Are you still alive? No illumination, running red lights, travel on the wrong side of the road, veering between lanes. Sorry, but the only word I can think of is 'stupid'.
Do you always use straps/ rattraps or do you ever use cleats. I'm a road bike fella and I honestly find looks/spds easier to get in and out of vs staps
Just some random's opinion but clipless should work fine unless you're heavy on skidding...in that regard, you may have to look into the pros vs cons on straps and pedals on retention. Fixed gear riders for the most part are into the joy of the ride without fussing too much over kit, so straps just fits the aesthetic of being able to wear more relaxed shoes.
I've used SPD, SPD-SL, Keo, and clips. They're all fine to get in and out. I'm guessing the heel out clipping out mechanism could be a hindrance to skidding in an emergency

Only straps because of a skateboard background. But I would use clips for race.
