What would you want me to explore for a future video? Let me know in the comments!
Maybe the underground ussr music scene
More Vaporwave Subgenres explained?
maybe some underground online-only album gems?
Maybe a look into that project about the worst/best song ever
@@montanajoe4636 I second this, maybe dig into the current CZcams classic vapor and signalwave scenes as well
The dead mall aesthetic is so dark and freewheeling. There is a nearly empty mall in my area that only has a few stores left. Walking through it is so eerie and calm with the occasional surprise of seeing another person. I'll have to listen to this album the next time I go.
Make some music play it at the empty mall and bam you've a stew going.
Just curious, are they winding down the mall for redevelopment, or is it just dead? There have been any number of malls which wound down their tenants before redevelopment, as some tenants have longer leases than others.
I'm beginning to appreciate the amount of effort this guy puts into describing a sound without just playing you the track.
I'm listening
Good video. I like how you touch on the fact that everyones "perception" of the music can be different, even though we're all listening to the same track. Everyone enjoys the songs differently, and that's pretty cool!
For me, the definitive mallwave album will always be Palm Mall Mars, but I like the unsettling atmosphere of signalwave and dead malls. It goes hand in hand with watching urbex videos here on youtube.
Love these reviews you do Pad. One thing I love about the vapor wave thing is the way the artists look at concepts we deal with daily but don’t even think about. Like the sounds of empty rooms etc. As I’ve said before, I’m an old man who grew up in the 70/80’s punk scene and I’m now a lo fi blues artist but you’ve shown me a whole new and wonderful musical universe. Thanks bud!
Much love to og 80s punx from the new vaporwave generation! Old skool punk rules!
Pad, you're timing with this video is perfect. I just got off an old cruise ship's final sailing before it is retired and cut up for scrap. The ship debuted in 1991 and in many ways was still frozen in that era of the late 80s and early 90s that many of the liminal space dead malls showcase. Virtually every surface was covered in some sort of exotic marble, gold cladding, smoked mirrors or neon lights. There was even an entire bar of neon lights and mirrors called The Neon Bar. During my journey I was accompanied by a few classic vaporwave albums: Vector Graphic's Midnight Love, Phoenix 2772's <earth_地球> and vcr-classique/VHS Jazz's Virtual Metropolis. When you get a chance, pop on one of these albums and look up interior pictures of the Carnival Ecstasy and imagine yourself wandering through the glimmering, vivacious spaces at night as one of the last people to ever see it teeming with life before being run up onto the beach at a scrapyard in Turkey and becoming a dead liminal space awaiting it's demise.
liminal spaces are probably my favorite semi-recent trend in media, there's just something so innately human about the imagery and atmosphere
Liminal Spaces and Vaporwave are the best things we have on this planet
And blow up aliens from south of the border
Well, medicine is pretty good, too.
I Feel like a liminal space myself lol
vaporwave and liminal spaces attract each other but in some ways they are jarringly opposite. i see clashes like this all the time. perhaps this could bring more acknowledge to the nuances of their interactions. nice video pad-
So happy for weekly uploads, thanks : )
And thank you for watching! Trying to get back to more regular weekly uploads.. got another one ready for Friday too. Stay tuned!
What a great video, Pad! I wish we had more dead malls over here in Germany. I would just listen to stuff like this or Hallmark 87s A T R I U M while sitting on a random bench listening to this.
Ayyy whatsup mallbert! Miss you buddy… yes, A T R I U M is amazing. Super underrated!
Incredible video as always, Pad! Thanks for the upload :)
Love when I find a true liminal spaces, I’m attracted to them it’s an awesome experience.
Always such good content here. Thanks for videos like this. And love the tip off to a new band.
This is something I didn't know I needed today. Thanks pad!
There is an artist by the name of "nowt" and they make music that fits liminal spaces very well, they even have a channel called "nobody" with compilations of their music and much more.
Hol up, was Vacant Places actually released before Hologram Plaza or right after? I had no clue the Hantasi album was that old already.
Does "It's a Beautiful Day" count as an early precursor to this genre?
I need to listen to these albums, thanks Pad.
Need to get out of this echo chamber where people think everyone is talking about liminal spaces
Funny thing is that people will play A1 of everywhere at the end of time for multiple videos that have liminal spaces
I downloaded this album after watching the video last night. Recently listened through it at work. From start to finish, I could not comprehend how anyone enjoys this album.
Other similar genre albums such as
Groceries and Palm Mall Mars are fantastic.
I don't know what it is about vacant places but nothing on this album stood out nor did it make me feel anything besides annoyed.
More power to you for enjoying it, but it's not an artist that I'll revisit anytime soon.
Listen to this stuff and walk through the Century 3 Mall today and you would have the ultimate nightmare experience
You should review "The death of pablo" by the pablo collective either as an individual album or on your mysterious bandcamp album series, most likely ur mba series. It pretty trippy
Ooo, another audio liminal space album? Diving into Infinity Frequencies' take was really nice, so don't mind if I do.
The liminal spaces rabbit hole
I was wondering when you where going to cover this
aw, sweet!
been wanting more liminal music
also, if you're wanting more for yourself, look up the artist SpartanDash
Liminal spaces sorta kinda changed my life. They introduced me to a CZcamsr who sorta kinda made a video on The caretaker then I sorta kinda listened to it and it kinda sorta changed my perspective on life.
I sorta feel that my interest in vaporwave (and some of its subgenres) lead me to liminal spaces and the backrooms as well.
That room does actually exist. I've been there. Sort of.
Kagami Smile has an album called Liminal Angel you should try out, Pad
getting lost in bandcamp pls
I can’t believe you’ve failed to explicitly mention the most basic fact about this album: That it’s a compilation. You said it compiles songs from all kinds of places and memories, but it’s also literally compiling songs from a bunch of their other previous albums and EPs from the past decade that are each his unique takes on mallsoft as an overall sound. Like how Northwest Plaza is directly from Vacant Places.
Vacant Places and I share a birthday =D
How about Wakesleep albums for liminal space audio?!
Lemme get some of that hantussy
Hi pad!
Another instant click video lol
thanks for stopping by :) !
@@PadChennington as long as you keep uploading I'll keep watching 👍
