  • Step-by-step on upgrading / installing new memory on a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop. E6530 is pretty much the same. With the back open the fan can be cleaned up as well.

    Many thanks for this. It's always nice to have someone confirm which screws to remove and that you can pull at something (the back) to remove it when it feels like you might be about to break it!

    Thanks for the excellent video. Your instructions were very clear and precise. I upgraded my Latitude 6430 to 16 GB ram using 2 modules and i love the improved performance.

      just put 2 sticks of 8 in... thats what i did and it worked.

      yes, it works. I have tried too with two 2x8GB PC3 - 10600 CL9 204 Pin SODIMM Memories. These are with low voltages: 1,5V.

    I’m confused. Do they have to have the same numbers as on the tag or do you mean it has to be the same type? (Like same brand it was made by)

    Made upgrading my memory a breeze, but I did not have to remove the 2 screws at the hard disk, just the three along the back.

    Just a quick note, DRAM is pronounced D-RAM not DRAM when referring to memory.

    Is any type of ram compatible with the E6430? I just bought a set of 2 8gb ram and it didn’t work. It actually made my laptop crash. It was basically telling me my hard drive or OS was corrupt.
    I put the old ram back in and fixed it reluctantly.

      Alright I wont even try then. As for memory I can buy a 8gb memory and just put it in one slot and It would be recognized right?. Because I want to upgrade the memory to 16gb but as of now I can afford just one 8gb memory at a time.

    Could the e6430 work properly as a family daily driver (no gaming) in 2021 ?
    Just let me add I need some amateurish photoshop job on my Nikon digital files and then I'm happy.At around €250,00 seems a good buy to me,however any suggestion is welcome :-)

    One major thin you did wrong in this video is never handel the ram chip in this fashion you always want to hold in by the edges so your fingers dont touch and chips,solder points,or pins. It only takes 1 volt of static discharge to damage a ram chip. 1 volt is so little you cant feel it or see it happen

    I purchased my old e6430 from work that was emptied. I first opened it up like in this video to see the ram, so I can later buy the exact same one. Then I inserted the win7 disc and started to install it. During the installation I could see flickering artifacts. I then installed all drivers, cause it didn't have any (chipset, both gpus etc...) gpus are intel hd 4000 and Nvidia nvs 5200m.Artifacts are still there. They occur sometimes when browsing the net, booting windows... I don't play games... Motherboard was really stuck when I removed it, could it be loose or could I have damaged it? Could dust be the problem?

      I disabled Nvidia, no change. Enabled it and disabled intel HD 4000, no change. What should I try next? New ram? All drivers should be up to date. I updated to win10, and the problem remains.

    I have the Nvidia 5200m version of this laptop. But mine has an issue, it runs slow when its plugged in, and runs better on battery. Please i don't know what the cause is, do you have any possible solution.

      you can change your options in settings to make it a "high peformance" plan that relies on it being plugged in

      It coul'd also be an AC power adapter default. Check if it's give the good power (in W) recommended by Dell.
