- Inside Taliban-Controlled Afghanistan 🇦🇫 Since I started to travel and explore Asia, Afghanistan has always been my dream country. The movies I have watched and the books I have read about Afghanistan have built dreamy expectations in my head of the country that I would not be able to experience anywhere else.
My visit did not disappoint - Afghanistan was time travel from bustling & unorganized bazaars, street shaves, same clothing in different colors, no brands, magnificent landscapes, and the bravest people with the biggest hearts of hospitality.
In my trip, we covered Mazar-i-Sharif, Kabul & Bamyan.
Visiting Afghanistan is a sensitive topic for many people. As in any country I go to, the main objective is to share the day-to-day life and spotlight the ordinary people that the mass media fail to capture. No matter how you feel about my trip, here is my summary.
Despite facing significant challenges, Afghanistan has many positive aspects that deserve recognition: diverse landscapes, rich history, warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, resilient people, and more!
Safety:
This was the biggest concern of many people I have talked to, and naturally, that has been the main worry when you enter a war-torn country over the last 40 years. With the takeover of the Taliban, the country is much safer than before; at least no conflicts are going on.
My Persian surname, which is the same as the current supreme leader of the Taliban, my cultural background, being a man with a +3 years long beard, and looking like one of the locals do not qualify me to talk about safety much when it comes to being a tourist. I had a significant advantage, considering the above.
Disclaimer: This is not a travel advisory. Afghanistan has a government that has not been recognized by any country, with no embassies and international relations. I am a professional traveler who explored the country with an organized guide.

Surma is not only for fashion but its considered good for eyes and will also keep you away from evil eyes .. Its called Gajal in Nepal and Kajol in India which used to be hand make burning some grains in a piece of cloth..

Hi Davud @Davud_Akh, I think your guide didn't give you a good introduction of Surma. Its not at all a mens eyeliner, the original version of Surma comes from a special type of stone which is claimed to help and strengthens the eye sight. Nothing medically proven in the western world but in our religion Islam it is a Sunna from our belobed Prophet PBUH. In the meantime I would like to thank you for visiting my country and giving me some good memories, really appreciate your good work 👏. surma is not just a talibani thing or fashion , Infact prophet muhammad used to apply kohl /surma in his eyes before sleep , and said “ The best of your kohl is ithmid [ antimony ] for it makes the vision clear and makes the eyelashes grow ,”
since muslims uses kohl /surma , and it contains minerals that are beneficial to eyesight , i myself am a witness that some people i know had eye problems as weakness of the vision , pain of eyes and after they constantly applied real kohl /surma to thier eyes they got rid of the problems and one of them had even went many times yo doctor and nothing helped but with kohl /surma she got relief from the pain of her eyes and now all of them uses kohl /surma constantly before sleep , because kohl contains minerals that are extremely beneficial for the eyes ,
i don't know if this kohl /surma that you applied is real or mixed with other things but In Saudi Arabia you can find the Real kohl /surma ,
as other people said surma keeps you away from evil eye is not correct and the kajal which people use in india is not the same as kohl /surma mentioned by prophet muhammad , the kohl /surma which Islam point to is beneficial to eyes and makes the vision clear and the eyelashes grow ,

Afghanistan looks like one of those places that are untouched by modernity and Western culture. No sky scrappers, atheism, fast food or Netflix. It looks much more authentic and local. Most places in the world have lost their charm due to American influence.

I watch your videos of Afghanistan including this episode. I noticed your interpreter gave you wrong historic info about the Hazara people who are ot turkic origin. First he mentioned that Hazaras are recent mmigrants to Afghanistan. This is not true!. The statue that was destroyed by Taliban and you visited in Bamyan were resembling Hazara physical characteristics and that is why they destroyed it. Those statues are as old as 1800 years. How could the creators of them being 800 years immigrants to Afghanistan from Mongolia?
Secondly, your interpreter mentined that Hazaras are a very small minorities in Afghanistan. Hazaras were confirmed as 20% of the populatin of this country in 2002 Bn cknference to form the republican government backed by the USA. There is unfortunately this unjustified and unexplained hatred towads Hazaras in Afghanistan (most probably because they are Shiite). I just wanted to let you know as you have 400k subscriber and your videos are widely viewed. Not sure if you can touch base with this issue in your upcoming videos. Thank you.

Answered by Shaykh ʿAbd al-Muhsin ibn Hamad al-ʿAbbad al-Badr -may Allah have mercy on him- said:
If he wears it to heal and benefit the eye there is no problem with this.
But if he wears it for beautification this could possibly be imitating the women.

Don’t regret please . I know it’s girl thingy. But you just tried it as an Afghanistan culture obviously you are not going to wear this again in life . I haven’t seen men is wearing this in their eyes in Afghanistan. But this was old style powdered eyeliner which even my mum and aunts used to wear in their eyes. But we as a new generation not wearing in our eyes. Davud as this was our part of culture especially for women in the past but one thing is important to tell you that this powdered eyeliner is kind of treating any kind of the watery eyes as well if it is in real form then it’s good for watery eyes because in the past there was no antibiotics or medicine for treating watery eyes. By the way men only use to treat their eyes with this powdered eyeliner. Women used for both treating eyes and fashion as well but in my country pakistan it is not very common any more. This black powder is something herbel inside . So make sure it should be in real form not fake one.
