I say don't allow them to move it. Ticket, boot and tow the car. Impound it for a month. If a ticket doesn't matter to them, maybe losing the car daddy bought will get the point across.

My father lived to be 83 years old. He was a disabled veteran, sustaining a leg injury that caused a limp for 60 years and gave him terrible arthritis in his hips as he aged. He was 100% disabled, and had a triple bypass when he was in his late 50s. Not ONCE did he ever use a handicapped spot in his entire life, even though he deserved to use them. He said to leave them for the people who really needed them. To see obviously able bodied people use them is maddening.

My father had two heart attacks by the rime he was 45. He was a successful man with 7 children. He passed away at 68 from congestive heart failure. He was always very active, playing golf and racquet ball. He had a pacemaker and also was fighting bladder cancer when he passed away. His doctor offered him a handicap tag but my dad refused! He had to much pride, he didn’t want to take a space that someone else may need. There isn’t any pride anymore, pride in doing the right thing, it’s sad.

First, dont assume people do not need handicapped placards because "they look fine". You don't know why they need a placard.
Second, while in California the minimum fine for a handicapped parking violation is $275, after court fees it can be upwards of $500+. Think twice before parking in the white hashed area between two handicapped spots. Some fools think it's for motorcycles - it's not. It's to allow people with wheelchairs, walkers, etc., enough room to safely exit their cars with their mobility aids. Parking in this spot will get you TWO tickets because you are blocking two handicapped spaces and will get double the fines.

First offense maybe $300.00 to $500.00 fine, Second offense $1000,00 Third offense $5000,00, vehicle impounded for 14 days and license suspended for 14 days, 4th offense $10,000, vehicle impounded for 30 days and license suspension for 3 - 6 months. That's my opinion on it. These unempathetic pricks see no big deal with the fact that they inconvenienced and or made the life of someone who's not able bodied much more difficult, total narcissists.

An important factor to remember is that being disabled isn’t just about being in a wheelchair or relying on an assist device. 6 years ago I had congestive heart failure and couldn’t walk from my car to my work building or to the grocery store from the parking lot without passing out so I had a handicap placard that I used until my heart transplant. Outwardly I looked fine but I was very weak and would become breathless just from walking 10 feet and I moved very slowly, so please don’t judge based on that alone.

I am walking better than I have since 2007. I do have sometimes when my legs give out on me. I try to park fairly close but rarely use a handicapped spot. Depends if I am having a bit of a struggle. I have handicap plates and placard. My issue is a pinch nerve in my lower spine, which effects my walking/standing. So walking my leg(s) get weak, be in pain and I would have a hard time walking then. In Florida, the handicap placard has the drivers license number of the person it was assigned to. I've seen in another state they have to picture of the person on the placard. That would be great if every state did this. When ever I see a person parked in a handicap spot and no handicap placard or license plate I usually call the police. This video is spot on, I see people doing this all the time.

Nobody needs to know your disability. It's none of their damn business. If you have the placard that's all that matters.

I just want to elaborate what that elderly handicap person said about seeing people using the parking spots and not looking handicapped. Not all patients that have the placards look sick or disabled. As a cardiovascular nurse I have patients that look great but their hearts are failing them, they need to park as close as they can to obtain their meds and groceries. They don’t want to sit in the car just be able to act as normal as possible. I have a young girl in her 20’s that had been in a wheelchair for 7 yrs due to Lyme Disease that was now able to walk and looks great but gets easily tired. The saying goes, you can’t tell a book by its cover!

With the guy like this it’s the culture.

I'm a disabled combat veteran and I see this all the time. Unless you have officers constantly keeping an eye on these spots, there's little that can be done about it. I actually have a Disabled Veteran license plate but the DMV will only issue tags for one car for the veteran. In addition I am issued placards and those are in my wife's car that I can also use to place in other vehicles that I'm riding in. Most people don't realize that those of us with handicap parking privileges also receive an ID card for the handicap and the police can check for this ID to ensure that you're not using a placard that was not issued to you

One man in the video said a lot of the people parking in handicap spaces don’t have anything wrong with them. My husband has a handicap plate on his car, and a hangtag for when he is in my car. He gets a lot of dirty looks from people, when he parks in a handicap space. His injury and medical condition isn’t visibly obvious, but is real nonetheless.
Just by looking at what someone looks like, or how they walk, you can’t tell whether or not they have a medical condition, which necessitates them to have to use handicap parking spaces.
I agree there are a lot of people who misuse the handicap spaces. My point is you can’t just tell by looking at someone to know whether or not they are legitimately handicap.

Many years ago, a friend and co-worker who was wheel chair bound had a way to deal with this issue. He had the old nail in a stick that many people used to pick up trash...when he saw someone that was parked illegally in a handicapped spot...he would "accidentally" stick two of it their tires...then have an employee call the police to have the vehicle towed.
It was amazing to watch these a-holes freak out that not only were their cars being towed away but also that they were getting a ticket and would have to buy need tires.

When first exiting a car I don't move to bad. After walking around for awhile things start to hurt. I was on a job once where we all parked & got on a bus taking us down to the job. There was only one handicap parking spot. I noticed it never got used & talked to the office about it. My concern was, there's only one & someone may need it more than me. During my drivers training in high school I was practicing on the road with my teacher/instructor and he had us go to a gas station. As we pulled in he said he was going inside to get a drink then pointed to a spot and said "park there".
I pulled into the spot he pointed to and put the car in park. I waited for him to get out but after about a minute he looked at me and asked why I parked in this spot. I looked at him completely confused. I asked, "what do you mean?"
He pointed out of the front window and hanging on the wall was a handicap sign.
"You can't park here it's a space for disabled people."
I already knew we couldn't park in a handicap spot, but I then realized he did that to make sure I understood that I needed to pay attention to where I park and told me that would be a 100 dollar citation (at the time).

Posted on a similar video: I used to work security at a hospital. I saw a car with four younger individuals park in a handicapped parking spot, get out of the vehicle, and literally run inside, laughing. I parked behind them, blocking them in, then popped the hood of the car to take the rotor from beneath the distributor cap. I then called the central station to have a tow-truck dispatched. They came back out before the truck arrived, and were freaking-out when I told them it was on the way. They begged me to move my car to let them leave, to which I obliged. Of course, they cranked and cranked until the battery died. It was only after they were on the hook that I calmly handed the rotor back to the driver. Yeah, I was a dick.

An $80 fine only disincentives someone who would be considered lower income, but someone like that rich asshole couldn't care less, he could rack up a dozen $80 fines like that in a day and not even notice.
If you make over a certain amount of money, $100-150K (idk, i'm not sure what qualifies as "rich" in that area) the fine should increase to $800, or even more if you are a higher income bracket.

First ticket a fine, second one vehicle gets impounded ! This ignorance pisses me off for all the disabled people!

The only way to fix it is to tow it to impound where it will stay for 4 weeks. Then a fine of $500 to get it back.
