Rather prescient of BMW. All new cars sold within the EU will have to be fitted with such software from 2025, I believe.
Putting it in eco had me dead 😂
As a previous RX8 owner, those half-width suicide doors are actually brilliant and give you the same entry and egress space as a regular door, because you sort of slide into the back seat around the front ones, being that there is no central dividing pillar between the doors.
Probably the only thing brilliant about the i3 😂

I think that the reason James May said that Jeremy wanted the 3 door variant in red is because that was the variant he drove in top gear against the 1 series

"Amazing" isn't the term i would use. "Awesome" is probably more fitting.
Electric cars still aren't practical for anybody that doesn't live in a city. Its just a weather weenie wet dream. They'll never replace ICE vehicles without governments forcing on people. Most people dont want a car that takes hours to refuel only to go 200 miles. That wont even get you from one major city to the next in the Western US. You'd have to stop twice just going from LasVegas to Phoenix and add hours of trip time to charge the stupid thing. Batteries will always suck for range. Its the fault in this fuel source.
Give it another decade all the electric cars will be tiny terrible little things nobody wants but thats all that will be available on the market due to government overreach.
I drove this small electric long time ago and very very unexpectedly i fell in love how it is fast in a city, very agile

TBH isn't the BMW i3 speed limited to an absurdly low & limited top speed anyway? Also, isn't the i3 an economy car against Volkswagen's GTI Hot Hatchback? It's like comparing a Toyota Prius with a Honda Civic Type-R.
But James claimed that it was faster which isn't, so jeremy has to prove him that he was wrong 🤷♂️...

My uncle is a farmer - he drives a 4.6L V8 Range Rover - the tax payers bought that for him - along with his other 11 cars.
The same uncle that called me a scrounger for claiming unemployment after I had been made redundant. Farmers don't see subsidies as socialism. They see it more as a "hard work bonus" or something noble like that.
Everything Jeremy does in these scenes is pure genius. His irony, his character, his lines - just so funny!

It's sad that manufacturers use these skinny tyres to improve driving range, but compromise safety with much lower grip levels
They are a softer compound and have plenty of grip. Read a few reviews - they confirm that handing is good too. I’ve driven one.
Handling is not grip. E-cars are heavier -> less grip. Smaller contact patch on the tyre with the road -> less grip. It's basic car dynamics physics.
Yeah and many car reviews nowadays are just ads with more praising than criticism
I am aware of the difference between grip and handling but the two are related. Reviews aren’t always ads, but I did include that it’s based on my own experience.
I’m not interested in a debate but I’ll finish with this - weight can increase grip (the R-35 GTR used this to it’s advantage and I believe it was considered in the design) and rubber compounds can compensate for less contact patch; otherwise your argument would mean that a larger contact patch would compensate for harder tyres - and different compounds of tyres in F1 wouldn’t make a difference.
Also, the i3 is one of the lighter BEVs - it’s weight and tyre width are perfectly acceptable on the road, in my 3-days of mixed weather experience, including spirited cornering and braking as I was considering purchasing one.

On short distance BMW definitely can win the race, long distance forget it .BMW max speed is 95 m/h VW is like 140 m/ph way faster 😅
@@elingrato2403 You can't drive at the speed limit for like 99.9% of your driving, so it's kind of a pointless mention. EVs are designed to be practically good, and they are. The golf is the last kick of a dinosaur, majestic but ultimately tragic and irrelevant.

If it's an autobahn, then it's not outrageous for Europe, as that's only about $10K more than the US models. In many parts of Europe, a base Golf is $45K, with the GTI more like $55-60K, and the Golf R at about $80K due to gas taxes. It's why the Mustang in the united states is like $35K vs $120K in Europe.

@@Markcain268 - I've never complained about a penny of the tax I paid, and I have paid a lot. It's what they spend it on that I have an issue with. I want my taxes to go to people who need it and the services the country needs, not to line the pockets of Tory donors.
Though I have to be careful what I say, cos I have not lived in the UK for 12 years and where I live now we don't pay a lot in tax and we get a HELL of a lot for what we pay.

What I can't work out is if it is called "the congestion charge" why are electric cars exempt? Does an electric Mini that is the same size as a petrol Mini not cause the same amount of congestion?
Dont worry...in another couple of years all the smug EV drivers will be paying full charge just like everyone else. Well that is if they can get enough electricity to actually make it to London. Or anywhere.
It's congestion charge for everyone, but EVs get a pass because it's incentive for people to adopt less polluting vehicles. EVs get a pass in a lot of things and also get paid money on purchase because the oil industry has been getting tax payer money for decades and it's only fair to level the playing field now. It's not that complicated if you let go of your prejudice and actually use your brain, however little you have left.
