These videos always seem to soothe my weathered soul. I found Kent a handful of years back after I had returned from my first deployment and his videos gave me this wonderful, nostalgic feeling of being at home again when I felt like everything had changed in the world for me. Sometimes all you need in life is a cast-iron, Dutch oven, and a man of true hospitality to make you feel at home again.

My family has been making monkey bread, which they call pull apart bread, for many many years since my childhood, for Christmas morning. I don't mind the recipe that is continually used, but a couple of years ago I began to realize there were other ways of making it. When suggesting it though, I am always told that if I want to try different stuff, I can make my own to have on the side. None of the recipes I have seen have really motivated me that much to do that, so I haven't, but now I see that Cowboy Kent is making monkey bread?! I am going to make it, for sure.

I first heard of monkey bread in the 1960s. Never did eat any though so I've never had a clear idea of what it actually is or how it's made; but, in my wildest dreams, I never imagined that these ingredients were in it and that was how it's made. It looks delicious. Now I've got 50-some odd years of catching up to do.

    Easy Sticky Buns
    12-inch Dutch oven

    1 can cream cheese frosting
    2 (12-ounce) cans flaky biscuits
1 to 2 cups mixed chocolate chips and peanut butter chips
    1. Line Dutch oven with foil and spray with non-stick spray.
    2. Spread can of frosting over bottom of Dutch oven.
    3. Cut biscuits in half. Place 2 chocolate chips and 2 peanut butter chips in the middle of each biscuit and pinch up like a volcano. Place biscuits on top of frosting.
    4. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips and peanut butter chips over the top.
    5. Bake using 15 coals on top and 8 on bottom until biscuits are golden brown. Check after 10 minutes, rotate oven and lid to prevent burning.
    6. Tip pan over onto a plate or pizza pan to serve. Let sit for a minute before removing foil.
    • Variation 1: Original recipe used caramel frosting with chocolate chips.
    • Variation 2: Use lemon frosting and place 2 blueberries in each biscuit piece.
Or use a 9x13-inch pan and bake in a preheated 325° oven for the times shown above.
