I'm dragging home a 70 J D with a dead pony motor today. I'm told it runs when pull started. Ten mile drive home. I expect I'll have a lot to learn over the next year. I grew up on an R J D. Should be interesting.
Have you guys ever tried "The Right Stuff" instant gasket maker. As long as your surface is clean you put it on bolt it down and fill it with fluid couldn't bellerive it the 1st time I used it. It's saved me so much money and time making gaskets in my shop. It puts any rtv sealant to shame. I get it at Napa.
I thought I was the only one that had to run back and forth to get the right socket, reassuring to see someone with your experience to the same thing. THANKS!!!
It happens to the best of us especially when someone puts the sockets in the wrong order most of the time I grab them by the order they are in on the rail well they weren't in the rite order lol and the one I wanted was missing
Well.. I always liked the old movies, but most talkies now days are in color.. most silent we're black and white... This is probably the 4th or 5th silent video I've watched this month.. I think it's the second one of yours.. Silly CZcams 🙄 Well, video was great!! Looks good, just need some more paint😁
Have you guys tried Using Simple Green for cleaning? I had good luck with it but like you I’ve used many. Also I have a Stihl backpack blower that I use for drying everything after washing including my car. No more water streaks after the first drive lol. Really like seeing about this pony motor. I have almost no experience with them so I’m enjoying this.
Yep I’ve used a lot of simple green!!!…………that’s the next thing on my list of things I want to get is a Stihl back pack blower!!!! Once we get it back on the tractor we will show how it all works exactly!!
I'm assuming you're trying to keep the 720 as original as possible, I would have bought the conversion kit and went electric start. I kind of like the convenience of only one engine to maintain but I've replaced a few starters on newer 2 cylinders, they are heavy and in awkward places. Under the crankcase in 50, 60 & 70 JD's
Hey buddy what is the name of that stuff u sprad on the motor to get it cleaned cause I've got a motor to change in my sons truck and I've got to clean it before I put back in his truck
Nice to see old iron comming back to life

With de-greasers a guy should be careful. Some could corrode yellow or soft metals and eat rubber or plastics. The 720 is coming along!
Doc
This that stuff is supposed to be safe it "bio degradable" and "pet safe" lol yeah its coming along I cant wait to run it!!!
Love the older tractors don't build them like they use too

We want to keep it original as possible and it's what dad grew up with if a pony is properly taken care of they are trouble free
