They can both be confusing regarding the continuity to the newer reader. DC with their vast multiverses, dark multiverses and omniverse lol but Marvel has a multiverse then Merged everything so yeah...lol the newer reader may get confused initially if they don't do a little homework. DC's is more in order chronologically easier to follow though than Marvels multiverse.

I wasn't much of a comic reader, a few months ago I watched invincible and it brought me back into the super hero mood, so I was suddenly reminded of batman and started rewatching batman the animated series, before I knew it I started reading the comics only for him and I have to agree with your point about DC characters, they really have more than what we see from the outside, I never realized how much each character has to offer and they start to grow on me, even the ones I didn't care about much ,before ,like flash, all thanks to batman I am glad I found the desire to finally get into comics.

Hi BJ! I really enjoy your channel and your unboxings. If I could recommend a great addition to your DC collection. There's a new omnibus coming out of the 80's definitive catalogue of heroes and villains WHO'S WHO. It's going to collect all 26 issues plus the updates. It's a great piece of history and it's really cool to learn a lot of obscure trivia about the characters, plus it's filled with classic art!
I collected them when I was very very little from my grandparents when they originally came out and am looking forward to the omnibus.

I agree that with your premise on DC having more stand-alone stories to pick up over Marvel creator runs. I too prefer DC to Marvel. Although my favorite character between the Big 2 is Daredevil. My all-time favorite character in all of superhero comics is Ninjak from Valiant. If you haven't, you should check out comics in the Valiant Universe published between 2012 and 2018. The shared Valiant Universe (between 2012 and 2018) is head and shoulders above the Big 2 when it comes to continuity in a shared universe. You can find some of their best ongoing series in TPBs and hardcovers for Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Unity, Imperium, Ivar Timewalker, and Bloodshot Reborn. For good stories in these series, check out Armor Hunters, The Valiant, Harbinger Wars, Book of Death, and 4001AD.

Nice video, man! I like what you said about talking about things you love, rather than going for hate clicks like it's popular to do these days. I agree with a lot of your points. DC is easier to get into than Marvel continuity-wise, although I think both can get quite convoluted. I got into comic reading through DC New 52 as well. That was the first time I didn't feel daunted about picking titles and jumping into them, so I'll always be a bit of a New 52 apologist for that reason (plus I think it had a few really good titles). However, Spider-Man is my favorite superhero, and that's largely because of his "With great power comes great responsibility" mantra, and because I feel he's relatable in so many ways. That said, I get what you mean when you say that Marvel characters are "cooler" than DC, as that was how I felt for much of my childhood watching the cartoons.

Great vid, BJ. I got into comics through DC for many of the same reasons, but particularly the interesting characters and clear starting points. There is something missing from your analysis, though: naming. I think we can agree that DC doesn't have a great track record when it comes to naming villains. I mean, Captain Boomerang, Mr Freeze, Captain Cold, Reverse Flash, and The Thinker? Really? 😂

Its funny, while all your points make sense, I always loved D.C. for the exact opposite reason. When I first started comics, DC was the company that was more into continuity. Characters grew and moved around titles. Robin became Nightwing and went to the Titans. Kyle Rayner dated Donna Troy (Who became a member of the Darkstars) and went on cruises with Wally West and Conner Hawke. Everyone got drinks at Warriors. Books really didnt stand on their own as much as it was a whole universe that worked together. Even the 5 Superman books at the time worked more like one weekly continuous story. Then how all these different things effect the Legion of Superheroes!
It was a lot different then Marvel where It seemed every character fit in its own different world. If Spiderman showed up in the Avengers, he didnt really fit in and felt awkward. And the idea of Daredevil joining them for an adventure seemed weird. It seemed the X-men were in a different world than Captain America. One book was about race relations this huge issue that effected the world and it was almost never brought up at all in Cap or the Avengers.
Bendis, as much as people bash him, was the one that finally made it feel like one cohesive world where these people would actually know each other's names and call each other if help was needed.
Which is not to say I disagree with your points. They are spot on. It's just funny to me that they are both true and make us both like DC for exact opposite reasons.

I started reading DC in the early 80s and continued to read until the New 52, which is the biggest pile of comicbook trash in history. Subsequently, Rebirth promised to return the continuity I grew up with and loved but that was a blatant lie and just kept the new 52 mostly. So I despise DC because they decided that loyal readers from previous decades weren't as important as noobs and kooks. #notmydc
