Punchline made HUGE waves when she was introduced by James Tynion and Jorge Jimenez last year, but many fans were dismissive of her. In this video, I break down what makes Punchline such a great character, and why I'm excited to see her story play out. I fully agree that the Punchline one-shot issue was where I really began to enjoy the character-arc of Punchline. Especially watching her podcasts through the eyes of Bluebird's impressionable brother Cullen and the way it twists him into loving her simultaneously with my own. I thought that was an amazing mind game, twisting the reader's interest against them, while Harper is actively warning of the danger.
Awesome take on punchline. My first take when I saw her was this is a perfect nightmare for Harley...she's an unsatisfied sadistic woman...and I'm intrigued on what's to Come.
I actually find Punchline to be a more interesting and believable character than Harley. Also, agree with you that she could become a very significant member of Batman's rogue's gallery, if handled properly. Tynion has done a great job with his run so far, and Punchline is one of his best contributions.

I really hope she doesn't end up being abused by Joker. Harley and Joker would've been a fun couple if it weren't for the abuse...lol. Seeing a crazy homicidal couple who actually like each other would be refreshing and not have Alexis be abused to have a character arc. Have him see her as his equal.
From what I've read, Alexis is more crude and ruthless...not someone who I can see mellowing. The kind of person Joker would see as his equal.
Same. Harley would be so much cooler as jokers part of a dream team rather than having toxic relationship. It made me also kinda hate joker even tho hes an amazing character
I also find Punchline to be an interesting character, so long as they remember not to make her too over powered. She's a bit delusional in a way because she wants to be an equal partner to Joker and believes that she understands what he stands for. But he doesn't really stand for what she thinks he does. Imo that is why he's amused by her. She would either end up killed by him, or she'll go separate ways from him because she is more interested in the goal whereas Joker is really just in it for the lols. She could be a decent villain though.

Informative video! I find the Punchline design and concept very intriguing, but I've been on the fence since I wasn't sure if she was a gimmick character or not. To be fair though, I think people would say she's a gimmick regardless. Now I definitely want to read stories with her character!

What are your thoughts about Joker fatigue? He's a iconic villain without a doubt, but it seems like he's been showing up over and over lately.

Im very new to comics and have only read Mad Love yet but Punchline is actually the character that got me into reading comics now because i bought a CBCS cover variant of the Punchline #1 a year ago simply because i freaking love her design and outfit. Ofc i already know and love Harley and Batman and his villains but never read any comics but now i ordered The Gotham Game full line 1-5 and am very excited to read it. I dont understand people that talk her down just cause shes jokers GF and call her a Harley knockoff because she has clearly almost nothing in common with Harley and what we love about Harley. I appreciate to whitness a complete new creation of a DC Character in my lifetime and i hope Punchline will appear in live action or animated media soon :D Also a Harley vs Punchline comic story would be amazing! Hope they make something like that someday

Punchline is FAR BETTER than Harley Quinn, Harley is overrated, at least current Harley, only cause she´s hot, pre Flashpoint was... fine.
No I think people mostly like punchline because shes hot. Punchline is just more intimidating than Harley ever was.

Tynion created like 100 new villains for one reason and none of them are becuase he cares. He wants ONE to stick and maybe make it into a game or a movie for royalty checks. Thats why punchline exists, and its why i can not care. There was no love, there was the chase for dollars. Its why i hate his run overall, its just nonstop new creations.
Im not sure if youre new, or what. But harleys had "her agency" for over a DECADE now, that aint new.
