you.
I might not be Scottish, (I'm Venezuelan) but I LOVE this song! I heard it for first time in Peru Lima when the Scottish national team came for the match Peru vs Scotland. I went to an Irish bar and they were there and played this beautiful song! I even made some Scottish friends! Sending love from Venezuela!
Leonel Marcano All the very best Leonel. Love from Scotland x
maxfarquhar cheers mate!
All the best wee man ,from Scotland love us and we will love you
Thanks a lot, since I love English language i would even love to visit Scottland someday and learn more of the culture over there. Sending love from this Venezuelan man!
Irish are culture vultures
Played at my dads funeral as he sailed from leith when he was in the merchant navy ❤
Not enough love songs say "thank you". Simple gratitude and appreciation for finding the other half of you.
Every time I hear this song I cry. I'm an old man well into my 60s and I've spent my life down here in the RBK&C, London. Yet every ruddy time I hear this beautiful, enchanting song, it touches my very soul and allows me to weep. Something I never did until this wonderful song came along. Thank you lads for writing such a lovely ode. HH
You are not old! 60+ is still a working age. Come back in thirty years and then say you are old. PS. Quite right, a beautiful song.
@@geoffheath3333 Cheers Geoff mate. Ok I ain't old (but my bloody back is lol)
Best song I have ever heard in my 43 years. Only just discovered it thanks to Hibs fans. Cheers
Just a really lovely, Scottish song, sung brilliantly by the Hibees fans!!
But don't have to be a Hibees fan to love this song!!
I'm from Dundee, just up the road from Leith, and a Dee till I die!!
But all nationalities around the world will, and do, love this lovely Scottish balad!!
So proud to come from this little country they call Scotland!!
@@davidmcritchie715 Ahh David pal, that was a beautifully written comment. You've every right to be proud. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Hard to beat the genuine warmth of the Scottish people.
makes me cry every time, such a beautiful song .lyrics that touch us all , always loved it ,proud to be Scottish
Crying now
I’ve just discovered this wonderfully beautiful song!! It touches the deepest part of my heart!!! I can’t play it in repeat enough!!! Thank you from Kentucky in the USA. 🇺🇸
❤
Wonderful experience
look up Hibs football fans singing it, its their anthem and gives goosebumps watching half a stadium sing it.
I am going to Edinburgh for a week in April. I'm asking God to provide me with the opportunity to see The Proclaimers while I am there.
You don’t have to be Scottish to love this song. Just listen and feel the beauty of it.
Exactly
You put it eloquently.
As lomng as yer No a tim
If you have a heart...it can be touched...
Spot on, this is the 5th time I have listened tonight, my dad loved this song, i wanted it played at his funeral, my family didn't know it, so i want it played twice when i am carried in and out in dads honour
I could watch this 1000 times and still shed a tear. Stunning. One of the most perfect songs ever written.
500 times and 500 more ?
Hibs fans must feel blessed , having One of the best Scottish bands and song ever as their anthem. I'm a Celtic fan and for sentimental reasons, my father was dying and couldn't get back to Scotland till the next day so spent the night before listening to the album in tears. I love it.
Yes it's a pity that football has to be brought into it every time this beautiful song is played.
@@allwrighty100 Maybe because The Proclaimers made it a football anthem for their club Hibs.
I'm English and want this at my funeral. Music is Music and this is superb
@@Fowksee Exactly man, I'm an Irish Celtic fan and saw the Proclaimers in Belfast about a year ago. When this started playing, I couldn't help but sing along. Its empowering, uplifting, emotional, almost transcendent. It may be a Hibs song, okay, but music crosses all types of borders and rivalries.
Brilliant pal. Much respect.
Gives me genuine shivers. Love to all from me in England ❤🏴🏴
I am a big Celtic supporter but I love this Hibs song.
Search for the Hibs Scottish Cup version. One of the best football songs ever.
Totally agree after all those years of waiting 2016 cup win crowd were incredible and I am not even Scottish .
Worth a million wins by Manupool ‘pay pee view ‘fans.’ True football passion.
These guys are underrated, pure magic 🫡
My heart was broken, my heart was broken
Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow
My heart was broken, my heart was broken
You saw it,
You claimed it
You touched it,
You saved it
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness
While I'm worth my room on this earth
I will be with you
While the Chief, puts Sunshine On Leith
I'll thank him for his work
And your birth and my birth.
First heard the song at 2016 cup final I’ve looked at the video so oft what’s brillant song
How good was Lucy J. Morgan from Dexys on Violin and full respect to the Brothers for giving her centre stage near the end of the song 10/10
Dexy's had a big influence on their career, Kevin Rowland recorded their first demo album I believe. Great band.
stunning
Loved Dexys, but I am IN Love with Lucy ❤️❤️
As an Englishman with no Scottish blood but plenty of Scottish friends, this song has meaning..........love it
Me to love it am a Scouser xx
You should watch the Hips fans sing this song after winning the cup in 2016 , it is magical .
@@JohnSmith-vy4lh Just watched it. It sure is.
Well said pal
To the cabbage n ribs. Best football club anthem in world
Sometimes a song just gets you and you give it your own meaning.
agreed! This is one of those songs..
Born in Leith in bowling green St (no longer there) in 1942 and lived there for 14yrs then moved to Manchester. My grandparents lived in Constitution Street. My dad went to Leith academy and my granddad worked in the offices at Leith docks.
The chorus of this song might be the most perfect and beautiful thing ever. Hearing it sung by thousands brings me to tears every time.
Hibs fans singing it after 2016 cup final brings me to tears and i’m a celtic fan. Song of beauty
@@deanstewart3569 agreed 💯 per cent
What an awesome song. I'm 65 and I cried watching this thank you
About 25k Rangers fans cried at Hampden as the Hi-Bs sang it,few years back.
A beautiful, raw, straight to the heart Scottish love song.
A diehard Genesis fan now 61 years old, I can’t believe what I’ve been missing with the beautiful songs from the proclaimers. One day they will get the recognition they deserve
Thank you Radio 4 for introducing this 33 year old stoner male from Devon to one of the only songs that can make me cry.
Hi my friend this song is also sang by Hibernian football club, if you search Scottish cup final v rangers you will see the fans singing a wonderful rendition..hope you are good
Canadian here! BBC Children in Need album introduced me to this song... Thank you David Tennant for introducing me to this song and thank you The Proclaimers for a beautiful song that changed my life.
Yeah me too from david tennant's cover. I wish I would thank him for introducing the proclaimers.
Aussie here, originally from Scotland. This song speaks to everyone's heart❤. Who is the delightfully dimpled violinist? She's beautiful!❤❤❤
Lucy Morgan from Denys Midnight Runners
@@pooch467 Thanks for that information! My son and daughter in law have promised they'll take me to the next Proclaimers concert if and when it comes to Western Australia. Hope it's soon as I hit my 83rd year very shortly!
Lost my wonderful, beloved wife recently. This is so powerful emotional, inspiring, and at a time I need it so hopeful. Thanks.
Lost my Wife on June 28th, we both love the Proclaimers. Especially this. Shine on my sweet Jude. Sweet sweet tune. 💕💕🏴🇪🇬
May she R I P xxx

Rich WALKER hope you find the strength to carry on with your life mate God rest your wife it is a lovely song all the best
I'm Belgian and a Celtic fan but when I hear this song and see the hibs fans singing it...I cry...
The violin solo 👏 👌🏿
It doesnt matter where you're from, this is an amazing touching song that definitely pulls on the heartstrings. Beautiful.
the most underrated band in the universe... i adore them
I’m a Rangers man,and that’s a beautiful song 🏴💙🙏🥃
Rangers the best
I'm a leave voting Englishman, Grimsby Town fan and Science based professional. I have opinions, but i love music, love Scotland and the UK in general wherever and whoever people are....
My sister in law moved to Scotland then she died because of that horrible disease but this was her fav song up the hibbs xx
Shivers every time and I’m a hearts fan to boot!
Always had Proclaimers on in the car on our journeys to Scotland. 🏴🏴🇬🇧
This song never fails to send shivers down my spine. It is simply beautiful.
"Your beauty, and kindness, the tears cleared my blindness"...possibly one of the most beautiful lyrics ever written. It tells of love, loss, and salvation in nine simple words.. moves me to tears when I hear it.
It's hard to sing it without tears forming in your eyes. Wonderful lyrics
These words in lockdown mean everything with a new born granddaughter out in Belgium I haven't met yet. Amazing lyrics. Amazing musical talent. Thank you Proclaimers. Meeting the granddaughter soon!
wonderful song, hope you have now met your granddaughter !
This is one of my lovely sister's favourite songs and she took me to see The Proclaimers as a surprise. We are both Edinburgh girls and although we left Scotland when we were children to follow my father's career, it's still home to me and I'm going back someday. x
Hope you're doing fine
As an Aberdeen fan i love going to Easter Road and listening to the hibees singing this before kick off
Love how they move to the side and let the fantastic violinist have the spotlight and let that part of the song be so powerful!
That's Lucy Morgan from Dexys Midnight Runners, talented and beautiful..Oh those Dimples!!
I find this unbelievably emotional for some reason. The Hibs fans singing this at the end of the season was superb. love from Ireland. COYBIG
Beautiful, I’m an Englishman and this is stunning ....... 👍🏻🏴🏴🇬🇧
Lucy Morgan (from Dexys Midnight Runners) is brilliant on violin. And you've just gotta love her smile at 2:09. It's so nice that Craig & Charlie left her centre stage for the last part of the song.
Greetings from Spain. I love this song. It reminds me of all the good days spent in Edimburgh and Dundee with my students.
Played at my grandads funeral. Brings back good memories of him. Thankyou
This is the most lovely song I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.I don't speak your words but brother, I can feel your heart and soul.
This is the first time I've seen the song performed live, but I've played it dozens of times from the album. I didn't expect to be this moved by it. Always a wonderful song, but feeling the passion of the crowd singing along to the whole of it is intense! Deepest thanks and greetings from the US.
Listen to the hibs fans singing it when they won the cup
As a Rangers fan I'v got to say this is the greatest ever football anthem.
I'm Celtic...I agree
Yes you are right a gers fan here but hearing that and especially the response from the balconies in Edinburgh. stay safe.
Well unfortunately I’ve got terminal cancer, and my time is nearly up . Don’t know wether it’s going to be Simply the Best (another Rangers fan ! ) , Sunshine on Leith, or Highland Cathedral. All epics for music to go out of the church with.
James White so sorry to hear that. Glad you can find peace through some incredible music.
@@jameswhite2303 God speed.
Get choked up every time the chorus comes around. Can't even get past "While I'm worth" without a lump in the throat
It's funny how happy a song can make you even if the word "sorrow" is repeated again and again.
qupp75 Its a happy song :)
As a Welshman this touches me. Us Celts can sing there is no denying it .
I don't know why but every time I hear this song - my Irish tears start flowing - thank you to my fellow Scottish Celtic soul brothers.
My favourite The Proclaimers song.
+Anne Ryan great great song, the Reid boys at their best.
Mine to now xx
I mean.. this IS the song... it transcends everything... and they play it so beautifully.... I've watched this 5000 times....
Me too; wonderful song, beautifully sung.
This is glorious, the emotion felt by the whole crowd. The lyrics are so simple but so strong because it just speaks truth. That violin, what can I say.......except BRAVO love Rose xx
We have songs in Ireland that mean so much but this won gets me going every time thank you Scotland
Hi padraic yes you have great songs in Ireland. I'm Scottish but half Irish because my mum came from Ireland . but thank you for the kind words about our Scottish songs. Scott
Thank you for the information thank you
@Catholic Conor thank you. My mum miss her home town of Ireland . I was born in Scotland
My dog was born in Dublin does that make me irish
@@gerryguinn3175 well you are lucky your dog likes you because I’d say very few do
I love that the crowd is singing the harmony.
Walking across an empty York racecourse a year or so ago the staff were testing the public address system / tannoy. They played this wonderful piece of music. I was there being carried away on a beautiful wave of Sunshine on Leith.
A lifelong memory.
Just played in Brisbane Australia. I'm fae Kirkcaldy ,living in Australia. I'll never forget ma heritage.
as if you could...
Where in Kirkcaldy mate ???
Geordie Munro is the way to go COYR
You must have ptsd from growing up in Kirkcaldy mate 😂
I'm from Indonesia and I love The Proclaimers so much. Especially this song, it always relaxes me. I love the melody, the lyrics, the arrangement, and how people always sing along with it.
You got Aden, best wishes from Scotland.
Ever since I bought their first album This Is The Story, I hoped that they would catch on because I admire attests who choose to sing in their own accent ❤❤
Who else watched this and fell in love with the violinist?
Yes that's Lucy Morgan from Dexys Midnight Runners....she's has those amazing dimples doesn't she
I first heard this in my fathers best friends funeral , this song is awesome , it epitomises that man . Was an honour to carry his coffin. RIP
Any man that wants you to carry his coffin a=is a man worth knowing. Count yourself as blessed and I'm sorry for your loss
Does it matter , what a cracking song and lyrics, get a grip all bigots , brilliant song from scottish performers
Brought up in Leith and it wasn't always sunny. We had very little money and the streets were not always safe but I was fed, clothed and had lots of love so I remember it fondly.
Such a beautiful song and makes me even more proud to be Scottish 🏴❤️
One of the best songs ever written. Absolutely beautiful.
I love the way Craig and Charlie move to the side of the stage so the violinist takes all the ovation at the end class acts the both of them....
But who was she ... doesn't look like Erica Nockalls ... looks more like Sharon Corr!
This one is Lucy J Morgan mate the Welsh violinist....
Ah! Thanks, bro!
She does a wonderful job. Erica is fab but this is so mournful and passionate.
What, as opposed to dancing in front of her like morons, Einstein?
Craig & Charlie are gods in my view, absolutely legends. My favourite song ever, having it played at my funeral whenever that is
james buckie Nae rush. Cracking song.
As a Celtic fan we sing many great songs but I am jealous of Hibernian for having this song. One of the best sounds at a football ground is hearing this being sung at full voice by the Hibees fans.
YIP!!Same 💚
When the violinist smile and shows her dimples, I melt.
Yes! And they all let her have the stage
a couple of brothers who write complex songs and make them sound simple. i cant imagine how it must feel to have all of Scotland singing your lyrics back at you.
Reminds me of that glorious day back in 2005 when the whole stadium sang this song at easter road.
This has got to be one of the best footy anthems ever made and I’m from England 👌🏻
As an ulster gers man i love this. The chief is god. Beautifull song.
Celtic fan here. It’s good we can put the football aside to appreciate an amazing song
I’m a very proud Welshman.... but hell this wonderful song makes me want to be Scottish! 🏴🏴 well done you fantastic people ❤️
'While I'm worth my room on this Earth......', is one of the most perfect lines ever written. Acceptance that we're not here forever and our contribution is limited!
My heart was broken
My heart was broken
Sorrow, sorrow

You saw it, you claimed it
You touched it, you saved it
My tears are drying

Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness
While I'm worth
My room on this Earth
I will be with you
While the Chief
Puts sunshine on Leith
I'll thank Him
For His work
And your birth
And my birth
Yeah, yeah, yeah
My heart was broken
My heart was broken
Sorrow, sorrow
Sorrow, sorrow
My heart was broken

You saw it, you claimed it
You touched it, you saved it
While I'm worth
My room on this Earth

While the Chief
Puts sunshine on Leith
I'll thank Him
For His work
And your birth
And my birth

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Is that for the three morons who can't understand the CLEARLY ENUNCIATED words?
I'm Welsh and never been to Leith but this is still one of my favourite songs of all time and gives me goosebumps.
I'm English. Me too.
Ditto. Welsh but feel a connection to this song. Beauty
Thanks to Children in Need 2021 I have just been introduced to this song. What a beautiful and emotional song. The lyrics are so poignant. Just thinking of all the love ones I've lost 🙏🏽❤️
Awwww that so sweet. I am glad you got something from it. I suppose thats the real mesage from a song, not so much what the writer ment. More from what you take
It made David Tennant’s voice break - so emotional.
I am so sorry for your loss. I hope this beautiful song helps and comforts you.
This is now a song I want playing when they carry me out. My dad loved this song, we didn't play it at his funeral, as my " family " didn't know it, my dad loved this song.
As a Dundee F.C. supporter this is without the greatest football anthem ever. Glory, Glory too the Hibees. Turnball's Tornadoes: Erich Schadler "Shades" you were Hibee & a Dee RIP mate.
I was born in Scotland to a Scottish father and English Mother whilst they were visiting my Dads family but was raised my entire life in England.... So it’s fair to say I’ve always struggled with my identity a bit!! 😂😂
It matters not when you listen to such a beautiful and emotional song.... Only music can bring people together like this!
I’m the same mate. My dad was Scottish my mum was from Belfast and I was born in the East end of London. My identity is all over the place!! Think it’s safe to say my blood is Celtic tho.
Commitment, passion and love - sung as only the Scottish people can!
I moved to Scotland in 2017 for work, and I was introduced to so much more of their music. Such a fantastic band. This is one of me favs to be honest.
Omg I love the way they sing ma heart ma tears. Scottish to the bone. Bloody fantastic song.
One of the finest songs ever written, recorded & produced
This song is the only reason I wouldn't mind if the Hibees won every Scottish cup from here on. Magical!
Im not Scottish but love this beautiful song. Great to hear it sung live. Btw I cry when I hear it 😊
There are no words to describe just how beautiful this Hibee's anthem is. Saw them play this live 3 days ago in Solihull and it seemed like the whole crowd sang along with every word. Much admiration from this Man United supporter!!
