    For the custom clearance, you might be able to shortcut lines if you fill the VisitJapan Web (Might be the same depends on the airport and time of arrival). vjw-lp.digital.go.jp/en/ 🚩Please note that Japanese government is warning that there is a fake app. of Visit Japan Web that ask your credit card information. There is no app for VisitJapanWeb.

      From a recent experience: If you are traveling with an elderly relative and are assisting them with their luggage, you might get flagged by Japanese customs officials for having too many pieces of luggage in your cart and be required to go through extra scrutiny. Be sure to process all your QR codes at the customs self-service kiosk, not just yours, even when a customs representative tells you that your QR coded customs declaration alone is sufficient for everyone traveling in your party. Process each and every code through the self-service kiosk.

      I arrived about 2 weeks ago and had gotten my QR code while waiting for the plane to take off. I assumed that most people on the plane had also filled out their customs declaration at VisitJapan Web. (I have also seen a YT video that claims you save time by NOT using this site.) Well, apparently only a few of us on the plane had used it because I breezed through customs and there was NO ONE in the line for QR codes. Whereas there were probably 200 people in the "card" line. Get that QR code! I arrived at Haneda, by the way.

      Adding a detail--the person who was meeting me at the airport had estimated that I'd emerge from customs one hour later than I actually did. Using that app saved me almost an hour of waiting in line.

      Thank you for your support! As for the Narita Express, you cannot get other trains in case you miss it, so it might be better not to make reservation online. Also, you need to get tickets anyway at machine, so it might be safer to get a ticket there. The line of machine and if you can get the ticket for the next NEX can really depends on the day and time of the airport. I saw T1 was empty while T2 was busy around 4pm when I was there for this video. Hope you have a great trip.

      @TheModsRE4 It's amazing here,the train system is wayyy easier to understand than I thought it would be, it's so convenient!!!! Everything is going smoothly, be aware,in Kyoto,it's super super crowded with tourists compared to Tokyo or Osaka, no matter at what hour you go,so far the food has been heaven, the prices are very cheap for the food ,please don't get into the touristy restaurants,they charge you way more, it's still very humid and hit here.

    Thank you! The first few hours of the first trip to Japan is the hardest because you are so tired and there’s so much to do in addition to getting through immigration. The flight is 12 hours from San Francisco plus getting to the airport two hours early (recommended for international flights) to get through security. Nice to know there are many transportation choices. I think it will be less stressful the second time. Can you do a video about finding recommended private guides or tours in the less touristy areas? Or a video about travel in less touristy areas and small towns? I think some quiet country places might not have good transportation other than car. I don’t feel confident driving in another country but I would like to see the countryside. Your videos are very helpful!

    In my last trip to Japan in March, there were still all those covid rules, proof of vaccinations and immigration roadblocks! My wait in lines from landing to out of the immigration gate was >1.5 hours. It was 30 hours travel time from Peru to Tokyo and the jet lag, I was so exhausted! Glad that the covid days are all over. Awesome work and informative video, Kengo.

    The trains in Japan are very easy to use as all the signs are also in English. We've been using the buses in Kyoto too, so easy and cheap to use, 230yen per trip with all signage in English it's a doddle. Some train stations, shinjuku esp can be a bit confusing but people will always be glad to help. We love it, Japan is a fabulous country. If people are thinking a holiday in Japan is expensive then after the air fare it's very very good value, 5 nights in Osaka for us is £118GBP - a bargain.

    Never exchange money at an exchange counter if you can help it. ATMS mainly the 7-11 ones give a better rate of exchange than the banks and the exchange counters at the airport will ever give. Tested to confirm back in 2017 and got on average 10 yen more per dollar than the exchange counter would so if you do a big exchange at the start of your trip consider using the ATMs over taking money to exchange. The ATMS in Japan are safe when compared to warring about scams like in Europe or the US with skimmers and such, not saying they are 100% safe, just saying that it is highly unlikely for you to have an issue unless you end up in the worst spot in the whole country and which point I kind of want to know where you ended up at.

    1. Use JAL ABC storage service can be up to 900 yen per day each luggage
    2. Delivery 2 or more luggages to our hotel in Kawaguchi. Not sure how long it will take, maybe 2 days or next day. Cost $18 or 2800 yen each I believe.

    Prep in advance, especially the wi-fi egg, currency exchange and your luggage. If you have a local JTB or H.I.S. office, you may be able to obtain a wi-fi egg through them instead of ordering it online, but of course, you can order online if you are comparing prices. Best to do your currency exchange through your local bank instead of at the airport, you'll likely get a better rate. And bring a coin wallet, you'll end up with a LOT of coins in Japan, but spend it BEFORE you leave because you won't be able to exchange coins back at home (unless you want those as souvenirs, or save it for your next trip). If you pack smart, you can travel going TO Japan with just a carry on and include an expandable bag for your omiyage (gifts) that you'll check-in for your return trip.

      Hello. If you avoid areas with night scenes like north east side of Shinjuku stations, west side of Shibuya station, between south of Ueno stations, most other areas are not crazy busy even near the stations. It can be major office areas like Tokyo Station, or typical Tokyo areas mixture of office /residential areas that you might find clean business hotels. If you put importance of easiness with suitcases, either choose a convenience of access to Tokyo stations and Narita Airport and stay near the stations along Yamanote line, or take some metro or private railways to seek more quiet residential areas. I have to think more about this.

    I used a Portable WiFi router when I was in Japan. It worked fine. Just that having to keep another thing charged and the worry about posting back on last day of trip gave me anxiety....Plus having to carry it added weight and took up space when trying to stay light for sightseeing. Also the return envelope was a problem to carry around on my trip.(large).It got soaked during a rain storm and became almost unusable.(had me panicing abit)...So thinking a data sim would be better(solo traveller). No need for extra charging or carrying extra battery packs or large envelopes or having to return it on last day..BUT!..Not sure how much data I would need!..I only need it for navigation (most of the day everyday for 3 weeks) and a little youtube viewing in the evenings (no social media as I have no friends to be social with)....So I have no idea what to get and where...If I get to little and then run out when I need it most for get me panicing.

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I understand. It might be a little difficult to carry the envelopes with backpack. If eSIM works with your phone, it might be the best as you can add little by little online when you used the data up. Or you can purchase 1 month plan if you find a price that you are happy with. I haven't used them but some eSIM company like Ubigi or Holafly (I've put the link in description) seems popular. I think you can find unlimited physical SIM at the airport or Amazon too. You might be able to save some data if you watch CZcams on WiFi at your accommodations. Hope it goes well next time. :)
