This woman--Priscilla Allen--was my drama teacher in high school, she was amazing. She used to pretend to answer the phone and go "Oh Arnold, you MUSN'T call me here, no one can know..."
Two weeks.
That’s so fucking hot. I creamed when she did that.
Cool story. As a drama teacher no doubt you had to learn all your lines in...wait for it...TWO WEEKS.
Torrey Bell-Edwards
Was she as tall as she looks on the movie?
@@conbandera3865 She was 6 ft tall.
I love how the animatronic lady head opens up to reveal yet another Arnold animatronic head.
Yes! But it really looks quite good. Also the animatronics used when Arnold pulls out the tracking device. I think the pacing of the cutting helps. Unlike that repair scene in The Terminator, which lingers on the bad animatronic of Arnold far too long -- I still love that movie though.
the first head was supposed to be animatronic but was a real head edited to look like a robotic head, and the second head was actually an animatronic head supposed to to be a real head. pretty cool all the same.
So like Inception but only in the 80s? ;)
Maybe half stop-motion, half animatronics. The mechanics might not be able to keep up this complex motion in real time. So it might be done at say, 4 fps instead of 24 fps. (Late 80's robotic technology, you get the idea)
A very, very great practical effect however. Took me years to realize how they got this shot done.

It was really Arnold in a real costume that malfunctioned ,but they decided to include it in the movie anyways

Excuse me ????
I can say that as a teenager..THIS..was the GREATEST special effect I'd ever seen. And it still impresses to this day!
So how much longer will it still impress you?
The makeup was done by the genius Rob Bottin. He also did all the special effects makeup for The Thing by John Carpenter. The amazing thing he was only 23 when he invented all the effects for the Thing. He also did the makeup effects transformation for the Howling. He had a falling out with Rick Baker over American Wearwolf in London
Imagine how this makeup effect looked during the days pre-CGI, back when SFX felt like magic and not mundane computer sprites. This was before Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park. I was a teenager when Total Recall came out on VHS and those effects made my eyes pop out further than Cohaagen out in the Mars wastes.
That "Get ready for a surprise 😃" was the most 1990's movie clip to have ever graced the silver screen. Hands down.
Why?
@southlondonguy1986 Because of:
1.) The way it was said
2.) The make up
3.) The set design
4.) The wardrobe
5.) The equipment used to film that scene
That had me dying 😂

I love how Michael Ironside looked back 3 times.
First time was to see what was going on, second time was 'WTF?', and the third time was 'AHA!'
I have a theory that maybe he had seen something like this once before. Perhaps the technology was still pretty rare, and something that only elites like him normally ever had any exposure to. Maybe he had seen one of these heads malfunction once before, and the weird moaning happened on that occasion too.
So maybe at first, he thought it was nothing, maybe a sick person at most - but then he was like "wait...I know that sound...!"
Second time was definitely "wtf" with that face 😂

No they don't they look weird as shit, like I can see the skill that's been put in but it does not hold up

Come on. Yes, it looks unreal but you’re still able to suspend disbelief. As opposed to some wonky ass early 2000s CGI where characters are doing completely unrealistic flips and having no sense of physics, or earlier practical effects in cheap films where you go “it’s a guy in a gorilla suit” or an obvious miniature on a string.
I love how creative this movie is, it’s just one of the things that makes it so great. This type of disguise that malfunctions is well detailed, which makes it even more original. There is enough going on in this entire scene alone that makes this film unique.
Get ready for a surprise! Thank you for using Johnny Cab! Consider dat a divorce!
